I am going to pk with a stopover in Dubai, thinking about getting some gold, is it worth it? Where’s best to go?

go to Gold Souk. If you are taking a cab he will be able to take you without asking any question. Try Damas they have beautiful Tanishq designs, ARY is also good and Alukas is another good option. You will find these shops in almost any mall but Going to Gold Souk gives you more choice as there are many shops there. buying from dubai is better as you can trust on the accuracy of gold used, if they say its 22ct it has to be.... plus you can bargain a lot on making charges....
I lived in Dubai for 6 years and all the gold I bought from there is still like new no need to polish it ever and it has that actual gold shine which you wont find in the gold in dubai
Yep! The gold souk in sharjah and dubai.. I love Damas..they have really pretty stuff!

heyyyy dts wt i did , go to gold souk we spent a wholeeeeeeeeeeeee day there actually wto days i brought my gold from pure gold i think thats wt their called dey gve us good discount coz we brought quite a lot. out of all the shops in gold souk dey hve d best in my opnion . hve lotssssssssssssssssss of funnnnnnn.

Also Khushi jewellers and Meena Jewellers in Bur Dubai have some lovely sets .........
I prefer the shops on Cosmos Lane rather than Gold Souk Deira though its been long i haven't been to either places.......so things might have changed.....

If u want pure gold sets then purchase them from Dubai, if you plan on wearing sumthing on u're wedding day then jewellery shops in Pakistan have WAY better designs!

this is my first time on Gup Shup so Salaam to you all. 
I was hoping you could all give me some advice. I live in the UK & hoping to get hitched in Pakistan later this year inshallah. But my plans are being hampered by the Credit crunch! The Gold prices in the UK are very high. My parents were hoping to buy me a medium sized gold set.
We have some relatives in Dubai who can buy a set for me. So basically what is the price at the moment in Dubai for a small/medium gold set? Which shops if any are good for price and quality? Or do you think i should just buy it from here?

Wasalaam I think its a great idea to get it from dubai! not sure on exact prices but theyr are supposed to be cheaper than uk! Mum bought me some gold bangles from there last year, cant remember price, but they have great designs! Also they charge tax in uk and dubai gold is tax free. I wanted to get my wedding set from dubai but mum made me get it from here to save us travelling there again. In dubai the Gold Souk is the best place theres soooooooo many shops and you can haggle and get a good price! If your not going urself send some pictures to ur relatives of the kind of set u want cuz thers soooo much variety.
Gold in Dubai is as expensive as anywhere else right now.. a small set would be for about Dhs. 5,000-6k. The designs here are all really Indian.. so if u like really yellow gold then u might like something here. Otherwise it's the 21k gold sets..
Damas has a nice collection Pure Gold rarely has anything nice..ARY (i've never really liked the stuff) mainly because majority of their sets have "meena" done on them.

bought all my wedding jewelry from dubai its slightly cheaper than anywhere else but not too much of a difference now days however there was a major difference about 5 yrs ago and was so worth buying gold from dubai but not so much now just bought 2 heavy sets from dubai in Dec. 08 and got its beads changed to match my dress form pakistan value wise in the long run totally worth it btw i kept the gold things tht came off and the colored beads went in its place after the wedding i will get the gold beads put back on to keep the gold value the way i bought it

actually my mom went and bought everything its the main gold market in dubai my moms cousin lives there and took her to all the stores and yes bought my churiyan from there a big bangle and 2 sets tht i will wear on my wedding also bought my MIL 2 karas SIL sets and FIL's watch so majority of the wedding shopping was done in dubai

u could go to meena bazaar or gold souk my parents bought the set and chooriyan from meena bazaar and i bought a nice not so heavy set for after parties and all from Damaas which i really love

nice designs and good rates as well u will find aal types of jewellry in dubai 18 kt,21 kt,22kt 24 kt.same in designs u can find indian style, singapore style,arabic style and worldwide trends are available in dubai.and the prices are also good almost same as in international markets.

yeah the real big gold souk which is next to the spice souk is a must visit!
I'm not a fan of the gaudy yellow gold and Bahraini designs.. I'd still say buy u're jewellery from Pakistan..they have great designs!
