Re: Can you...
Actually my mother tongue would be Punjabi too, I can speak it but I've never read or written it, although it should be easy enough using Urdu alphabets.
Re: Can you...
... speak, read & write your mother tongue and how important is it to you?
Yes allhumdolillah i can speak, read and write urdu and its VERY VERY important for me. I feel incomplete without it.

naa man.....its like the 'green urdu' posted in roman here........:(
Re: Can you...
Speak: Yes.
Read: Yes, but it takes me a bit longer compared to reading English or Dutch.
Write: I'm still learning.
It's very important to me, because I feel it's part of who I am.
Re: Can you...
oh...i didn't know about ur mother tongue NOT being urdu. yeah, it's sad that certain languages with no script and literature are lost. i never heard of ChuGHtai language b4 and it's great to know. i know a few people whose last name is ChuGhtaaii...do they speak ChuGhtaaii language? great to know that you can read/write/speak the great language of Urdu. keep it up
Yes. Chagatai is a Mongoloid language and most people with the last name or Surname Chagatai or Chughti/Chugatee are able to relate back to one particular Mongol clan, the house of Chagatai. Chagatai was also the original language of the Mughals. Mughal merely being the Persian pronounced version of Mongol. Naimans were actually a seperate nation and share more characteristics of the Turkic people most of the Modern Naimans still live on the Afghan Pak border regions. Jochids or Jochidee's are another Mongol Clan and closely related to the Chagatai clan both claim decent from Ghengis Khan. Though the Jochid's are more widespread outside of South East Asia and particulalry in Turkey, Iran and Central Asia... though they are also present in the Himalya regions.
i believe in Pakistan they write Punjabi in urdu script...right? GurmuKhi [the Punjabi script] is mostly NOT used in Pakistan, i guess.
Yes in Pakistan most Punjabi is rendered in Urdu becuase few people use the Gurmuki or Sharmukhi script.
Re: Can you...
Yes, I can speak and read it. I can write some of it too but my handwriting is awful and I have trouble with spellings.
Re: Can you...
Punjabi + Urdu
Speak - Check
Read - Check
Write - Check for both although Punjabi in Shahmukhi script. I've been reading up on Gurkmukhi which I plan on learning)
Important? Hell yeah
Re: Can you...

Re: Can you...
Yes, Yes and Yes and my mother tongue is urdu but the credit goes to my dad and his maula jat. He made sure that all of us siblings should be fluent in our mother tongue despite living in a foreign country. I can proudly say that my urdu is way much better then my english and french
Re: Can you...
yes
i wish i was better at reading, though.
i think it's very important to pass down your language to your children...in today's global world people want to learn all these languages and cultures, i dont get why desis think it's not cool to teach their kids urdu or whatever other languages they may know. it just makes a person more diverse :D
all you have to do is speak it, i dont see how thats so hard :D
Re: Can you...
I can speak it perfectly fine but I can't read nor write it, I wish I could. I think its important, speaking more so than reading/writing

I am talking about ' Some ' - who always try to speak Urdu in an attempt to prove something while we all know the future of Urdu in India :)
Re: Can you...
