can we brush if we are fasting?
U can but only when u keep fast & u can do it in the day time without using toothpast.
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
some say it's ok as long as it is tasteless and odorless. i brush before iftaar and do NOT go back to sleep. if you do then i guess brushing teeth will not VOID ur roza :)
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
If it is ok to use miswak while fasting. It should be ok to brush using a toothpaste as well. Miswak does have taste. What about odor? How can odor void your fast?
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
hair brush???its not eatable ![]()
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
now its clear that you are talkin of which brush
yeah you are right that miswak is more better than brush…about odor i would say that in some hadees i have read that allah really loves it rozadaar k munh se ane wali boo us ki pasandeedah tareen khushboo hai.
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
What?? When I said brush, it meant toothbrush. I hope you don’t apply toothpate to your hair brush.![]()
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
Yes you are right about the hadees but What I asked is totally different. So if you care to read KKF’s post and then mine, you will know what I am talking about.
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
As long as you are not eating or swallowing toothpaste on purpose it is fine.
Eating and drinking is not allowed so if you consider brushing your teeth using toothpaste as eating only then you cannot brush your teeth using toothpaste.
kchugtai is right miswak also has a aftertaste if that is allowed then modern day miswaak i.e toothpaste and brush should be allowed too.

yeah u are absolutely right but miswak is sunnah so miswak is more better than brush(sorry to say but i feel v scary to add my coments here pata nai kis kis ko kon konsi bat buri lag jati hai)
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
the hadith is not about the smell from a dirty mouth. It is the smell that comes from the stomach due to hunger.
Some scholars do allow use of toothpaste during the fast. However, it is advisable to avoid it. Better thing would be to brush the teeth before imsak.

Ew. Gross.
I would say that the hadees is zaeef.
Why can't you be a rozadaar and still have a clean mouth.
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
People. Get over this childish debate from centuries ago.
Don't make Islam so difficult ( and childish ).
Faith cannot be so fragile that it is compromised by something as insignificant as brushing your teeth with toothpaste.
Use your brains and common sense (which is a gift from Allah) rather than slavishly look for answers to every little thing from others.
So either clean your mouth or don't go close to anybody (and gross them out).
If somebody gets close to me and their mouth smells like crap, I am gonna want to slap them, rozedaar or not.
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
You can use the toothbrush along with a regular toothpaste. Just rinse your mouth properly after that.
Re: can we brush if we are fasting
What if that 'somebody' is nearest relative/family member of yours? still you would like to slap him/her?
This debate will never end as long the learners are there and its like revision (Tajdeed). How come you call it childish debate?
If you have any satisfactory answer do share with us or just wait for somebody who answer it :)
I brush my teeth before 'Sehri' and after 'Iftari'. Other then that, I use miswaak which is cheaper then tooth-brush and paste, and no harm using it either you are fasting or not.

how is miswaak different? does it not have any taste? Green miswaak has lot of juices in it and a very noticeable taste.

Here's my more than satisfactory answer:
Unless you are in the habit of eating toothpaste for food and sustenance,
you are fine brushing with it any time of the day you want or when your mouth feels
less than fresh.
I am sure Allah will not send you to burn in hell-fire forever or take away some of your 'brownie' points.
Isn't He supposed to be all forgiving ?
Besides, I think he is more angry at the target-killers of Karachi right now
to worry about which rozedaar is brushing with toothpaste.
[Please note I am using the pronoun 'you' generically here.]

Am I hit the nails on your head? you looks more annoyed. Besides your thoughts my question is still stand there. What you'll do? going to slap your relatives/family member or not?
