You've got to be promoted through the ranks up to Cardinal level and then go through a voting system whereby your peers will vote for who the best man for the job is.

Any muslim with secret agenda's on becoming the Pope will be weeded out or die in the process.

I believe that we dont have one as such and the next best thing we have (was told) its the Mufti who live in a little room in a tower in Alexandria.

However Im sure other people on this forum will be able to provide have more information backed up with real evidence.

rvikz - I think I brought this up briefly in another forum that maybe a Muslim equivilent of a Pope was needed, but was slammed for daring to mention it. Apparently, according to the poster, it was against the teachings of Islaam for some reason. Maybe they were wrong, they certainly didn't provide proof.

in theory its against the teachings because one man is equal to another, but the Mufti is considered to be a scholor of the highest degree who is consulted in matters of theology.

Places like saudi have there own versians and I believe it the top priest of the Mosque in Mecca.

The nearest equivalent is a Khalif. But we haven't had one since 1924 - no Muslim ruler has been willing to claim that title ever since.

Actually, in 1924 the Sherif of Mecca claimed to be Khalif. In response, the Saud family declared war on him, attacked the Hijaz and annexed it to create Saudi Arabia. That was the end of Khilafat....

Because I believe that some of the concepts are valid and should be adopted by more people. It is the way they have been articulated that needs a thorough revision. I will have kick ass editorial staff..no doubt about that, missy!!

I think that's what confused Lajawab, Isuppose if a Muslim were to become Cathloic Christian and train to be a bishop they too would be eligible to becoming pope.

I don't think they'll let you become the pope whilst you're still Muslim just like we wouldn't have a Kaafir Caliph or Imam.

Cathlics wont even let us pray in the same building as them let alone lead them, Spanish Muslims wanted to be allowed to pray in the Mosque of Cordobora (Masjid-e-Qurtaba) but the Vatican said no as it it is being used as a Cathedral.

Ranjhan - I guess it depends on the location. I know here in RI, in MA, and in PA other religions have used our churches for prayer, it is allowed. As a rule, we don't refuse anyone who wishes to pray.

How did the Vatican get control of a Mosque? Was it a scedule conflict of a shared sanctuary? I'm interested, do you have a link or source, please (preferably in English)? I tried running searches and coming up empty handed.
