Camping - what do the gals think?

…I’m curious. Personally, its so much fun for me, with the 3 littles who have such a good time. They get so tired out that they sleep early and even if they wake, they can’t get out of the tent and there’s nothing for them to get hurt on in there. So Mama and VZ can get lots of extra rest, we all get lots of fresh air and nature, swim in streams (“ribbers” as my number 2 says), look for bugs and frogs, have bbqs, just relax and enjoy nature and family.

But it seem like abcds and desis look down upon gals going camping. True or not? would you enjoy?

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

yea camping is only for honkies..if u wanna blend in the desi culture as a married woman..ur better off calling up all your fellow aunties and gossip about whos getting married, so and so bride/grrom is so ugly, so and so is getting divorce..u get the idea..

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

^ generalizing u dodo.

mo3: depends on family to family, and on how conservative they are. if u r going for camping with family.. its not a big deal most of the time.

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

I don't see anything wrong with it, and would love to go for it if such an opportunity arises. Sounds verrry adventerous, especially for a nature-lover like me.

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

i love camping, its fabulous

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

why generalise lovely mother.

My sister went camping with friends  horror of horrors, last weekend. I was meant to go this week however plans didnt work out.

Ans: there are more desis than americans can shake a stick at, just as can not generalise about you as a race of people - you cant about attitudes therein either.

GS sould have inferred as much.

Enjoy your camping and get a tan for me. Woe is I for I cannot tan - only burn.

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

There is nothing wrong with going camping, if your going to jump on the bandwagon of doing what's right in the eyes of the aunties you might as well stop breathing. Everything under the sun is looked down upon unless "they" hold knights of round table style vote.

My family and I go camping and we have met other desi families who do as well, it's always a much needed break from daily life.

Go for it!

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

Hey if a girls comfortable goin camping, why not… I personally wouldn’t because i’m a spoiled princess… I like the idea of shunning cell phones, tv, computer etc, to spend time with family n hubby… thas kewl, but I need running water and toilet paper and I dont want to wake up to fnd bugs in diff places :yukh:

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

I know of quite a few desi families who go camping atleast a couple of times a year :)

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

Camping takes on a different mean in cold drizzling britain.....

I can think of few things worse than spending a weekend in a cold wet field surrounded by cows and trying to make yourself comfortable in your sleeping bag whilst tossing and turning and manipulating your body so you dont feel the knobbly bumpy field through the sleeping bag.

I think Id wake up a very Grumpy Daisy

And If I had children with me..... hmmn...well

Grumpy Daisy would very be very likely to dispense slaps far too readily to noisy excited children!

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

how could such a fantastic activity be looked down upon, and something you do it as a group just to have a good time. it also varies from place to place, for instance, folks living in florida may have their own set of activities than the ones in vancouver, due to the difference in terrain...but here i know lots of desi families who love outdoors..

enjoy your trip..

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

Still not convinced

give me a luxury child free hotel any day!

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

I went camping two months back, slept in a sleeping bag, washed up in the river, had a bath with the kangaroos and went to toilet with koalas watching me.

It was quite fun.

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

you are hanging out with the wrong crowd.. :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

campings fun. just watch for big bugs. also read the book "how to sh(i)t in woods". very informative especially the ladies.

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

Oh… Mr K, I have my nails to think about!

anyway if somebody dumped me in the middle of nowhere with a tent I’d cry…somebody mentioned bugs you know.:frowning:

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

I am not sure why people would have problems with camping of others. That's strange. I love travelling and i wouldn't mind staying in a camp. Right now, i can't go camping because my son is only about 5 weeks old so i'll have to stay in an RV. To me, camping is also a cheaper way of accommodation..so why not do camping if one is travelling..this way you can save money for the fun activities or sightseeing.

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

No matter what your age is, camping is the ultimate solution to get away from the busy city life. Although one may think that it involves a lot of hassle with the preparations and making sure that everything is packed. Last long weekend when we went for the may 24 weekend we had massive amounts of bugs and flies, even through such "wonderful" experience, we had all enjoyed the time.

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

I went camping with my family last weekend for two days. Day one was perfect, cycling, walk and then I was in the lake for 3 hours and I loved it.
sunday morning was also beautiful and i couldn’t wait to go back in the lake and so i did and then with in about 30 mins something bit me so hard on my arm that i was bleeding everyone ran out of the lake at that point and then no one went back for swimming. I don’t think my family is ever going back to that particular camping spot it was scary.
But I still love camping, swimming, and fishes and whatever bit me that day.:)

Re: Camping - what do the gals think?

I use to go camping all the time with the lads when I was 16 but not anymore, it's fun but going camping with another bloke when ur an adult/18 is like kind of gay, and none of the girls I know would be allowed to go camping (or probably dont want to), maybe when I've got kids, a son who'd go camping with me.
