Bridal showers!

Okay Ladies, I know there is already some thread on this but I thought this one could be a little different. Did you have a bridal shower? Do you think it’s a waste or like the idea? What would you wear as the bride? (Something casual, dressy?) Also I’ve noticed that no one I know in Pakistan has a bridal shower (or do they?), hopefully they can see how it goes and maybe plans one for themselves

Can we share ideas about bridal shower themes, favors, games, color schemes and PICTURES!! I plan to have one soon and my theme is “Paris Fashion Night”.
Will come back and share some pictures soon of that and the ones I have kept for ideas.

Re: Bridal showers!

Tea-party Bridal shower. I would love this!!

Re: Bridal showers!

Ohh!! These are soooo much fun... we've done various ones for friends over the years...

1 ) The Tea Party : A classic... we went all out, dressed up like southern belles, big hats, pearl necklaces, fine china for tea, finger sandwiches, etc. decor was outdoor garden style. Party Favors- Personalized tea bags

2 ) *** Barbi*e Louboutin**** Party : We had a friend who was obsessed with barbie and christian louboutin heels (of course)... so the theme was, everyone had to come dolled up in something pink and black, highest heels they owned. Decor was all black with pink accents and of course barbie dolls, whose shoes soles we painted the classic louboutin red. Party Favors- MAC barbie makeup

3 ) Luau Party : One friend was getting married in the spring in North Carolina and wanted a Luau theme bridal shower... So we rented a tent, put it up on the beach, lanterns, roast, leis, limbo, hula dancers, pina coladas, galore... Party Favors- Fresh Lei Garlands

4 ) 50s Theme : Everyone came decked out grease style, this was a co-ed shower. For one of our non-desi couples. So, we had girls in poodle-hoop skirts with beehive hair dos, and guys with slicked back hair, high water black pants and white socks... Jukebox instead of a DJ.. The Bar was setup to make 50s style ice cream shakes and sodas for the evening... Party Favor- a cd with couples picture as the cover and a mix of 50s music and their favorite songs

5 ) Hollywood Papparazi : This was glamour all the way. Everyone came decked out as though going to the Oscars or golden globes. A red carpet was rolled out to welcome guests as the strolled up to the front door. A couple of the husbands stood around the red carpet with cameras acting as "papparazzi" snapping pictures, asking questions while videotaping as well. Inside, there were tiles of stars (purchased at michaels) that had each guests name on it lining against the wall (these were also the Party favors). The decor was glitzy, chocolate fountain, apple cider fountain, finger foods, deviled eggs, etc. Party Favors- the star tiles and the papparazzi style photos that the husbands were snapping outside- the best one of each girl was printed out and framed as a gift for each person before they left.

6 ) Old School Western : We had a friend that was moving to texas after her wedding... so we straight up threw her a Cowboy shower. We rented out a place that had a mechanical bull. Had everyone deck out in "cowboy gear", some girls came in torn up jeans, wide brim cowboy hats and boots, i think one even wore chaps (LOL), one came dressed as a bar maid... hahaha, that was a hilarious event. Party Favors- lil toy mechanical bull

** lol, we love to have our little parties... it's a nice break from hectic day to day lives and work schedules... I have a lot more we've done, but i'll leave it at this for now **

Re: Bridal showers!

Thank you, these are all really awesome ideas! def. going to keep these in mind

Re: Bridal showers!

Madinahme - I think having a shower would be so much fun and not a waste of time at all. Its just something fun thrown by your friends where you can relax and enjoy the company of some close people not the mention getting gifts!! I threw a shower for my friend and I had a "bling bling" theme basically a diamond ring theme it was really cute - everything was done in chocolate brown and baby pink and it was actually in this bath product store (in the US) where you can customize bath products - the girls loved it bc after the games we all got up and made our products which were also take homes to remember the party. PM me your email ill send you some pics :)

I'm IN having 2 showers one from my friends Ill prob wear a dress and one from my family which ill wear a shalwar kameez. I think you theme is awesome and very unique. Whatever you end up choosing to wear you should most def get dressed up you are the bride!!!

Re: Bridal showers!

Kissik - your parties sound amazing!!! Very creative!!

Re: Bridal showers!

Kissik! What amazing themed parties!! I want to hear more!

