Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

Ok, so just voicing the request that I wanna make my joras myself had mum scandalized and dad was heart broken cuz he really wanted to chose the sherwani :stuck_out_tongue: then when I said I didn’t want red, mum had sleepless nights and headaches and dizzy spells!!! so I was under a LOT of stress to a) pick out a bridal that’s budget friendly b)make sure its bridal-ish even though it isn’t red c) That its heavy because all my extended family turn up in their bridal ghararas
Now I wanted a bunto and an umar syed but have you seen the prices??? I could get 5 girls married off in that amount! so I was stuck…forget karma…tariq road was too expensive!! then of all the people, dad had a suggestion…Ismail Khalil in saddar (guess where???MEHBOOB CLOTH MARKET!!!)…I died 10 different deaths and mourned the shattering of my dreams and went around in black with a lit candle singing sad songs (I was such an idiot!!!)
This guy is incredible!!! he told me to do my homework and get him a print out of anything and everything that struck my fancy. I saw over 2000 pics (thank you GS!!!) and took pics of my the neckline I liked, swatches of the colors I liked and I described a lot of stuff to him verbally and he got everything I said and he got me. Plus he was super patient and not only did he give me 4 HOURS one-on-one time but he managed to soothe mum’s fears, support my decisions and nudge me towards something more bridal-esque (yet me)…and he even managed to keep dad entertained! I love, love,LOVE my dresses (I’ll have them in a month at most) and they cost me just under a lac (for 2 dresses!!! in this day and age is amazing).
I wanted a theme of like innocence and purity on my wedding and my dress is this deep pink with lots of matte gold and antique embellishments and the work consists of delicate flowers of varying sizes. The valima I wanted to be bold but rich and elegant and he’s gotten this beautiful deep aquamarine with a deep violet…he revised everything verbally with me and then drew every little detail.
Right now, what matters most to me is peace of mind. Just relxing and focusing on the life ahead and today I feel like a huge burden’s been lifted off my shoulders
Pray the clothes turn out as beautiful as I imagine!!!

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

All these secret back alley places in karachi are truly amazing.

We went to Banaras in orangi town and got full excellent quality banarasi suits for 1000 rps and in zamzamma they were selling for 5000 rps or more, I always go to the kaam walas etc in these back alley places they work hard and make an honest living and dont have attitude problems!

Although they are a bit dingy and scary so best to take daddy/uncle along :)

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

yeh u can easily make two dresses in one lac..........i will do the same

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

i LOVE banaras colony too!!! Its all ruined now and everyone's moved to Paposh but there are some people who bring truck fulls of clothes to your place if you ask them too and you can order in the comfort of your own home. Plus there used to be this saeed ghani in jama cloth, they had this great end of the year sale and banarsi sarees went for like Rs. 500!!

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

in Which year u went to banaras .. ? n u bought 3 piece banarsi suits ?

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

@queen..
can u give the contact num of Ismail Khalil ??? ... My mom also suggests me to go there but i m too lazy coz its too far from my place ... Did u visit Tariq road as well ? Were the prices too High ?

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

I k ow ppl that come from clifton and defense to paposh to get their clothes made... Same stuff would cost them 4 times the price if they were to do their shopping in the upper end areas.... My family too gets a lot of stuff made from there....and the quality u get witout the attitude is worth it!

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

ok, this is the Variety bridal and saree centre. its shop number 70-71, mehboob cloth market. numbers are
02135214641
0322 2678425
0314 2397326
I explored the whole of tariq road, all the bridal joras were red and most of them with green.the really simple ones started at 35,000 and the ones that were slightly different started at 65,000...but all red (bleukh)....and then i saw a man at mehboob cloth sell the same thing for 16,000!!!! they all have the same karigars, its all about location that makes price difference.

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

True..

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

I SOOOOOOOO WISH we had something that cheap in lahore too :(

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

there must be something,u may need to check in some cheap areas...

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

I totally have no idea :( and i dont have much of relative in lahore too only a mamu and his wife...im so lost how am i gonna do the shoppen :(

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

hey i called the guy and asked him if we send him designs can he replicate he send to lahore he said yes....the only negative point is that you have to totally rely on him*:(.....you can also take chance by buying one dress from him so that you get idea about his work.....

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

^ I'd suggest you get the price quoted first, i once sent three pics to Karachi through a friend to replicate, they said they can replicate but they can;t give the price since they have to make them first and then see how much they cost, the friend told me the guy is her aunt's tailor and they have all their formals made by him and is the best person.

Well, honestly, i didn;t like the result, the measurements weren;t followed, colors didn;t match, fabric wasn;t good, and they charged me too much, it still hurts me to think of it .... ahhh:(

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

opppsssss u scared me*:smack:

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

don;t get scared just be careful and i suggest you get it done from the place you can go and check the kaam from time to time.

All those three dresses i had made we never worn nor are going to be worn, they look ugly, seriously :(

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)

get something light made first, see how much they follow, because what u tell him will be narrated to the karigar so its sort of like a game of chinese whisper....and also it will be good 2 give him a photo r a reference like i told him i wnted straight lines like on a bunto jora and he got it immediately, or a karma motif....
btw,I went today to approve my colors and I made him revise my dress all over again.he's learnt it like a nursery rhyme by now behehehe

Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)
