Can a Muslim apply for Papal office?
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
Pope Lajawab I,
Kher hai, sir ji?
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
Me being the spiritual advisor of a billion faithful’s image of uprightness and character? I’ll pass…![]()
But just curious…
Alhumdulillah…And you?
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
He can certainly try :D
Realistically, prerequisite for Papacy is being Catholic
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
And what does that entail the kind of beliefs one must have? And what eliminates a Muslim from applying for Papal office…I read in the paper (NY Times) that they think the successor might be a Jew…
So, apart from Judaism, Islam is the only religion that believes in the fact that Hazrat Eesa :as: was divinely inspired…So why not us being given a try…We just don’t believe in a couple of things like trinity, holy Father and Son…
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
Related question is that technically any catholic can be elected as pope, but how will a non-cardinal impose himself in the conclave?
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
It is not an elected office open to the general public, strictly an election between a group of men who are the only ones eligible to become the Pope
But hey, research it, maybe you'll find a loophole in the Papal tradition that hasn't been closed yet in all the years there has been a Pope.
Good luck :)

Is there a good lawyer on Gupshup?

Who can be a Pope?](http://www.jimmyakin.org/2005/04/who_can_be_pope.html)
Odds of a billion to one. Hmm… wanna play?
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
Assalama 'alaykum brother Lajawab
You should be aware that there is heavy price to pay to be a Pope. And it’s celibacy. I don’t think any Muslim has the ‘guts’ to pay this price.
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
My question is: Why would a Muslim want to be Pope? Aside from the very obvious power and control issues.
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
I have another question: why would anyone choose a life of celibacy?
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
brother Ibn Sadique…
An evil practice indeed as was witnessed behind the nunneries in the Cordobas in the form of living abortions…The very church that enforced the laws of celibacy and infanticide, was mired in its own vices…Not to mention the recent child molestation scandals…Sad…
No…The call of the flesh is strong indeed…I as well as any Muslim male on Gupshup knows…It’s all in how you control it…![]()
Let us hope…For many who are still single or awaiting marriage that Allah :swt: finds them a mate a.s.a.p…It is not only a privilege to be married in Islam, it is your right…
Sara: You tell me…
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
Ohioguy for Ayatollah!
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
To give us rights…Everyone screams and shours about the rights Islam took from them and there, but when we demand our rights, people talk openly about squashing them…Ann Coulter, Falwell, Robertson, openly say things like our rights should be revoked…
They took away the rights of marriage…Look where it took them…
If after all, we believe in the Divinical inspiration of Jesus just as Christianity, shoudn’t we allowed a place in the Christian church too?
Heck…The Jews don’t even believe in Jesus as being a Divinely inspired being, yet one of them can be a Pope?
Why not us?
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
No. Islam doesn’t make exceptions. There are no gray areas about our beliefs. You either believe in Allah :swt: as the sole and only God and Mohammed :saw: as His Last Messenger you are not even a Muslim, let alone an Ayatullah.
Come up with something else…![]()
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
Precisely…
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
Who says only Muslim males "suffer" the "call of the flesH" as you put it? Last time I checked, women had sexual desires, dn't they?
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
A Pope must be Catholic. A Catholic believes salvation is through Jesus Christ. No grey areas there. So a Muslim cannot be Catholic, let alone their leader.
Re: Can a Muslim be Pope?
Errr… Jews think Hazrat Eesa (pbuh) was just a regular guy of no religious significance.
Christians killed Jews for thousands of years over that issue. Anyway, where did it say that a jew can be pope?
Everywhere else that I read states that eligibility to be the pope was limited only to any member of the catholic church, whether a priest or not. Non-catholics are not eligible.
While one of the leading candidates to be Pope was born a Jew, he renoucned that religion and became a catholic when he was 14.
Actually, here’s in interesting unrelated issue. If Jews are a race, as they claim, what race would Catholic who converted from Judaism be? A Catholic jew? ![]()