In my group of friends we do bridal showers (In Canada). For us it's like one of the rare opportunities that gals can dress more sexy and take their hijabs off and have a Western-style party. We had one for a friend that had a colour theme, and all the decor was according to that colour theme. We had it in a party hall and had music and dancing as well. It was fun!

Re: Bridal showers!

kissik your parties seem amazing!

I wished my friends all lived closer to me so that they could throw me a bridal shower :( Some of my girls have expressed interest but its just too difficult to plan since everyone lives in different states.

I saw pictures of a bridal shower thrown for a girl I know .... it looked luvely. THe theme was pink and it was a tea party and there was even a chocolate fountain! All the girls and aunties wore pink outfits...whether they were desi or western styles. Decorations were pink :)

The bride herself wore a gorgeous light pink traditional shalwaar kameez. She looked stunning and stuck out since all of her friends wore western outfits.

It was held at a very fancy shmancy hotel... which went perfectly with the tea party theme!

Re: Bridal showers!

I like the summery/flowery look for a shower. Flowers make everything feel so festive and have a “happy effect”. Yellow color scheme

Another idea is going with the Tiffany color scheme and making it all fancy with black dresses & elegant dining

I love all the games tho!!! If you need any cool ideas, check out this website:

Re: Bridal showers!

just wondring is bridal shower only done in USA and canada???

Re: Bridal showers!

^ bridal shower is Ubton in our desi culture... more or less its pretty much the same thing!

So over there we call it bridal shower, where as in Pakistan/India its called ubton/mayon/churda etc...

Re: Bridal showers!

For my bridal shower, instead of a party I asked for a girls' night out. I was having so many dholkis, mayuns, mehndis, etc. I did not want another party...wanted something different.

So, thats what we did. We took out a whole day for ourselves...went for a spa day and then dinner, dessert and carriage ride in downtown.

It was a blasttttttttttttttttttttt!

Re: Bridal showers!

That sounds like so much fun!!! Carriage ride - I've never been on one!!! FUN!

Re: Bridal showers!

My bridal shower is next month and we're going a "paris fashion night" theme with pink and black. I hope it's fun :D

Re: Bridal showers!

I went to a surprise bridal shower recently, it was quite a small do - held at the bride's cousin's house, but I think the fact that it wasn't over-planned made it a lot more fun and relaxing.
One of the games we played was to get into teams - each team was given 3 white toilet rolls and given the task of make a wedding dress!

Re: Bridal showers!

OF COURSE a wedding shower is a MUST! Im getting married in 19 days, and just had my couples wedding shower two weekends ago, and a lingerie shower the weekend before that! My MIL wanted to do a couple's shower so that my fiance and all families could be included. It was AMAZING! Ive been to like 10-15 wedding showers ever since me and my friends hit our 20's, so i was well knowledged in helping my sister plan it for me.
DEF DEF DEF have someone throw you one-- we got a TON of gifts, and it just another great opportunity for both families and friends of the b&g to mingle and get to know each other before the wedding.
one of my best friends had FIVE wedding showers before the big day. One for each group of friends/family. Shes white american of course, but STILL!
She had
1) stock the bar shower <--- most paki brides wouldn't go for that ;) was held on a party boat!
2) big hat bridal tea shower <---hosted by her aunt, everyone wore huge sunday hats and we had brunch at this small cafe
3) lingerie shower <---right before her bachelorette party
4) couple's shower, thrown by her husbands best friend
5) coworkers threw her a bridal shower on their lunch break at work, all chipped in and gave her a $500 gift card to Macys!

will post pics from my shower the other weekend.. once i can figure out how lol

Re: Bridal showers!

anyone wanna gimme a quick explanation of how to post a picture? :/

Re: Bridal showers!

We are doing a Breakfast at Tiffany's Bridal Shower for a friend in May...cant wait and will post pictures!

Re: Bridal showers!

O my, I can't handle more then one shower!!

Reha, you've got to show me pictures of this shower! I want to do the same for my friend because I know she would love that. If my shower doesn't come out tacky, I will put pictures up too. lol
We have a dress code of wearing something glam, so I'm excited to wear a non-desi formal dress. It'll be a change from wearing shalwar kameez at all dawats and wedding days

Re: Bridal showers!

My shower was Sex & the city theme, since i love that show and the movies  everything was hot pink and black, there were cut out of shoes and purses hanging every where. thefavors were little shoes filled with candy (paper shoes of course.) here is a picture of the cake:
