Burying the Placenta

Is this practised these days?

Re: Burying the Placenta

None that i know of

Re: Burying the Placenta

Never even heard of it, but SIL was telling me about her birth and how she wasn't able to bury her placenta, and I'm like huh? She said it was a Sunnah (or somethign like that).

Re: Burying the Placenta

I know that a lot of Hindus burry it as well. Same goes for goray

Re: Burying the Placenta

Yep - still practiced. My sisters did it for all of their children.

Re: Burying the Placenta

What's the significance behind it? I have no idea what happened to my placenta!

Re: Burying the Placenta

She mentioned that it was similar to one burying their own hair and nails.

I don't even do that, but one of my mumanis does and is very particular about it.

Re: Burying the Placenta

^ burying hair and nails?? i've never heard of that! whats the significance of that?

Re: Burying the Placenta

Something about how one might be able to access to the hair and nails and may perform some sort of witchcraft on that person.

Shaykh "Google' didn't give a proper answer. I will ask my Shaykh about this as well.

Re: Burying the Placenta

^ I am not sure if I heard this right or wrong but apparently since they are the part of your body, you shoud respect tthat just like your dead body will be burried.

I had never heard of placenta but I guess it will be the same reasoning as it's a part of your child.

again, I am not sure or I dont know how authentic this explanation or practice is but I have definitely heard of burying nail and hair!

and then there is a sunnah way to nail cutting..that I learned from my husband and thats how we cut our lil one's nail now. :D

Re: Burying the Placenta

I’ve heard that you are supposed to bury anything that is/was a part of your body for a number of reasons.

Some of them being:

  • that we shall be risen as we are buried (can you imagine rising with all your nail clippings and lost hair re-attached?? :cb:)
  • so that nobody can get a hold of these items in order to practice black magic on you
  • so that any bacteria arising from these parts cannot harm you

Note: these are unsubstantiated claims…please research before following.

Re: Burying the Placenta

human body or it's parts belong to Allah so it must be returned to Him. it's done, in Islam, thru burial. as far as placenta or any discarded human parts thru surgery is concerned, if the local laws allow, it should be buried...just to dispose it off. the burial site must NOT be marked...IMO!

what is the sunnah way? I’m assuming that biting my nails is not :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Burying the Placenta

Afshi.. before I try to explain that.. I found a picture of it..

Re: Burying the Placenta

Interesting. Thanks for sharing :)

Re: Burying the Placenta

So, every time you have a wound and subsequently a scab, you should bury it? It WAS part of your body. How do we feel about dandruff, should it also be buried? Should your blood be buried every time you bleed? How about snot? Can we please make a crow bar separation between religious edicts and cultural practices? Kthanks.

Re: Burying the Placenta

oh god,

the placenta and other such things are not part of body per se, they are made to be TAKEN OUT at one time, its not in forever, like an arm and a leg,,,

what do we do with other hair then, like facial hair or other partsof body where you have hair, and once removed are you meant to keep/bury/treasure/kiss it....NO.

some things are only with us for eg when we are pregnant, and then they are gone. thats it.

Re: Burying the Placenta

burying it doesn’t sound as bad as:

Eating your Placenta to prevent PPD…

Eating Your Own Placenta

Re: Burying the Placenta

Bury shmury! I plan to use it as face cream....and hair conditioner if there's enough left over.

Re: Burying the Placenta

This is first time i am hearing about it. Maybe it was meant for burying a child with placenta if one miscarried?
