^kaun, i'd say you're in the minority too (in my experience), my husband is along with you. he is one of 5 brother's. only he and one brother were/are prepared to do this. the other 3 are total mummy's boys. even my dad fought for my mum but a most of my cousins would give into the emotional blackmail or not even go there.
as you said, some were successful. what about the others? they gave in to their parents most likely.
well some gave in, and some made big enough mistakes where they lost who they were fighting for ;) and thus parents got wat they wanted to some extent.
