Breast pump

Can anyone please recommend a good one and where to buy it?

Re: Breast pump

Try renting one from the hospital if you can. The medelas are okay, but some of the less expensive brands are absolutely worthless. Rent a double pump if you can, because it can take ages to express one at a time.

It really depends on how often you will be using it, though.

Re: Breast pump

From the reports I've heard, Medela makes the best one. If you're in the west, contact the hospital where you deliver and they will give you the info to rent it, its alot cheaper than buying it.

Re: Breast pump

Rent from the hospital.

Re: Breast pump

Get one of those battery operated ones.
The hand operated are going to give you nightmares for the rest of your life :(

Re: Breast pump

OMG everyone someone posts this makes me want to never have kids :yukh:

A double pump? You guys make women sound like cows :o

Re: Breast pump

wth

Re: Breast pump

rent only from the hospital if not pumping for a long time.EVERY lactation consultant i spoke with recommended the Medela Pump in style..i love it...easy/quick and from what i hear long lasting.. I'm a stay at home mom/breast feed mostly...but use a bottle now and then...once a week at most. It is expensive though...but worth it in IMO.

Kellymom.com has a good review of pumping/breast feeding etc.

Re: Breast pump

Alhamdulillah…Allah ki shaan.

Re: Breast pump

Meem , it really depends on how often you'll be using it...if your planning on pumping alot , you should rent , or atleast get the battery operated ones, which might get a little expensive ...but if your only buying it to pump every now and then , or a missed feeding , you could get the hand operated ones.
Personally , I think Medela is a good one, thats what my lactation consultant reccomended.

Re: Breast pump

Meem: I am renting the symphony by Medela from the hospital. It's about 70 dollars per month. It;s really good.

Don't go for the hand operated pumps...it takes forever and when you have a lil baby you don't have time to sit there and spend hour on pumping 2 ounces of milk.

Re: Breast pump

So umm..how much is the Medela ?? How long does it last (if/when u have more kids later on)?

Re: Breast pump

i think breast pumps last for awhile... girls i know only used theirs for maximum two weeks... they end up being passed around to other family members or friends..

Re: Breast pump

What would you guys recommend for a working mom? After delivery I would be home with baby for about 2 months. Then maternity leave is kapoot so have to go back to work? I dont want baby to get breastmilk and plan on pumping? Also any other working mom, do you pump during the day to get rid of engorgement. Also I heard if you don't pump regularly, the milk could go away? any truth to that?

Re: Breast pump

The more milk you express, the more your body will make. To discontinue breastfeeding, you simply stop. The engorgement eventually goes away.

If you're going back to work and you want the baby to have breastmilk, you'll need the pump. If you're switching to formula, try to do it a week or so before you go back to work. That way, you wont be dealing with the painful engorgement or leaking issues. You'll also get to see how baby is adjusting to the formula so that you make make any switches before you go back to work.

Re: Breast pump

I want to give the baby the bottle once a day or so.....need a break at night and don't want to be feeding with awfully painful cuts and scabs :( (anyone have a solution for them?)
I didn't know hospitals rented them out....will try to look into that when I have time.....is $100 good for a battery operated pump? I don't remember the brand.

Re: Breast pump

Ms MEem, I had SUCH a horrible time with cuts and soreness with my first baby. It turned out that he never learned how to "latch on" properly. With my second son, feeding was a breeze with never a sore moment. Do you have a "lactation consultant" available to you? If you google on "LaLeche League", you may find some really useful help there.

Good luck to you!

Re: Breast pump

lactation consultant?
Whatever happened to the dadi ama ke totkay :o

Re: Breast pump

Meem , did you give birth already? Congratulations if you did :)
I had a horrible time with soreness as well . Make SURE you use lanolin cream between feedings. It helped me a great deal with the dryness, cuts and soreness. It's 100% natural , so you dont have to even wash it off between feedings. But eventually time will help..
And also , my baby wasnt latching on properly. I couldnt believe the pain though. Lactation consultants help , try to go to one. Mine discovered that my baby was tongue-tied(as am I) and thats why it hurt so much. But getting a proper latch always helps.

p.s: $100 is good I guess for a battery operated one , mine was 75 bucks , for a hand op. one
and also , just a tip , but try to introduce a bottle only when your milk flow has been established. If you introduce it too early on, before the babys gotten a hang of nursing, you might confuse your baby. Just be patient , your learning and so is you baby. good luck

Re: Breast pump

what is tounge tied?
