well what are going to be the repecursions for the rest of the world?
i think the neo cons will be back to what they have been doing in last term. not that i belive things would have been much different if kerry would have been power
the world is going to be more dangerous than ever. there will be more surprises , more deadly weapons will be used by the so called “terrorist”
and the ultimate losers will be the american people because the harm this regime has done and will do will be very very difficult and take years to undo perhaps it will ultimately lead to america not being a super power. which will be sad.
There were voices of concern over the handling of war from Kerry's Lobby but the funny thing is, that man didnt make a strong point in any of his speeches about how he'd tackle the war if he comes into power. Kerry didnt play his cards right when he spoke about supporting Israel a number of times in his speeches .He used strong words against the saudis and afgans and also passed a lot of disturbing comments against Pakistan for that matter. Imagine what would happen if he comes into power with the ongoing war , neither him or bush would risk taking an early retreat but there would have been serious consequences for the saudi government and Pakistan ( which is now hailed by the democrats as the next big troubling thing after iraq and afganistan) if democrats get elected. Iran , prolly would be on Bush agenda but a strike against a state possesing nuke is simply out of the question. Syria is also out of teh question as a war waged against an arab country with no oil reseves wont compensate the cost. Bush is prolly gonna deploy more troops in aghanistan and OBL I surmise would be caught pretty soon which would statisfy the troubling US public
Harm what Harm. Come on the world cant take a joke we only invaded two countries, and support many corrupt regimes thats all, whats wrong with invading countries and killing innocent women and childern, blowing up infrastructures and then having Halliburton re-build it at a low interest rate that will bleed the new US installed regimes (elected with fair elections) for years to come ![]()
It will be more of the same. Elections will be held in Iraq but the insurgents will not accept the results. The Iraqi PM will ask the US to hand around until the "security" situation is under control. So what is happening now will continue for a while to come...
Actaully some resolutions now seem a little more possible. If you were Lil Kim in North Korea, would you forge an agreement with Bush if you thought that you could get a better deal from Kerry? Not likely. NK, Iran, and Israel/Palestine are actually more likely to reach a settlement now.
And make no mistake. This is as close to a mandate as bush could have wished for... Gain one seat in the senate, a couple in the House, win by 3 million in the popular vote, every gay marriage effort overturned, Daschle voted out, probably better that any Republican pundit could have wished for. The popular vote is an important one, as any hangover from the Gore vote is now gone. A record turnout too.
Drilling in Anwar, Social Security reform, reformation of the CIA, and I would wager that there will be a big shakeup in the cabinet too. Rumsfeld gone, Powell gone, most of the Pentagon cabal gone over the next few months. Bush will spend the next four years grooming his 2008 candidate. There will be a very conservative agenda, patriot act renewed, tax cuts extended, and lots of conservative judges.
Brace yourselves lefties! :)
Is MyVoice sober yet?
just as they achieved nothing with their majority the last four years.. they will do the same now..four more years of smoke and mirror issues of gay marriages, abortions, fetuses and what not. while jobless claim rise, poverty increases and more young and men and women die in needless wars..
they say the religious fundos are the most dangerous for any country.. we saw that proven yesterday when the nation’s ‘born again christians’ voted on ‘morality’..
yep.. four more years.. ![]()
It's depressing to me as I see it:
Bush has no incentive to even pretend to care about moderates or the deficit. We're going to have more tax cuts for the wealthy, more secrecy, and less willingness to appear before a questioning media. Freedom of Information Act? Science-based decision making? Keep on eroding.
The Dems are in for misery for a long, long time. It's not just that they lost the Presidential race, it's that more states are red than ever, and I really don't see anything that's going to change that trend. If they couldn't beat an incompetent speaker like Bush after wasting him in the debates, how on earth do they hope to beat the next candidate who is likely to be smarter and more well spoken?
I'm loathing the idea of traveling to Europe again in the spring. Before, I could say that Bush was not the popularly elected President, and that Americans would eventually hold him accountable. Now, I guess I'll shrug and nod a lot.
This is a really important thread. Lets see who has the deepth to judge the situation well.
OG,
Please do explain what exactly do you think will happen in NK and Iran. Also how do you think Iraq will turn out in the next four years?
Secondly, lets come to some domestic issues .. how will be the economy? Health Care cost? Enviroment? etc.
The only abstract claims you made were about Powell & Rumsfeld. Lets see how far they come out to be true. I am with ya for Powell but Rumsy is a tough cookie. I wouldn't mind keeping both if we can get rid of Ashcroft & Cheny.
myvoice is prolly in Ohio trying to score some ... well nevermind
Same goes for the others here ... rather than saying it is good or bad, tell us some solid predictions. Will the deficit go down? Or go up at the end of Bush's second term?
Powell is expected to retire, or Bush will replace him. I have a feeling Bush might choose Tommy Franks for this job.
Didnt Rumsfeld get a nod of approval from Bush lately. Why would he be dropped.
I would certainly like to see Ashcroft, above all. go.
And Cheney too.
PS: Halliburton stocks just went up a few notches. Saw on TV.
Seldom does a cabinet remain intact. Rumsfeld is old, and he is a lightning rod. He will go in Feb. Powell will step down with fatigue, he is not a political animal, and I doubt that he will run in 2008. He will go on the speaking tour and make some retirement money. Feith, Wolfowitz and others will slowly be moved out of the Pentagon.
