I’m taking down notes, so I can stay organized throughout this whole journey and not feel so lost It sort of sucks having no sisters, relatives, or friends who’ve gotten married lol so there’s no trial and error i can avoid… You guys have been great! I’m loving this thread
I went by Lebaas of India in Mississauga just to check it out, and frankly speaking I didn’t find a single item that had a classy finish (Bridal or non-bridal), I don’t know why but the bridal sets/ lehenga’s they had on display looked very cheaply made with the kaam (threadwork, and sitaare’s or low-class kundan work) resembled something someone would wear once and dispose of (the fabric was light/flimsy). I felt so dissapointed bc i had heard so much about them, and now I’m scared I might not find my dream dress
You'll find it nadz just keep looking :) I'll continue to send any mua referrals I come across.
I was in the same boat at you mausam, I'm the only daughter amongst 2 boys and the first in my extended family to get married outside of Pakistan. This has been a learning experience but friends/coworkers have been a great help in narrowing down options. The internet, online blogs and gupshup has also been a blessing! Lol Try going to the designers mentioned earlier and hopefully you'll be able to find your dream bridal as well! :)

LOL, I’m also in the same boat!! That’s why it so confusing!
So I checked out most of the designers mentioned here over the weekend (Man, I have bruises from trying on all those heavy kaam wale lehangas!) So I found something I really liked at Dream Couture, at least the colours and work, not the cut so much. However, the lady there is really pushy and not easy to work with. She said it was this Pakistani designer and the original price was $6000, but on sale it is down to $3000! Of course, I’m sure it’s not really 6K. And I looked up this dress online and it looks a little different and has more work on the skirt part and dupatta. I’m wondering if what she’s selling is a copy?!
I don’t want to pay $3000 – it’s out my budget. Even if she brings it down, I’m not sure if it’s the real thing. And if I get it copied, I’m worried that it won’t look the same! What do you guys think?
P.S: apparently Frontier Hertiage has good sarees in case anyone is looking.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are selling a copy. I feel like dream couture gives themselves more credit than they deserve and hike up prices way too high. My mom and I were able to negotiate 3 outfits that we were told would cost us $750 on sale to $550 they were definitely not worth the price we were quoted (strings coming out, stones falling off etc.). See if they're willing to negotiate and see if getting a package deal with other outfits might impact the price. One thing that I have liked at dream couture however is their custom outfits that they've made either as copies of original designer outfits or based upon changes to outfits they possess. If you have an outfit that you really like and have a picture of I'd try to see if they can make you a copy or see if you can customize the outfit you liked to make it fit within your price range. I wasn't too happy with their customer service but it's up to if you like the outfit enough to work with them. Good luck! Frontier heritage has gorgeous saris! They can get pricey though.
I would be very, very weary of working with Dream Couture. There are enough horror stories. The proprietor is pushy and if you end up with any concerns you will quickly be put in your place.
If you are okay with a replica and only worried about having it look and feel the same (often the fabric and quality of work is what makes a replica look like a replica) then consider sending a pic to prototype (guppy designer) and see what she can do with it.....

Thanks for the advice guys! Agreed. Even if she has some really nice designs, I don’t know if it’s worth the money. Also, I think if you don’t know a whole lot about Pakistani fashion and the latest trends, she can easily rip you off. If the threadwork and stones come off that easily – we can see the quality there!
I don’t think I could work with someone like her…it would be too stressful!
Munza, apologies for my ignorance. But not sure what you are referring to by “consider sending a pic to prototype (guppy designer) and see what she can do with it.....” can you let me know.

Prototype is a designer on gupshup. I have seen positive reviews of both protoype and catwalk by different people on here. I haven't ordered anything from them personally though. You can get in touch with prototype and see if that helps :)
Ahh thanks! Hadn’t heard of them before. Will check them out. Was thinking of seeing if Shabi’s can make something similar for me too.
Sounds good :) I remember them having nice stuff. Make sure that you see examples of replicas that they've done so that you know that the work is not of poor quality. Also keep in mind that store based designers may be more expensive than home based just because they need to take rental and store maintenance costs into account when setting prices.
That is a good suggestion. Thanks! I should ask them for examples of replicas. That is true. That’s why I was debating between Shabis and the Oakville aunty..guess I can ask them both for a quote.

Asking around is a good idea, you can try Alia K too and see what they say. I saw some recent outfits that they posted that were really nice. Good luck with your search amd decisions! :)

Yup, Alia K does have some nice stuff and seems easier to work with. I’m going to ask around…I figured I have some time before I need to place the order since the wedding is in May. Thanks J
I would recommend getting the order in by December so that you have time in case there's a delay in getting the bridal ready in time. When I went to dream couture last they said they need 6-8 months for a custom order.

Thanks! That’s true. I was thinking of deciding and placing the order by mid-december at the latest. It would be nicely just order and get it out of the way. My dad was saying I could order from the designer itself in pakistan (Maria B), the price is turning out to be almost the same. But I’m just worried what if the measurements go off. What do you think? Did you require any alterations when you got your bridal wear? Do you know anyone who would do alterations for lehengas in Toronto?
Btw who did you for Décor? We’re thinking of Nigis Décor or Khazaana. I couldn’t find any reviews for Nigis, but they seemed good.
I think that if you order from the actual designer and measure yourself correctly you'll be fine. The aunty I ordered from ships the outfits in a bit loose and does the final fitting close to the wedding in case of any weight gain or loss. She got the minor alterations done here but I'm not sure which tailor she used. It is a very risky thing to alter something as heavy as a bridal so I would be very wary unless you had very good reviews from someone.
We went with the Perfect Setting for our decor. The decorator Naphisha is difficult to get ahold of at times but her vision and ideas are absolutely amazing. I'm not familiar with khazana but NigI's Decor is actually owned by my fiancés cousin-in-laws mom lol Her decor looks good too and the prices are decent from what I've heard. During my research phase I also really liked Diya Decor. They were very professional and broke everything down for you. I have heard good stuff about lemon truffle designs and sublime event decor.

That's a good thing the aunty does, coz minor alterations might be required. I sent you a private message because I needed some advice on the dress. Let me know what you think!
I heard good things about Perfect Setting, and that she was hard to reach. So i didn't even try her LOL. Sublime Decor looks really good too. I've messaged them too now. I absolutely loved Lemon Truffle - her designs are really elegant. But our events are smaller and we don't meet her minimums - so can't really go with her. We did meet her and she is very professional. So would highly recommend her.
I'm going to Toronto area this weekend, and am looking for some semi-formal and formal outifts but at reasonable prices. What is the best place to go. Will also be checking out bridals to get an idea for the future.iA
Haha I just read the entire thread and am only now realizing that this is a really old thread.... @majeemjum, I really want to see your wedding outfit now! :)
