I am horrendous at singing - like awful. I think I am tone deaf?
I love music and listening to it and sometimes sing along quietly to myself.

^^Not much. You can see the audition episodes of Indian Idol for that. There are some horrible singers in there singing with confidence…

Sure. The trick is to do it in the shower. The acoustics make anyone sound good.

haha me too, i can never sing in tune. once my sister and i left the house singing the chorus of an aerosmith song and we heard a guy shout “shut up” two houses down. =/
as for singing and confidence i think it depends on how much importance you give to singing.

Good singing difficult but not really impossible. That needs lots of practice and dedication which a lot of people do not.

You have to be born with the singing gene, you either have it or you don’t.

Pakistani comedians can sing opera as good as any old singer can

Agree with posters above. Either you have it or you don’t. However, if you have a reasonably good voice then you maybe able to learn.

yeah…so you either have a reasonably good voice or you don’t…you can’t learn that.
you can learn the academics…how to read music, how to train your vocal chords, how to hit the notes but if you weren’t born with the voice, I can’t imagine that you can succeed.

One can learn singing but the best age to learn it is when you are very young. At very young age, like a kid can learn several languages, he can learn singing too…
Learning it now, depends how many Jaraseem you have of singing When there is a will, there is a way… of course you can learn if you are really keen to.. provided by a good teacher and .. beautiful voice (your base/tone) makes your singing more beautiful.
In my case, I never learnt it, I was born with it.

Nah Muzna, like films, voice tones have genres too 
There are different types of songs and its kind of tricky to manage all with the same tone and being versatile.. A full-base female voice can sing songs like Beedi Jalai le lol and Dekh Lay… and many more… there is a huge difference between Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal… Shreya has proved her in chikni chameli while I dont think Sunidhi has jumped really good in Shriya’s Maidaan !!

On the topic, I believe most things are achievable with a lot of practice, and a genuine desire to learn.
