We’re thinking of buying a farmhouse in England probably in Oxfordshire, but we have no real experience with growing crops, vegitables, maintaining an orchard, looking after the sheep or goats, cows or poultry.
Yeah so basically i don’t know the abc’s of farming. I have no idea about the amount of workers we required on a farm and how much profit there is in farm buisness etc. May be some of you guys can help us by recommending books, talking about your own experiences etc.
The land will be no more than 15 acres, main buisness will be apple trees and selling goats milk.
it can be REALLY tricky hareem if you dun have the experience, labour itself will cost you a fortune (unless you hire some eastern European labour read bulgarian) I would suggest to visit the area and meet some local farmers, spend few days with them to get a grip of farmer's life. No matter what matterial you find online about farming, it can't be a replacement for real life experiences.
I agree with Xeno , and once you have done that share your experiences here . It is my dream to own a ranch somewhere distant in USA and live happily ever after , a simple life.

my hubby just found out that there are Some institutes in our area offer agri and hauti cultural courses and have libraries.....
but i really liked your suggestion of spending few days on a farm.....there are few farms nearby who offer holiday package kinda thing......so yeah i'm gonna try that.
mirch
it can take us probably a whole year before coming to final conclusion as i mentioned we haven't got much or enough knowledge about farming and stuff....and then we have to study all the regulations of keeping live stock healthy etc.
Darkight
it's not that expensive actually if you compare to 2 bed flat in a town that can cost 2 to 3 million pounds....farmhouses prices start from half a million pounds.....
We're planning to save enough money so we don't have to take a loan out....
they have space but there's very few muslims who own farms, not because they don't have money but may be because it's hard work and we have become too lazy.
i'll probably ask my brother-in-law to help us out as he's a zameendar but everything here is different from pakistan....and he'll have to study the atmosphere and soil conditions etc.

Hareem - there was a book about a wall street couple that left their jobs and bought a farm in Wyoming or Montana. They do eveything from growing crops. As their bread and butter - they run a bed and breakfast and give people tours of the acers of farm land in summer and winter. they also homeschool their children.
a lot of labour and hard work. They have to get up at the crack of dawn EVERY DAY to make sure all chores get completed.
I'll find the book and documentary on their life and send it to you. I forgot their name.
This is my DREAM. I would SO love to have a farm! I know its very hard work and you work from dawn to dusk and you dont make much money....but WHAT a life you will have!
I dont have much advice but I so wish you the very best and I am SO very envious!! When I win "lotto", I'll be right behind you!
