I watched 2 games of this twenty20 cricket and have to say it is ******** cricket. Call me purist or old but this form of cricket is not something I can digest. As some1 correctly said , It is Chaddi cricket.
Looks lik ODI was not good enough to destroy bowlers that we invented Twenty20.I am not sure why some people have bowlers in their team. They might as well have 11 batsmen and make sure out of those 11 they have 5 guys who can throw ball to batsman’s end. Or they can do something like Home Run Derby of Baseball. Or they may rent a machine to bowl.
What happened to building inning.. Bowlers testing batsmen’s patience…strategy…
Frankly this twenty20 is very one dimensional and boring…
Its good for cricket. Its fun. I don't think people have time to watch test matches anymore. Even myself...Im so busy with work that I cannot watch 8-10 hours of circket everyday for 5 days straight. No doubt...that is the real cricket..but you gotta move on with time.
20/20 is awesome. The game finishes in 3 hours...and I was able to watch the complete match right before going to work...and I was in such a good mood after Pakistan won.
A complete bowler and batsman can play according to any situation. This is also a good format to give exposure to some of the younger players and newer teams..as they wont get routed in 2 days of a test match.
I wudnt like to watch 20/20 all the time...but sometimes is awesome. Watching test cricket all the time would just make cricket so boring. ODI's, 20/20 bring more entertainment to the game.
Twenty20 World Cup is like an Oscar for B-Grade Movies.
It is quite possible that Govinda/David Dhawan could sweep such an Oscar.
Seriously though, how can one respect a format in which blind sloggers are more prized than the Dravids/Kallises/Pontings/Tendus and Mohd Yousufs of the world. And like F&B said, there is absolutely no place for bowlers.
F&B, just enjoy the mindless slogging for a week or so. In all honesty, I won't be too thrilled even if Pakistan wins this cup (that will only further solidify the tullay baaz nature of our team really). I'm a wickets guy, not a fours-and-sixes guy.

Exactly....
My only worry is that this fast food cricket shouldnot kill real cricket.
Twenty20 unfortunately is being further encouraged by this new league that BCCI just announced.
I have nothing against making the game shorter, but this format simply does not credit technical correctness in batting and also disregards the bowling aspect of the game.
If the 20-overs game is to be the future of Cricket, ICC should look to make radical changes to the rules to rein in the tullaybaazs and provide for some ammunition to the bowlers.
One rule I would suggest (from Baseball) - if the batsman hits the ball, he must run. This rule alone would impact the batsman-friendly nature of Twenty20.

Other rules...
If you didnot take run on 3 consecutive ball then you are out.
Bat should be cylindrical.
Ooops...now it sounds like Baseball. But I get your point. ;)
Like it or not, Twenty20 is the future of cricket and rightly so.
By the way, even I agree that sometimes slogging gets monotonous and doesn't seem as exciting. To limit that, maybe ICC should look into lighter bats or something of that sort, so that batsmen have to time the shot perfectly in order to hit a six, rather than just creeping down the pitch and using sheer force to hit the ball out of the boundary.
Now if you look at the Pakistan VS India game, it wasn't as bad. Bowlers had a say in the proceedings; I like that. Too many patta wickets across the world is killing cricket.

Agreed. Mad rush to do anything to enable bastmen to hit 4 & sixes on every ball is killing cricket and twenty20 is based on same concepts. Bowler friendly wicket will be very friendly. If in today's game , wicket was not great. It was the rain and evening conditions of Durban which was helpful for bowlers.
I think a Thirty30 format would have made things more interesting. The batting team would have had to strategize more astutely and each bowler would get a decent 6 overs to prove their worth.
Twenty20 is a tad too short.
