Bridal Rental Shops in New York

Hey ladies-

My friend is getting married in december and she doesn’t plan on having a lavish wedding, or anything- more like just family, small party- Her mayoun and mehendi will be at her house and Nikkah at a hall and a reception at the guys house-

So, she asked me a question if she can RENT a Bridal dress and if so from where. She lives in USA NY

I asked her why wouldnt she want to just buy a dress. She said " i dont care too much for cherishing my wedding dress forever and my kids wont wear it since it will be so oout of style by then, and dont want too much expenses"

So if u ladies can help me with any ideas for my friend or any links or stores you might know, that would be great- Thanks all

Re: Bridal Rental

maybe she can borrow one of her friends lehengas if they don't mind her wearing it?

Re: Bridal Rental

I think as far as pakistani wedding dresses go you can't really do rentals, like you can on american wedding dresses. Also if her wedding is so simple, why doesn't she do a nice shalwar kameez, pants, or a light langha. There are so many choices, it does not have to be too expensive. You can find anything in any price range.

Re: Bridal Rental

i agree with gaia, she can do something other than a lengha or gharara. she can buy or even get a nice shalwar kameez outfit made.. with pants since thats in style, or even churidar for a more traditional look.

i dont think ive heard of renting desi clothes...

Re: Bridal Rental

well..i have my Nikah dress Golden chori dar pajama full work on shirt n duppata ..ask her if she want i will give her for free to wear on her wedding...

Re: Bridal Rental

Awww...Kinzz that is so generous of you Mashallah!

I planned a wedding just a little while ago and tried looking around for a good bridal dress to rent. The thing is, you can easily find American wedding dresses to rent (sometimes its just better to buy because the prices go up when you're talking about quality anyway), even tuxes...but no such luck on ethnic wear. So, her options are really limited here. Even in New York City, she wont be able to find Indian/Pakistani bridals to rent out.

She can either borrow from someone, take good care of the clothes as if they are her own and return them later.

She can make a very light outfit which will not cost her as much to make.

What is her budget for her bridal? If you tell us, maybe we can find something she might not have to rent and can actually keep and re-make into something else later. The cost will depend on the type of work, amount of work and type of fabric used to make her bridal. What is her time frame? When does she need this done by?

Re: Bridal Rental

Thanks PS..:)

and very nice idea about her dress....she can always find a good dress or even lehanga of any budget...

and if still she dont want to buy since she think its small function then she can borrow from someone...PS is right its very hard to get this kinds of deal here is US...

thanks eveyone for your replies- realli appreciated-
and Kinzz thats so generous of you- i will definately ask her-

but i think she wants a lehenga or gharara- no shalwar kameez- and idk her budget i will ask her and update everyone-

and i also told her myself it is hard to find rentals for indian/paki dresses- but lets see what comes of it- thank you ladies- but if you find any websites or anymore information please let me know- thank you all.

Re: Bridal Rental

Why doesn't she make her own lehenga? She can go to Manhattan, buy the fabric of her choice, get fancy trimmings to add to the lehenga or kameez and then get it stitched from here. I've done that with a few of my shalwar kameez's and they turned out great.

lol merva everytime i see ur avatar it reminds me of JONAS BRO'S hahah lol btw-u better b comming tomorrow-

ok so yeh well shalwar kameez its easy to do- but lehenga or ghararra isnt- but i think its a good idea- Hmmm but u know something- the kaam wouldnt b hand done- it would all be print and stitched on- which wouldnt make it look so good.

Re: Bridal Rental

Creating your own lehenga won't be easy to do, but it can definitely be done..i'll give you details on how to when I see you tomorrow!

i used to host college shows and participate and a few times i have rented an outfit twice but only bc they knew me for like 10+ years as a good loyal customer, i brought them business on a steady basis, and the last time i hosted a show they were a vendor and used me as a model bc it just so happened i was wearing one of their creations. :) i was pretty happy.

i think with the economy being bad and how most brides go back home to get bridals you may be able to rent a dress for a price and just agree on a high security deposit that is to be returned in full as long as the dress is in tact. make up a contract too you know how desis can be. i think many shops are hurting for money so it may work.

Re: Bridal Rental

im sure she has some friends she can borrow something off? or maybe she can remake someones clothes if they sell it to her at a cheap price?

Re: Bridal Rental

Best is to borrow a wedding dress. I lent mine to a friend who had a small wedding at the masjid and didn't want to buy a new dress. She was a Lebanese marrying a Pakistani so she wasn't planning on collecting too many desi outfits and thought it would be a waste to spend on a brand new outfit. It fit her really well and looked great on her. Plus my wedding dress got used once again instead of sitting wrapped up in linens inside a box.

Re: Bridal Rental
