^ i do agree with you ... and its the same case with every designer...
but what a CRACK JOB who asks for a same joda! when ur employing a brilliant designer (e.g. sana safinaz) then get something new or creative... but again to each their own...
apart from that i have never been a bunto fan, i dont like super traditional work ... and up close hers and taufiqs is just work done ON TOP of the jamavar design innate to the fabric, which is ok occasionally but not all the way through... (ANOTHER DEBATE may be? heheh)
^ see, i didnt like taufiq hassan's work and i haven't seen much of it up close so i can't comment on it- but i've seen a lot of bunto's work up close and it looks like its patterend fabric, but its actually very finely done kaam instead. which would also explain the price tag and her reputation for beautiful, bareek kaam.
and yes, i think its nuts that you would have the budget to hire a couturier and then simply ask her to recreate something else. ridiculous!
well...I dont know but lets say her starting price is 3 lakhs...my guess is that even if you have the budget to get a Bunto, its probably STILL not enough to get something really different and exclusive. I had the same impression with SS...their starting price was something like 2.2 lakhs and it was the same old typical striped piping along the edges, the criss cross pattern of beading along the dupatta. I imagine if I dropped 5-6 lakhs on a Bunto or SS, maybe I would see some of these really different pieces but being able to afford a Bunto or SS doesnt necessarily mean you'll get a one of a kind piece....and it goes that way with both Bunto and SS...most of the stuff is their typical signature work!
Sabeen, btw, since you're more familiar with their stuff, do you know if SS would ever produce something in gold work? I have a feeling that you like them for their contemporary style and I've seen Bunto (who's obviously known for her traditional work) produce things with diamontes and a modern flair in addition to her more traditional stuff, but I've never seen a SS jora with gold work and I would die to see that!
I don't think Bunto even uses Jamavar for her shirt or dupatta, she does them in cotton net or french net. It's only her farshis that are in Jamavar and that too so it gives a rich look, any other fabric will look so limp and weird from the weight of the kaam, and will have no fall at all.

3 lakhs is for her lightest jora, to get something heavy and exclusive, you can expect to pay 4 lakhs and above. But you can still ask her to make something different than her usual bridals, and she will do it. She will come up with new kaam, patterns and color combos if you ask her to do so. But I don't think many brides do that, they like something she has made before and ask her to replicate that.
As for SS, I have only liked maybe one bridal by them so far. A friend of mine wore SS on her wedding day and while the cuts were beautiful, the kaam upclose was so not appealing, and those criss cross pipings just looked so bad.
^ umm this is maroon and mehndi green... i don rem where exactly, but i found it like this, head cut.
@ fasaadi...
SS have done the most innovative gorgeous bridal this time...
for 3 days all the new bridals (ONLY the new not the old ones) came to the lahore studio, this happened for the first time since the designers were in india for an exhibition... so heres my re-colention....
A Joda which was mainly on net, may be the finishings were jamavar ... it was all an almost cream offwhite and the work on it was a gorgeous dull gold, the whole joda gave off a very elegant look. it had an undershirt with work - and the undershirt was on shamooz silk i think and then it was all net, the dupp and the jacket (fully worked) This was one gorgeous joda :) i wanted to order this for my bhbahi on walima but we alreayd had a cream SS for the bari...
A gorgeous pink bridal ... this is like ababy pink, with all gold and silver work, sort of the ganga jamni effect, my elder bhabhi ordered the shirt with pain pants and dupp. this one is stunning!
a very innovative bridal i saw was on a dummy, the material was very different, it was made in two versions long and short shirt... it had lots of 'pathar' or stone type material and gave a very contemporary effect.... loved it!
4.A gorgeoues maroon bridal... fully worked ofcourse.. with an embroidered border running along the shirt... the pants were a metallic fabric but this metallic was pewter... pewter is like a silverish grey GORGEOUS!
what i ordered for my bhabhi... peacock colors but all very deep lush shades, almost jewel tones... it has blue, red, purple, green u name it! but it looks GORGEOUS! the work on it is again silver and pewter... and it has single resham work done on it...
Alll of the above bridal DONT have a simple cut, they are either with undershirts OR a HUGE flair going around at the back... the one that cant be explained without a pic :S but absolutely innovative and gorgeous...
pics are not allowed warna i wouldv taken loads!
Again its not that i dont respect bunto for her efforts, and as you guys are saying i have iin real seen a bunto brial made in peach and pink which had my jaw dropped, costing near 6 lakhs.... stunning tha! but u know when she does silver it becomes looking like sana safinaz :) funny na? but i asked tht girl this is SS and she said no bunto but looks like ss....
^
Is it just me, or is the shirt far too long on that outfit? It doesn't seem properly balanced because the shirt's hemline is just 6 inches above the floor...all you can see beneath it is a little bit of the paincha...the main body of the gharara is completely covered!
I think it would have looked much better with a knee length shirt.
man :( i'm so disappointed with Bunto lately...it could just be the brides I've seen, but everything I've seen by her in the past 6 months has been underwhelming to say the least.
someone needs to go and ask her to make something ORIGINAL and not a copy! now who's going to volunteer and sacrifice their $$$ for a worthy cause like that? ;)
i will volunteer! but as u said before its not her fault! if brides go saying they want this from something they saw she will have to cater towards that!
