tell me that what is “period” and why girls/ladies does not pray in that time of period ?? can some one pls explain to me .

Insan, re the other part of your question - why dont women pray during their period. During this time, its impossible for a woman to maintain the proper standard of cleanliness required for prayer.

ok so women make babies ok ? and they need their ovum (baby making cells released by their ovaries) to meet with a guy’s sperm ok? and when there is no sperm to meet with these ovum they are just passed out of their bodies. now these certain 5-7 days are part of a menstrual cycle and the few days before and after these days are when a woman is most fertile (why? because that is when ovum is passed out/created…and chances of getting pregnant is highest in the case of intercourse). so basically the ovum is passing out every month.
according to many holy scriptures, a woman is unclean during these days and should not pray.
why is a woman deemed unclean? i have no idea..u should ask the scholars…

and the correct term is menstruation. The word "period" refers to the fact that they take place in a cycle.....per month...

I had always thought that period meant fullstop as in punctuation..no. Why do women get fullstops?

shweetz, the "fertile" time, ie., when a woman can become pregnant, is approximately 14 days from the start of the previous menses only. So its actually during the middle of the cycle that pregnancy can occur. Here;s the cycle....a womans uterus builds up a lining in the uterus in preparation for implantation of a fertilized egg. After appr. 12 days, the lining (should be) sufficient for an egg to implant. Hormones are released which in turn signal the ovaries to release an egg. Egg travels down the fallopian tubes. If egg meets with sperm, the fertilized egg then attempts to implant itself in the lining that has built up during the previous 2 weeks. Viola, pregnancy. If there is no sperm to meet the egg, the egg disintigrates and the lining is shed. Lining consists of mucous and blood, usually takes 5 to 7 days to shed. During the last week of the cycle, the week after the lining is shed, the uterus has a rest, hormones return to normal levels and then the cycle begins again.
the reason for being "unclean" is that there is a constant flow from shedding the uterine lining, its not like you can wash and be all clean...the flow just continues till its done. And it isnt just plain blood, its blood and mucous and hormones....to me, it isnt an unclean thing, its the "nest" for a precious potential baby...but heck I didnt make the rules!
