The nearest equivalent is a Khalif. But we haven't had one since 1924 - no Muslim ruler has been willing to claim that title ever since.

Actually, in 1924 the Sherif of Mecca claimed to be Khalif. In response, the Saud family declared war on him, attacked the Hijaz and annexed it to create Saudi Arabia. That was the end of Khilafat....
