My baby was born 10 days ago and the labour was just fine…it wasn’t as bad as i thought and overall it was an amazing experiece.
Baby is gorgeous and healthy (Thanks to Allah)
The sad thng is that i can’t breastfeed her…she just doesn’t like it…i think my nipples are too small for her to latch on properly. I feel soo sad and upset about this. After 10 days of trying i have gven up…
I tried everything nipple shields, expressing etc…
I have a lot of milk so that isn’t the problem…
Did any of you have beastfeeding problems.how did you deal with it?
^ have you spoken to a breastfeeding consultant/nurse? most hospitals should have one, from what i've heard. i'd say keep trying! someone i know at work said you have to really position yourself so your nipple touches the roof of their mouth, as that's how they suck. if your body is still producing milk, don't give up!
I can totally relate to you since I went through the same thing the first couple of weeks....I never knew BF could be so hard and it was pretty nerve wrecking esp. since you are feeling really week soon after delivery.... the best advice for you right now is to keep trying and dont give up...I suggest that you see a lactation consultant asap...you can ask your family doctor for a referral...
Babies dont know how to latch on properly and thats what causes sore nipples... which is the biggest hurdle I think and makes you wanna give up...but if you keep at it...I am sure you and the baby will both get a hang of it...
Also, read up on the internet about breastfeeding and breastfeeding positions...
my baby is premature so she was 1st not able and then not allowed by her dr to suck for like 1 month .now that dr has permitted her she doesn't like it and also doesn't have that strong sucking power. I used to express milk for her but the flow has gradually reduced. I have read that the milk flow gradually reduce when you express it esp via using hand pump. I use AVENTs. My baby is 99% on formula milk now and she seems fine with that too.
Diamond, I had to switch to formula too for myeldest. He also had latching on trouble and a weak suck. If you get an electric pump like Medela, you can bring your milk supply back up and try a Haberman feeder - its a bottle made for infants with weak suck.
But at the end of the day, if she is fine with formula, thats ok. Look of formulas that have DHA/EPA, those ingredients help brain and eye development. Try not to stress too much about it. You have a beautiful new baby - congratulations! Enjoy her, as long as she is consuming enough, thats the biggest thing!
CONGRATULATIONS, Sparrow! So glad to hear all is well!
I agree with SGC, contact a BF consultant/nurse. They should be able to help. But if it doesn't work out, don't worry! Plenty of healthy happy bottle fed babies around.
omse babies seriously just dont like a mother's nipple.. i have friends who are second time moms .... they had all breast fed their first borns and now with their second babies, all 3 of them are sayin the babies just will not suck... one actually turns her face away in disgust :D its the cutest action but so piss offish for the mom.
if u have really tried.. then its ok man... formula fed babies turn out just as healthy. just get more constipated than breast fed babies.. but nothing that a tummy rub or warm bath wont heal.. my baby is formula fed from 2 months onwards, he is now 8 months... and mashallah he is a big healthy baby. so dont fret :)
Thanks everyone...i just feel so upset and depressed about this breastfeeding issue....i'm so so sad but no-one in family gets it. I will try again tonight...please pray for me.
Her name is Inaaya and she is gorgeous. My labour was about 7 hours and for the whole 7 hours my husband rubbed my back to the point that my nighty ripped from where he had been rubbing so hard. Bless him i couldn't have done it without him.
When she was born they put her on me and i couldn't believe how gorgeous she was all thanks to Allah.
Get the medela pump. My daughters were preemies and they wer 36weekers so their suck was very weak. I used a shield and then i just started expressing. As long as you pump every four to five hours ur milk supply shouldnt go low. Ive noticed if i pump every 6-7 hours which i do alot lately due to being busy then my milk supply does go down. Hand pumps are okay but electrical pump is faster n u need time. My lact. consultant told me atleast try for every five mins n if she keeps refusing then offer her the expressec milk. I hope it works out because i know its tough with preemies. Ur milk is the best so keep offering her.
your milk supply will eventually go down cuz even an electric pump does not have the whole suck that a baby does... it doesnt work the boob like a baby's mouth does.. i have the medela electric pump and i bfed my son for 2 months with both direct feeding and expressed milk... most of it was expressed as he just hated sucking or my boob... after 2 months the supply just started to go down.. i was pumping every 3 hours!!!! by the 3rd month i had like only an oz.. .. i tried evrry trick in the book but it was just not working for me.. maybe its diff woman to waomn..
thnx sahar..
9months.. and it is.. but its also completely worth it.
Were u drinking enuf water and eating well? That made a diff. I sorta went on a mini diet n that was the only time my supply started goiing down and as soon as i started eatin well.. it came back up.
like i said.. i tried every trick in the book... man i must have drunk so much milk with so much crap it in it and water and jeez man.. i just had so many diff things to help.. but i was just told it happens... didnt help :D
