BREAKING NEWS: Waqar Younis resigns as bowling coach

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Waqar Younis resigns as bowling coach

lol.well a test of a coach is not how he deals with the exceptionally talented but the ones who are struggling.pakistan's bowling line up is pretty good except for one or 2 like sami who are struggling and have not able to live upto their potential, waqar asked him to cut down his pace in the england series and made him a horrible bowler.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Waqar Younis resigns as bowling coach

^ was he not a horrible before cutting down his pace? If it was really Waqar who asked him then probably he had realized that since no lightening is going to strike Sami anytime soon so better experiment with his pace.

PCB chief’s insulting attitude forced me to resign: Waqar

By Mohammad Yaqoob
LAHORE, Jan 7: Former skipper and champion fast bowler Waqar Younis, who tendered his resignation as Pakistan bowling coach on Saturday, said the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman’s insulting and unfair attitude forced him to quit the post.

Talking to Dawn on Sunday, Waqar said that immediately upon arrival in Lahore on Saturday after performing Hajj, he tried to contact Dr Nasim Ashraf to know why he was only retained for the Tests in South Africa and not the One-day Internationals.

“After four hours of constant effort, I finally managed to get in touch with him late on Saturday night,” said Waqar. “And when I asked him about the decision of keeping me away from the one-day series, the chairman informed me that it was done by the team management and not the board.”

“But the chairman was dumbfounded when I reminded him that I was also part of the team management,” said the Sultan of swing.

Waqar said he then asked the PCB chief if he was lacking anything to qualify as coach for the ODIs. “But all the chairman could come up with ‘you will get full pay till the end of the contract in April.’

“I told the chairman that I am not hungry for money and if you have no work for me I will tender my resignation tomorrow. To this he said you should do it right now instead of tomorrow, which I did," said the disgruntled pacer.

PCB’s Director Communications, Dr Ahsan Hameed Malik, when contacted to comment on the incident, said only captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and coach Bob Woolmer had the authority to pick the team management and it was on their suggestion that the board kept Waqar away from the ODI series. He clarified that the PCB had done nothing but merely acted on the advice of Inzamam and Woolmer.

Waqar said he that he had also come to realise now that a conspiracy was hatched against him by those who felt more comfortable with the newly-appointed assistant coach Mushtaq Ahmed. He also criticised skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq for not taking him into confidence over the decision.

“Inzamam has kept regular contact with Saeed Anwar (former Test opener) who was with me during Hajj, but he never spoke to me about the decision despite knowing that I was staying with Saeed," he said.

"Inzamam could have informed me about the decision and taken me into confidence but I believe they (Inzamam, Woolmer) are more comfortable with Mushtaq.”

Waqar said Woolmer might not be happy with him since he was not ready to assist him in his job while Mushtaq was ready to go all out for the former England player.

"Since I am supposed to coach the bowlers only, I solely concentrated on that area and did my best to improve their skills. All I can say is that probably Woolmer felt a bit threatened by my presence.”

A visibly hurt Waqar said it was not the first time that the PCB had disgraced the stalwarts of the game. “In the past too, the PCB sacked Javed Miandad in the middle of his contract while the present chairman axed Mushtaq Ahmed barely hours before the team’s departure for the ICC Champions Trophy last November. And now his attitude has been downright insulting, leaving me no choice but to resign,” accused Waqar.

Commenting on his seven-month stint with the Pakistan team, Waqar said he was totally satisfied with his working and tried his best to improve the skills of young pacers like Umar Gul, Shahid Nazir and Rao Iftikhar Anjum.

Meanwhile, it has been reliably learnt that a recent ‘deal’ between the PCB chairman and captain Inzamam-ul-Haq resulted in Waqar Younis’s ouster as Pakistan bowling coach.

Sources say that while Dr Ashraf convinced Inzamam in appointing Aaqib Javed as chief coach of the National Cricket Academy, he accepted the captain’s demand to appoint Mushtaq Ahmed as assistant coach for the national side.

