@giggles: You still have time to decide hun but i am really tensed about the make-up thingy !! seriously i have no idea where to go ?!? I have been to sabs and shamain they showed me thr portfolio's i liked the makeup but you know the pictures they show us are after edititng by the photographers ... shamain said she is charging PKR 25000 for makeup only and if thee wedding is on sunday she will charge PKR 35000 lol thats crazy though ...
^maybe you could try going at a time when they'll be getting a bride ready? That way you'll see the unedited true picture! :)
Fortunately, when I went to both sabs and aliya tipu, I saw a bride who was completely ready and was just about to leave. It really helped me make my decision about them....

hey greysanatomyfan, what did you think of aliya tipu's makeup??? so far i love it but what ive seen are pics never seen a bride in person....
i'm 95% sure of going with her for my valima makeup so help would be appreciated!
i think shamains makeup is too 'light' i want the BANG smokey eyes :)
The make-up was OK. Not spectacular. I think it also had a lot to do with the colors that particular bride was wearing, which was a weird shade of purple with green I think.
Generally though, I find Aliya Tipu's make-up a little loud. But I've also heard that she is open to suggestions, and will fix your make-up if you're not happy with it. Also, they have some really cool facilities available, like a locker for your jewellery, permission to bring along more than one companion, and of course chai waghaira. :) I decided not to go to her only because I'm not used to putting on too much make-up, and I felt that she wasn't the right person for me.

sweetie, you spent 10 lakhs on an outfit...surely 25 or 35 thousand shouldn't make a difference. I'd rather have a cheap outfit and nice makeup than the other way around, cause bad makeup will ruin a look no matter how beautiful the jora. Mubashir charges 30000 whether it's for a weekday or weekend I believe. I dont know how many brides shamain takes, cause it's not just her doing the makeup right? Mubashir takes maximum 4 in a day, so I didn't see any other brides during my appt.
Shamain is def better than sabs, but if you don't like bina khan, I can't imagine you would like shamain.
you should also look into tariq amin, i was going to get him for my wedding but he was in lahore during those days and i didnt want to go for his assistant but ive heard his assistant is just as good as he is.
^ that is the oldest and lamest argument on GS.
The thing is kairosphoto, everyone's financial situation is different. Some people have money to blow and weddings are perfect opportunity to do so. Secondly, many people who use designers for their wedding also use designer wear on other special occasions. So for them, it's a standard that they choose to live up to. You really think that someone who carries a Berkin will go to Kehkashan for a bridal? (I'm not putting down anyone who got their Bridal from kehkashan, I got my own from Tariq Road).
It doesn't matter what your budget is or what you can or cannot afford, your wedding day is a very special day. So to say that 'you'll just wear it once' is irrelevant because you also plan on getting married once.
p.s. people tend to get good use out of Bunto joras because they usually are farshis with long shirts. So most likely, it won't be worn once.

I agree with you about it being one day, but I guess what I meant was if you're spending that much on a jora, then why whine about paying a MUA not even 5% of what you spent on the outfit? youre right about Bunto joras being more re-useable, but lets be real here...once at your wedding, lets say you have two siblings so once at each of their weddings and a devar and a nand so another 2 times....lets give the benefit of the doubt and say you even wear it 10 times, you're still paying a lakh everytime you wear that jora. I'm not saying you shouldn't spend what you want on your clothes, but my point is that if I was spending 10 lakhs on just the clothes ALONE, I would at least make sure I had a MUA that was equally exclusive as Bunto and jewelery that was 3 times the price of my jora.
I just find it odd when people defend how much they spent on the jora by saying "its only one day" etc etc, but then they dont carry out that logic to other areas of a shaadi and instead will say "i dont get spending a lot on the stage, it gets thrown out at the end of the night" or "why spend on makeup, you wash it off anyways." If you're on the "its only one day" side of the camp, then apply it to everything.
Okay, good heavens people! Let's move on from the dress budget, very cringe-worthy if you ask me. Plus, maybe she saved up the money or put aside that to live out her dream to wear a Bunto. Sheesh.
Exactly agree with the previous post. I know one family in Houston who got a jora from Bunto but could not afford a wedding photographer charging only 2.5 grand for 3 day coverage!!!!
Instead decided to go with a cheapo one stop shop that does mediocre work for rock bottom price. Just being penny wise and pound foolish in my point of view.
errr, prices of joras are mentioned, asked for, and talked about on GS ALL the time, its not that big of a deal. khair...moving on!
QUESTION:
do you guys think she'd make a valima outfit (i.e. it's going to be not so heavy) for 2 lakh?
well, she might but she wouldnt "call" it a valima jora and she'd tell you it won't look like a valima jora, thats my best guess since she starts at 3 lakhs and thats what i've seen comparable designers say. Dr. Haroon starts at 2 lakhs I believe, maybe you should visit both and compare what you would be able to get in that price, because I think it might not be in Bunto's best interest business wise to make what she would probably call a formal wearable as a valima jora.
have you already chosen your bridal jora? if its traditional, then maybe you shouldn't go with bunto for valima and instead, opt for a Sana Safinaz...I think you could get an SS jora for 2 lakh and it would give you a more modern look on the valima and you could do traditional on the shaadi.

