Re: Bride on a Budget: My experience with Ismail Khalil (nicest man EVER!)
hey i called the guy and asked him if we send him designs can he replicate he send to lahore he said yes....the only negative point is that you have to totally rely on him*:(.....you can also take chance by buying one dress from him so that you get idea about his work.....
Wow i never thought about this...that sounds good but like other ppl have said its bit risky, it would be best if we can mail him the pictures and stuff and fix the price first..

no,he only deals with ghararas and shararas and he's not exacly a designer or a shop keeper, an adviser and a co-ordinator is more like it. for kaam walay suit,he sent me across the road to his uncle's shop and i got some really nice things from there. there's this thing called a necklace-wala-gala...its made entirely of diamontes and some dabka, its so shimmery and fluid, you'll fall in love with it.

excellent thread queen!!! omg I was dying when I started reading your original post. hahaha. But I am so so happy for you and my dua is that your dresses turn out even BETTER than how you imagined them to be iA :) You have described a wonderful experience and hopefully it will become even better once you receive your dresses (which will be soon!)
Your story reminds me of how i got my mayoun gharara. I found a picture (here on gs!) of a simple but elegant gharara that I liked. I thought it would be perfect for a home mayoun event. I emailed the pic to my cousin so that she could buy it for me. She ended up finding it at a boutique in Liberty ...Libas-E-Khas and they were asking for 35,000 for that SIMPLE gharara! She was mortified and came home and told my khalaa how much it costs. My khalaa called me and asked me if it would be ok if they simply replicated it... i told them sure ... i didnt care. At this point it was getting closer to my wedding..my other khalaa was going to pakistan and I really wanted her to bring back all of my shopping. So my khalaa bought the material and had it made in ShamNagor... using the local tailor and kaam walaa that she has been using for decades. ShamNagor is definitely NOT a nice part of lahore... everything is dingy and dirty and the men stare at you as if they are ready to jump on you...madd creepy. But you know what? That gharara was replicated perfectly and in total only cost my khalaa 2,000 rupees ONLY ... total. Can you believe that?! It was a simple thing and that is how much I thought it would cost to begin with! Anyways.. so glad that I trusted my khalaa and had it made. Everyone really loved it and it was exactly how i wanted it...
These hole in the wall places..... definitely take a dude with when you go...but you can get excellent work and kaam from them! Especially if you buy the cloth yourself to begin with... so going in you know the color and material is legit.
