Re: Can ANYONE learn to sing well?

The meaning of singing has changed with time.

Anything which can be said regardless how it is said with background music is singing now.

Re: Can ANYONE learn to sing well?

Yes.

First thing which is needed for singing I think is ability to recognize the beat or rhythm. Then the notes…then the scale.

A lot of amateur singers sound bad when they try to sing with music and lose track of beat/rhythm. Its all in the head. Some catch it quick some take time to learn.

A long time ago I wrote a post where I said (something like that) music is just a mathematical alteration and repetition of the sound waves.

Composition:
1- And there are songs which anyone can sing (provided they know the language) and there are songs so difficult that very few can sing. (Easy/simple to difficult compositions).

Think about National Anthems. A lot of people can sing.

Specific ability:
2- There are songs which can only be sung by certain singers which depends on intrinsic/innate/specific qualities a person has.

Approval:
3- Lastly, the audience may not approve any singer based on what they already have listened to from the original singer, no matter how good other singer performs.
Their ears are used to and ‘tuned’ to listening the original singer over the period of time.

Even famous and expert singers cannot sing a song better than other expert singer just because they do not have either the suitable voice or ability to change the notes and scales like original singer did.

Mehdi Hasan would not be able to sing like Adnan Sami Khan for at least first two reasons cited above and Lata would not be able to sing like Naheed Akhtar, Tina Sani or Reshma.

Lata songs can be sung by a lot of singers however, just because her songs compositions were not very difficult and even Sajjad Ali sang her songs nicely despite (being a male singer) when he started his career.

M. A. Shehki could not sing “Jaane Bahaaran Rashke Chaman” song like Saleem Raza did, being a great singer and had a great performance.

There are very good artists or copy singers who can sing different kind of songs from different singers.

Anyone who wants to sing should choose (as much as possible) suitable song for his/her voice and abilities, unless it is for fun…go ahead and have fun then. Make a noise.

Re: Can ANYONE learn to sing well?

confidence is good but you forcing me to listen to you is off-putting sorry.

diwana really interesting response!

Re: Can ANYONE learn to sing well?

Neither forced nor I was particularly addressing you… I said “u log” as I found some of them here who generally listen to my posts… and as I just uploaded after a long time… I mentioned them here…

Its totally up to you dear… “one wouldn’t hear” will not make a difference to me :khumar:

Re: Can ANYONE learn to sing well?

well said!!

Re: Can ANYONE learn to sing well?

Listening :biggthumb:

Re: Can ANYONE learn to sing well?

Well there are quite a few singers making millions with not so good voices..Nicki Minaj comes to mind. Would I call her a successful singer? No, but other might.
Also my last response was incomplete, what I meant to say is if you have a reasonably good voice, you may be able learn how to sing and become a good singer.

Re: Can ANYONE learn to sing well?

I know sis…work, study and family and not giving me much time to record anything…I will be there soon in sha Allah…