Rudy Guilliani will have a place, and might make a good replacement for Powell, or Ashcroft. Guilliani might be a special attache to the Middle East. Bush needs a high profile effort on this, and Tommy Franks might be in line for this also.... Tommy could kick Ariels ass, and is very well travelled in the region.
NK will go back to the bargaining table quickly. They had a horrible crop season and do not have enough food or fuel oil for winter. There willl be many rapid meetings of the 6. An agreemnt for fully dismantling will be in place by March, when the food supplies typically run out....
US will let the EU take the lead on Iran, but the US will become the stick to the EUs carrot. Only the US can help Iran avoid the humilliation of an Israeli attack. At a minimum an Israeli attack could set back the Iranian effort 3 to 5 years, even without getting everything.
The economy is fine, and will accelerate after the election. Businesses delayed hiring until after the election. There will not be a big domestic agenda, but energy policy will be front and center. this will be the big push in the next few months. Lots of drilling, some alternative energies, and maybe some tax credits for buying hybrid cars.
Can't say I feel sorry for the Americans, because you voted him in.
I am flabbergasted that 'dumbo' actually got the win.
What does that say about Americans? Stupid, gullible or scared!
Take your pick.
Re: Bush wins Now What?
now nothin... everything stays the same! if kerry had won, things would have changed!
KERRY CONCEDES. Congratulations to Mr Bush
Good Morning every one AT GUPSHUP. JOHN KERRY HAS CONCEDED 5 MINUTES AGO AND PHONED MR BUSH TO CONGRATULATE HIM.
Mr. Bush will be our president for next 4 years. CONGRATULATIONS. He deserved to win because of his strong leadership skills and a determined stand against terrorists. We can differ with his tactics but the fact of the matter is that there has been no attack on USA soil for last 3 years. G. W. Bush has won by 3 million votes, a record win. Something, which even Bill Clinton, was not able to achieve. People should understand that this election was a referendum about the leadership skills and American people have overwhelming selected Mr. Bush to be their leader. It is a clear message to all those who thought Mr. Bush is not popular. Muslims should not be viewing G W Bush as a enemy to Islam. There is absolutely no solid reason to believe that John Kerry would have acted in favor of Muslims. In fact, chances were that he would have acted more strongly against Iran, Pakistan and Middle East. Having said that, I really admire John Kerry for accepting his defeat so graciously.
Good news for Pakistan also. We Pakistanis cannot analyze a USA presidential election without considering its possible effects on our beloved motherland. Pakistan is also in the middle of a very important war against terrorists on its own soil. Remember Pakistan is fighting one of the most important wars of its history. For a long time, these terrorists have kidnapped our country for their own petty purposes. They dare to attack our president, prime minister and other prominent personalities. They kill anyone who has a slightest difference in opinion with them. For long enough, our cities are besieged by these animals who have no shame in bombing our mosques and public places. We Pakistanis always welcome these animals with open hearts and open arms on the name of Islam but it is time for us to act with open eyes also. G. W. Bush has no personal sympathy to Pakistan but luckily; his agenda is helping Pakistan to get rid of these cancers from our society. If nothing else, we should bear with Bush for that particular reason.
Having said that, a long dark night is going to start for democrats. There is no way they can win in 2008 with John McCain running for republicans. Democratic party needs to have a long hard look at its agenda. If they cannot beat G W Bush who was supposedly messed up in Iraq so badly with so many jobs lost at home, how could they expect to beat John McCain who is much more articulated than Mr. Bush.
Yeah rite! ![]()
I really don't think things will stay the same, hate to say this, but there is nothing left to restrain him since he can't run again. A second term is usually where the personal agendas are pushed.
I'd say look for more laws with a fundamental christian base. More laws with personal freedoms pushed aside "for the greater good". And no tolerance for differences in culture and religion.
The 2008 election will be decided on how the country is in 4 years, if its good shape then the repub's should have no problem winning if its not the Dems should have no problems winning, McCain or no McCain (who would be 4 years older than he is today).
Bush has record deficits looking at him, a failure in Iraq to contend with, a free Bin Laden on the loose, and a divided nation. Good luck.
Just read that........
Oh well, here we go.
I wonder if we can get the war debt up to $500 billion (on top of our current deficit, of course) so my generation and my children can pay for it for the rest of our lives! Hell yeah, that sounds awesome.
I bet the world hates us even more today.
PD, good intro.
I have to think that some of the old saws will be true. In the first term a president runs for reelection, in the second he runs for histroy. That bodes well for efforts in the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. It also bodes well for India, a growing economic ally.
People around the world should take note that every cricicism of Bush was on the table. People knew what they were getting, and they voted in record numbers. Despite what you hear from the press, there is indeed what Nixon would have called the "silent majority". They got up and spoke.
The Democrats need to realize that shifting from Howard Dean to Kerry was not a shift from the left to the center. They keep nominating liberals that are out of step with huge portions of the country. Look at the map. Kerry won the northern cities, and the Pacific Coast. Look at the map of any state and you will find huge expanses of areas that went for Bush. With media coverage so focused on a few high profile cities, they miss the vast areas of America that consittute the suburbs and rural areas. Edwards did not even carry his own state! He was useless! Democrats need a long look in the mirror, and reask the electabilty question over and over....
(er PT, new banner dude?)
