asalamu alaikum
i do calligraphy but my these Quranic scripts are on sketch book. i’ve done my all this work with Qalam and normal black ink that is used for qalam.
but now i want to draw all these on large scale to organize an exhibition.
what should i do?
should i use other colours (not black)?if yes than can u tell me which type of medium should i use (poster, oil etc,)
if i use oil paint than i cant use qalam, so what should i do?
or any idea to do better calligraphy on big sheet or canvas.???
I would say go for Oil. I can do calligraphy with Qalam before but tried my first calligraphy in oil recently. I posted it in Image as well as Video gallery yesterday.
I would recommend oil because oil is smooth and you can blend it/move it any way you want.
Also when you use oil, you can blend different colors. This way, you will not end up using one color such as black.

can u guide me what u do first when u do it with colours?
coz with qalam u just have to write only. but with brush nd to use different colours u have to make an outline and then fill it..isnt it?
I first did the borders on the side. To make sure the border is straight, you might wanna use sticky contact paper where the border ends and background starts. I let this dry before I went on to the next step (usually 1-2 days)
Then once the border was dry, I did the background. Before doing this, I covered the boder (which I did previously) so that paint doesn’t cover the border. Background should be dry within 1-2 days.
*]By now, the background and border is dry and the final step would be to do the main calligraphy.
USE ink......classic touch....well for oil....it takes time (n layering gonna destroy the piece)
i know ink (print making) is damn xpensive....but if u really wana work wid paint....use Acrylic....it dries quickly n will b lasting same as oil (paintingz like mona lisa compeleted in 16-20 yrz)
acrylic RULEZ :D (posterz hmmm...:D wont give dat edge to ur work :D) i m looking fwd to ur work :D

but i think to choose soft colors like in ur paintings are very difficult.
how u make selection of ur colr combination?
did u make it on canvas or board?

I always paint on canvas. You can experiment. Trying new things never hurt. The only painting I did on board (thin wooden board) was my very first painting which was in Acrylic (never used Acrylic after that). Took nearly one year, that's why I am not a big fan of Acrylics.

i never ever used acrylics......why its not suitable. which brand in oil and acrylics is best?
Yaar making different colors is not too hard once you get the hang of it. Once you start painting, you can make colors lighter or darker depending on your mood. Like for instance, lets say you wanna make chocolate brown, mix green and crimson. If you think its too dark, add a little white to it, if you think its too ‘browish’…add other color to it such as orange/yellow etc etc…just experiment and see. You’ll learn it good that way
I just choose colors as I start doing the painting. If I don’t like something, I just wipe it off and do it again (which won’t be possible in Acrylic since Acrylic dries within 5 minutes and you end up loading the palette with colors over and over).
ya it sukz on Masonite …well acrylic works well wid canvas too. in fact dat we normally gonna see
(even ifs u have good base of gesso on Masonite it may give u soft touch) but ya give good base of good gesso…zaberdast n classy work.
well oil has its on sophistication. but ppl like me (free hander) prefer Acrylic. btw HHL lub it man wat u have done. (m i free to critique it in terms of its composition :D)
i also do Islamic art pieces…but they are not conventional calligraphy…i try to revoke some stance in it
