Make the trip dear.. at least you wont spend $1000 or more on a ticket to Pakistan which does add to the total costs. If you dont find what you like, then a trip to pakistan may be in the works.

Are you travelling in December? The high season fares are quite outrageous… my last ticket was by Gulf air last October and i paid $1000 for a round trip to pakistan from Boston.

Devon Ave. in Chicago isnt too good unless youre into the ‘Indian’ look. Indian lehengas, even the ones by huge designers like Ritu Kumar, totally look like something a dehati bride who’s impressed by all things shiny would wear. Cheap satins and nets made from polyester and nylon…encrusted in gaudy zardozi and sitara work with plastic ‘gems’…its such an unsophisticated look.

Most of the Pakistani stuff available on Devon is rubbish too…very low end, ready made stuff being sold for hundreds of dollars. But high end Pakistani beats high end Indian any day. There’s so much more of a commitment to using handwoven silks, with well-placed, intricate embroidery in Pakistan…not to mention the fact that Pakistani karigars apparently realize that there are more styles of embroidery out there than just plain zardozi and sitara work. It really bothers me when Pakistani designers try to ape Indian styles…Pakistani style is far more aesthetically pleasing than Indian style, and I really hope they dont lose their good taste in an effort to compete with the Indians. Heck, even Ritu Kumar was forced to admit that Pakistani embroidery is superior to its Indian couterparts, because many of the Muslim families which traditionally practiced these arts migrated to Pakistan during Partition.

That said…Raaz is probably the only store on Devon worth visiting. They feature all sorts of designer collections from India & PK, and compared to them, the rubbish on the rest of Devon just looks gaudy.

We need more pakistani’s like you who take pride in the products of Pakistan and are not shy to express it.

Pakistani designs are detailed intricately and althou they r less bling bling compared to Indian stuff, they have a regal look to them which is makes them a lil more classier and elegant.

Oh and the designs u postd, ithey are very pretty but I have seen so many brides do the devdas look its gettign old... Personally im all devdaased out sigh

The Devdas look has been completely over for at least 2 years now. It was just the craze in the wedding season immediately following the realease of the film.

The Devdas look has been completely over for at least 2 years now. It was just the craze in the wedding season immediately following the realease of the film.

Nothing worse than brides who dont understand their body frame vs a fad and wear the mermaid/fish tail lehnga and really look awkward!

SM, someone told me i shudn’t wear lenghas coz they make u look even bigger so what, i shud wear a freakin salwar kameez to my own shaadi I dunno waht kinda lengha wud look nice on me, the mermaid one only looks nice if u hav a nice shape, hips n all.. i hav no hips, just a tiddh

I’ve seen what they call “kundan ka kaam” – not sure if it’s the same thing. Looks pretty.

Swarovski crystals are very pretty and very costly. I bought some to put on a kameez and they cost me 25 cents each so imagine the cost they will rack up on a lehnga. Plus, i dont think they would be the most comfortable thing to sit on especially since there is always work onthe back side of pakistani made lehngas also. Imagine feeling like you are sitting on pointed hardened peas!!

Pakistani clothes are much better , the fabric and all, andf if you can afford to spend some dosh then go for Faiza Sami because her bridal's are timeless

When the time comes inshallah, work with a designer or a fashion consultant. There are many types of lehngas and cuts and im sure they can recommend something that really flatters your body. Yes mermaids look good on certain sizes only- i totally aggree.