thanks fasaadi!
my wedding outfit is done, it's from dr haroon and i'm really happy with him!
my mother-in-law wants my valima outfit to be traditional as well (though I don't!) I saw Sana Safinaz and their outfits were valima-perfect at 180,000! but my m-i-l didn't like them so I'm trying to give her traitional options!
should I get my valima one from Dr Haroon too? I'm worried it'll look too similar to my wedding dress :(
aww yay! im so happy for you! he's absolutely the best mashaAllah, I'm so so glad I went with him and you will be too. I couldnt praise his customer service enough!
Well I remember seeing joras in the Dr. Haroon thread that had silver kaam and those definitely have a different look than the ones with more traditional looking kaam...if she really wants a traditional looking jora, why not try that? At least ask Dr. Haroon to show you something with silver kaam so you can see for yourself....and do it in a non bridal shade like sea green or something. I dont think they'll look similar at all, especially if you work with him to make them look different. I had two joras made from him, and he even made sure that the beads/edging on both dupattas had a totally different look. Now THATS attention to detail. I bet if you tell him you want something with a completely different look, he'll have even more suggestions. I never asked if he does saris, but a sari with silver kaam sort of like the picture that was recently posted in the bridal pics thread would look really different than the traditional farshi gharara with gold kaam.
Where else have you looked for more modern looking valima joras? Try Nida Azwer, Ive seen pretty joras from her. The only thing is if your jora is in Dr. Haroon's hands, you feel totally safe, and I havent worked with other designers so I dont know.

I don't understand that mentality either! I think you should NEVER scrimp on the wedding dress, the makeup, jewellery, photographer or the stage. I'm going to go all out when it comes to that. I'll probably do my budgeting in terms of the flowers (more local and less imported), the food (even though my parents are disagreeing on this one!), I'm wearing an old pair of heels (whose going to see them anyway?), and I'm going to try and get a bargain on the invitation cards. Therefore the only way I was able to afford to fulfill my Bunto dream after all :)!
QUESTION:
do you guys think she'd make a valima outfit (i.e. it's going to be not so heavy) for 2 lakh?
The thing about Bunto khala is that she's flexible. The cost of your dress will go up or down depending on the fabric used, the amount of swarovski crystals applied on it, the heaviness of the kaam, etc. However, she won't use certain fabrics or certain kaam if she doesn't think the overall effect will look good, because obviously her business runs purely by word-of-mouth and so it came across to me that it's REALLY important for her to be satisfied by her final product. When I discussed my possible valima jora with her, she told me that since valima dresses are usually A-line shirts or coats, the fall is better in french net and cotten net(which is comparitively much cheaper because it is manufactured locally) is too stiff for those type of outfits. Plus usually people ask for silver kaam in their valima, and Bunto khala refuses to use anything but Swarovski in her outfits. Just the french net itself costs 80,000 rupees, and I'm sure the crystals cost a lot too, I had a suit made by another designer with a little bit of swarovski work on the neckline and she charged me rs. 6000 just for that! But there's no harm in having a consultation, you might just come up with something that suits you AND your budget hopefully :)!
