I just wanted to start this thread as a British Punjabi myself, just to find out if there are other ones out there.
We never seem to have our own little “turf” thing, like if you go to Bradford you know there’ll be loads of kasmiris and mirpuris but we all seem to be spread around, even in some weird places like Northern areas of Scotland and Shetland!
Just wanted to know how you guys feel about living in the UK and being Pakistani Punjabi? I’ve noticed that if you say you’re Pakistani Punjabi people think you’re mirpuri or potwari till you actually speak Punjabi, which is kinda annoying.
do you guys think Pakistani Punjabis are under represented here, everyone seems to know what a mirpuri or pathan but if your punjabi people automatically think sikh turbans and bangra?
I'm not British but there are plenty of Pakistani Punjabis where my british cousins live (wolves). But I get what you're saying, when you tell people you're punjabi they automatically assume you're sikh.
Oh yeah wolves, it has a lot of Punjabis in general Indian and Sikh, but it's still quite mixed. I think maybe because Pakistani Punjabis put so much effort into forging the Pakistani identity and speaking Urdu etc, we kind of forgot about our original identity (Punjabi).

actually its different with my cousins, they only speak punjabi and english, never spoke Urdu in their lives since their parents only talk with them in punjabi.
This dialect, is what happens if you cross a mommy boy's Punjabi with kala man rap music you get a Punjchav.
Hahaha I feel half my brain has just wasted away typing all that out. I've spent time in South London and worked with a few musicians so I'm pretty familiar with the it. Its South London ghetto dialect pretty much.
It’s so bad it’s funny, I have a northern accent, so any London accent cracks me up specially how some apne mundaay go round speaking these days, it’s like another language…:snooty:
Haha yeah I was a regular of some of the 'ends' (Neighbourhoods) in those episodes. I know the kid through another mate, mutual friends and all.
Aye, they try too hard to assimilate. But I mean these days its pretty much part of the South London culture. I mean they pick it up when they go to school so I wouldn't really call them try-hard anymore. Its jus urban culture now.
EDIT: Everyone needs to check it out, its hilarious!
