Is any true broadband available in Pakistan?
I am just reading from blogs/forums and people are always complaining about the lack of affordable decent speed net connections.
Is there anything at 2mb or faster available there?
How much?

Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
For homeusers, a 256Kbps connection costs abt Rs 2,000/mo.
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
And a MB connection
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
broadband is available in pakistan, but it isn't better than dialup, speed wise. and it is around, like 2000-5000 Rs.
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
so you cant get a decent net connection and want to take on India and others in the IT market?
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
2 MB is the fastest connection that you can have as a retail user here in the UAE. And since all broadband connections in Pakistan are routed through the UAE, I doubt that they'll be offering that maximum speed in Pakistan as well.
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
It's all about the will. Here in the UK BB was priceey and not to fast at around 512mb max. Two years ago Tony decided to make it up the agenda. Opening up of markets. BB was around £25 for 512kb and now I pay £17 for 10mb. As a result of cheapish BB more home owners browse, and e-commere grown rapidly. All related to the quality, availabilaty and speed of internet connection. If Pakistan wants a chance of making it big in the e-world needs to get it's IT infastructure sorted out. When I was their I got faster access through GSM than a telephone line.
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
17 for 10mb connection?! Cool! I pay around 50$cdn for a 6mb connection.
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
Hong kong has around 100Mb for $10. Thats a very high population so such a setup makes economic sesne. People in Sweden also get very fast cheap access as do the dutch, Japs and South Koreans. Put us all to shame. Like comparing Bullet Trains to a old diesel electric.
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
hey risc, whos your broadband provider? 17 for 10mb sounds pretty cool. Is there a download limit?
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
Must be I'd imagine.
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
ntl, no limits
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
I'm paying $50/mo and 1.5mbs It's kind of a lot but but there is a monopoly in this area of Los Angeles.
I wish they had broadband in Pakistan, i would save a ton of money with VOIP calling my relatives.
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
Broadband , aka dsl, is technically available in most major cities of Pakistan, but the only affordable rate is Rs. 999 for 256kbps connection with upload/download together limit of 1.5 gb! Businesses usually pay a ton more for unlimited usage and even higher for better speed! As far as in MB's is concerned, I think the major ISP's for regular dial-up users use a 2 mb max!!!
I live in islamabad and use dsl though, keep it on all the time, make calls w/skype and have my cordless phone usb'd to my computer as well, download a few mp3's once in a while, chat, surf etc, I usually run into 3gb a month trying to be careful! No fun when i find files I want that are like over 10 mb I have to think twice before clicking download, it sucks bad. Pakistan has to learn you cant tax every single thing in the country =(
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?

thats like 50mins of downloading for me. Sometimes I just see a load of might come useful stuff on newsgroups and add them to a download queue. According to my router done 27gb in the last 3 days.
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
(
It's Bloody Expensive.
In India for $11 Per month u get Broadband 256 KBPS with free download of 1 GB
& for $45 Per month u get Broadband 256 KBPS with unlimited upload & download datatransfer
the lowest broadband tariff is USD $5.55 per month THATS CHEAP
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
with broadband being so expensive how are all of these very cheap call comapnies (VOIP) operating? same goes for call centres
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
Well, your going to have to limit your downloading seriously and stick to occasional surfing, or use dial up to download. There are some outfits offering unlimited downloading, called multinet i believe, in islamabad, its not advertised but for Rs. 1500 a month 256 unlimited, limited time offer and maybe they will change it to 2 gb after that anyway.
The call centers just pay for an unlimited connection, simple as that.
Re: Broadband in Pakistan?
dude PK needs a major verhausl of IP infastructure. I presume it will come as plenty of money to be made. Probabaly be a wireless form of technology considering how bad copper lines and switching is.
