debit card for online shopping?
I tried using my card and entered my security code in one of the websites but it did not work 
can we do it? my card says visa electron on it and also some sort of plus logo it has on it..

In most cases yes...but there is a difference between debit and credit cards in the way they are processed. Somthing additional needs to be done to differentiate them.
When charging in a store they ask you most of the time if it is a credit or debit card...hence some sites might not have that capability without you putting in the security code or the site even asking you for it.

In the U.S you can use both, it does not matter!

depends on the online storefront and whether it has transaction processing arrangement for debit cards with its merchant bank. Meanwhile, credit cards still are the most pervasive form of electronic payment for online retailers.

My dad wont let me get a credit card after the whole economy debacle so I have to make do with a debit one. It works fine in shops etc but I wanted to use it online.

Get a VisaDebit facility on your account ... where you use your own money to spend as credit (visa).

Call them and ask if you can have VisaDebit card. They need to authorise/approve your application first and then producing the card ...... whatever long that takes.

I wish I had known this before.. I was just at the mall today and had gone to my bank!

sorry, no idea about this visa electron card. Check on your bank's website what is this for if you don't know already or call them.
btw, VisaDebit and DebitMaster card both lets you use your own money as credit.

ONLY VISA/MASTER debit cards work online.
Bank cards cant be used online.

^ Aisha, although it's a visa card but was probably only activated as a debit card and not a credit card. At activation time, the customer has the option to activate it either/or/both.

yrh i know.. dad only allowed me to get a debit card because of the economy and everything… i recently changed banks and transferred funds from one bank account to a new one in a new bank.. this one works differently so i dont know whats happening with the card etc
