Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

India’s economy is about 10 times biggerand the annual growth rate is 9% !!
In other words 'every year India’s economy adds the total GNP of Pakistan" .

Once this simple truth dawns on the Pakistan people - it would realise the only option is to make peace with India.

Freeze the issues such as Kashmir, and stop wasting money on Military assets, concentrate on Economy & education.

Unfortunately, we cannot expect Generals to do this. All this would go - the power, the privaliges, prestige, land scams, money etc

So the first step is - get rid of the Military Dictators. Get the civilians in charge
of the country.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

No is the answer. 9 times less population, 9 times less economy. Its a middle weight v heavyweight situation. I have always advocated a peace settlement on Kashmir, which in reality will be in India's favour.

Pakistan can ill afford such a conflict, mostly as it fans the flames of Islamist within the nation and sidelines moderates with an echo of war cries.

Peace, prosperity and realization is what's needed. A secular, Muslim majority state focused on human development.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

alternatively, pak could just polish and shine its nukes every other week so that india doesnt go too big brotherly on it, 9% economic growth or not.

once this truth dawns on the cow-belt indians, they would realize that peace with pakistan is the only real option.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

I think both sides know war in unthinkable. Nuclear weapons are a deterent, and a modern arsenal is all the protection Pakistan needs. They are modernizing that force, rightfully so.

But we neither can nor desire military parity with India. Like I said, a MW v HW situation. Peace.

Either a kashmir under dual administration, or some sort of other special arrangement.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

Pak only needs enough weapons to defend itself... Defending is far simpler then attacking.
And secondly, its Pakistan that is pursueing peace, while its India that dragging its feet.
Perhaps its India that should give up on its Kashmir policy and stop wasting its money military assets and concentrate on your economy and education.
Pakistan should certainly spend more on these two areas, but no one in Pakistan is going to roll over and die while India continues trying to impose itself on the subcontinent.
What reason does India have for expanding its military and spending so much on Arms?

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

What kind of a stupid question is this?

You don't know what's going to happen in the next ten years. Who would had guessed ten years ago that the US would be sitting in Afghanistan while at the same time watching the US military becoming depleted and obsolete in Iraq?

What's going to happen when China/Hindustan realise there isn't enough oil for the 2.4 billion people?

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

Nuclear weapons are proven not to be an effective deterrent, particularly should Pakistan ever become a liberal democracy.

In 1982 Argentinia attacked the United Kingdom without provocation, despite the fact that the UK had enough enough nuclear and thermonuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles to turn every population centre in Argentina into smoking glassland. Sometimes, countries gamble that a nuclear power won't use its weapons because of the consequences.

================================

At any rate, Pakistan gave up on trying to stay equal with India a long time ago. Pakistan's military policy is about maintaining minimum credible deterrence - keeping the minimum amount of military force in service to convince India that at attack on Pakistan would be so difficult as to be a hollow victory at best, in terms of human and material losses to India.

For over 2 decades pakistan has been resigned to inevitable Indian victory using conventional weapons. The point of Pakistan's military is to make sure that this Indian victory would come only at such a high price that no Indian would want to pay it.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

No, pakistan cannot catch up with India militarily or economically.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

Nor is there a need too. India is 9* our pop mate, we have only to ensure that India is detered from aggressive designs. On the economic front, we can match them for per capita income, maybe even pass them, but obviously overall given the massive population difference, India's absolute economy will always be much larger.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

Pakistan should be like israel = A wolf in a sheep's skin.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

We don't need to catch up, Just enough nukes to turn India into a lake just in case India gets confused.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

no it cannot and that should not and will not deter india from building, buying and upgrading conventional arms...after all it is a meagre ~ 2.2 % of GDP which is lower when compared to others...and it should always make sure that it is leading.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

Dont be so confident... If not today then tommorow.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

So why should Pakistan not spend on its own defense? Should we simply accept Indian Hegemony?

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

spend it....when did i say not to spend?..

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

Im just talking about the jist of this thread... The thread is based on the conclusion by some of our friends accross the border that Pakistan shouldnt spend on its defense since it could never cathc up with India..
Im not accusing you... Just speaking in general.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

Pakistan is almost paranoid about getting even with India. This has lead to a disproportionate emphasis on defence spending.

India went 'nuclear' in 1974 - it never flexed it's muscle or make Pak into a lake (as Abdali said). It took another 10 to 15 years for Pak to become nuclear - yet India never threatened it.

Its obvious, that India doe not want to harm Pakistan. So, why let the Generals control Pak.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

^^ instead of Pakistan, India is more paranoid from Pakistan and its Secret Sevices, any thing goes wrong in India is blamed on the Pakistan, which itself speaks that Indians are unable to stop or match the skills and intelligence level of Pakistan.

So thats the reason they are always coming up with such questions and theories.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

when you talking about indian economy you talking about quantity yeah we will never catch up to 1200B and we have no intention to.

Re: Can Pak ever catch up to India Militarily?

Indian obsession with bad Pakis is phenomenal be it their news papers or discussion forums.
