Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

I have to say that though I would wear a shorter shirt with the Kazmi one, I do think it's not just the length but the coat style that is my concern. The coat has a looser fit, as does the gharara. A more fitted and stream-lined long shirt might still work.

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

mid thigh length would really flatter her height...I am 5 4".....and I too am going with a longer shirt.....(midthigh).....because the definition of 'long' changes with your height....

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

traditional gharara shirts are meant to be mid thigh... i mean, the shirt should end a few inches above the gote at the knee.

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

does any 1 knows abt umar sayeed's site

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

yeah but its not working

Umar Sayeed

found an outfit in these colors and its goorrrgeeeaousss

how about subbing pale pink for the turqoise, zigs?

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

i love them both ! bunto kazmi is making my wedding dress to and its kinda similar but in red i really like the umar sayeed one does anyone know where he is located in karachi i wanna get clothes from him he seems really good too!!

The bunto one is definitely more suited for shaadi (the umar sayeed colours are way too dull). Like most ppl i also think the shirt should be shorter. I love peach and green! don’t change it to aqua b/c that’s just too close to the pink/turquoise that way too many ppl have done…Peach/green will stand out. Here is a pic of a GORGEOUS peach/green gharara - I absolutely adore this:

This shirt length works really well with the farshi gharara. Notice it’s nicely fitted too. It’s just so graceful!! And it doesn’t hurt that the girl wearing it looks like a model!

Yah, that's "normal" length to me. These long shirts are mid-calf. A gharara would look odd with anything shorter than mid-thigh. Sharara/lengha shirts don't work with ghararas because of the two painchas.

lovely pic, girly girl!

I would definitely want the shirt to be longer than that…I think the suggestion to keep it mid-thigh length sounds pretty appropriate? I’m just wandering if the shirt length in the outfit pic I was sent by Bunto was preference of the bride it was made for?

Not yet...I need to have an answer soon because Bunto is expecting a deposit very soon..arrrgggggghhhhhhh!

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

SGC- the outfit you posted in the peach and turqouise is absolutely gorgeous...I guess it would work really well in the outfit, but my mum wants to stay away from the turqouise colour since alot of the brides outfits have lighter shades of blue already...

OK…I think I asked this question before, but if you look at the Umar Sayeed outfit and the one SGC posted of Bushra Ansari’s daughter’s outfit at her wedding, they look nothing alike. I’ve confirmed with Umar sayeed and the Busra Ansari one is a watered down version.

The motifs in the advertised image seem colourful, but much more subtle compared to the Bushra Ansari version, which seems kind of in your face.

I’m thinking if I considered making the one shown in the advertised image, would it be like floral overload?

I’ve included a description I was given of the outfit after I posted some questions to Umar Sayeed:

  1. The duppatta is heavy. But it is fixed in a way that the weight is distributed on shoulders, and hands. But yes, dupatta is heavy.
  2. There are two borders of dupatta. The first is sequins pattrn and the other one is floral.
  3. Two paincha gharara, fully worked with floral patterns and sequins and sprinkled with diamantes.
  4. The aactual colour is a bit darker than in the picture.
  5. Yes, the skirt has a javar lining like all chiffon gharara.
  6. Materials are chiffon and of course jamavar lining.
  7. yes the base colour can be changed to something lighter…suggestion: shades of beiges.
  8. It will take about four months.

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

zigs if you haven't seen the umar sayeed in person, i would NOT take the chance... especially since you've taken on a huge responsibility of getting it made for your sis in law and she'll be wearing it, you know?
unless they're willing to send you an entire sketch plus fabric samples so you can check material, color and kaam, i wouldn't place an order with them. monitor colors vary too so anything they send you online might look accurate to them, but may not be the same thing when you look at it.
also the jewellery you've bought - would the colors go with the umar sayeed? does it have green and magenta in it?

i'd say keep the bunto. as per chanda's suggestion and sahar's, make the shirt mid-thigh length like on a regular gharara (look at the pic girly girl posted), make sure its nice and fitted and not loose, and do the peach with magenta and gold kaam accents with the green (whether emerald, sage, olive or chartreuse (like in your sample) showing up in the piping on the edges only. you can also do a magenta dupatta to visually break up all that peach and not make it look like she's wearing an entire bolt of fabric.

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

SGC - thanks for the suggestion...believe it or not, I had exactly the same change in mind for the Bunto outfit...it will mean though the magenta will become much more visible once the length of the shirt is reduced, considering both duppata and the skirt will be the same magenta colour. We all really love the magenta, so we dont' want to exclude it either...you think it will look fine?

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

hrm, hold on... so the shirt is peach, but gharara and dupatta are magenta? i'm sure with kaam and all of that, bunto will manage to integrate it all so that it looks like a well-coordinate ensemble. plus it'll definitely give more of the traditional bridal look if its more magenta than peach.

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

^ yup, duppatta is the magenta net fabric with the small gold polka dots, peach shirt will remain the same as in the pic, but reduced in length as suggested and the gharara will now all be magenta if the green beneath the gote is removed completely. Instead the green could be used as an accent to the rest of the outfit...do you see now? I guess i'll have to run this by Bunto to see how she feels the end product will look like?

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

that sounds lovely! i think the two- magenta and peach- would work really well together and the green piping on the edges will just give it a little bit of a kick instead of being a main focus. and yea, definitely talk to bunto and see what she thinks of it.

as an aside, ziggy, i think it's really nice that you and your family are giving so much time and consideration in choosing an outfit for your bhabi :) IA it will turn out great!

Re: Bridal dress dilemma - Which one???

thanks girly girl...I hope it turns out well :)