According to information, Inzamam was against the appointment of Aaqib as the NCA coach since the former fast bowler had been a leading critic of team’s performance in recent times.

AFP adds: Younis, who played 87 Tests and 262 one-day matches for Pakistan until 2004, was appointed bowling coach in 2006 for a one-year contract, which was to expire in April this year.

“I have conveyed my decision of leaving the post to the PCB chairman,” said Younis, who returned with Yousuf Saturday from Saudi Arabia after performing the Hajj annual pilgrimage.

“Respect is something that the PCB needs to learn. I am a bowling coach and not a clerk,” said Younis.

Younis said he made a difference to Pakistan’s bowling through his knowledge.

“The improvement in Pakistan bowlers is there to be seen. I took time out from my family commitments to help youngsters, but it is better to quit when you don’t get the respect,” said Younis, whose family is now based in Australia.

Younis took 373 Test and 416 one-day wickets. He is also tipped to take over as New South Wales coach.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Waqar Younis resigns as bowling coach

no his peformance in england was one of his worst ever, hes done a bit better than that in previous series.pakistan beat india in india when he was your premier fast bowler.remember the last day in bengalore? he got cruicial breakthroughs.he did ok in the series against england too at home.well the problem with Waqar is his attitude even when he was captain some folks in the team did'nt like him because he is a bit arrogant.i remember him commentating on sami and basically saying that he was crap.I mean thats not how you treat someone especially if someone has the potential or talent and just not been able to utilise it.its one thing if you have nothing at all in you and you are faling over and over again, but sami is better than that.

[PCB hits back at ‘unprofessional’ Waqar

By Khalid Hussain

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday decided to hit back at Waqar Younis following his resignation as the national team’s bowling coach saying that the former Test cricketer lacked professionalism.

Waqar has behaved in an unprofessional manner and has resigned as Pakistan’s bowling coach in a burst of anger. The PCB has accepted his resignation,” said PCB’s Director Communications Dr Ahsan Malik.

Waqar, 35, announced on Saturday that he has decided to quit as Pakistan’s bowling coach because of alleged mistreatment by the PCB.

His decision to resign came just hours before his scheduled flight for South Africa where the Pakistan team is currently preparing for a three-match Test series starting at Centurion from January 11.

Waqar claimed that the PCB showed him disrespect by not including him in the team management for the one-day series against South Africa to be held next month.

“I was told that my services were needed by the Pakistan team for just the Test matches and they didn’t require me for the one-dayers. I don’t think I deserved such shabby treatment and decided against continuing as the team’s bowling coach,” said Waqar.

However, Ahsan refuted Waqar’s allegations that the PCB mistreated him saying that the former Pakistan captain lacked professionalism and discipline.

The PCB official told ‘The News’ in a telephonic interview that Waqar went on an unauthorised leave just before Pakistan’s tour of South Africa and later threw unnecessary tantrums.

Waqar went on an unauthorised leave which was against the terms of the contract he had signed with the PCB. That shows his unprofessional approach towards an important job,” he said.

Waqar had gone to perform Hajj late last month with star Pakistani batsman Mohammad Yousuf and a few other cricketers. He just returned home on Saturday.

Ahsan said that the decision to exclude Waqar from the one-day series against South Africa was taken by the PCB with the consent of the national team management.

“According to the contract signed by Waqar, the PCB has the right to include him in the team management whenever his services are required,” he said.

Ahsan said that on the basis of his previous performance as a bowling coach, the PCB assessed that Waqar’s contribution in one-dayers was far from substantial. “The PCB prepares performance reports of all of their coaching staff and according to one of those assessments, Waqar had contributed very little as far as one-dayers were concerned,” he revealed.

He added that in spite of it, the PCB was prepared to honour Waqar’s contract which was till the end of April.

Waqar, who played 87 Tests and 262 one-dayers for Pakistan was appointed Pakistan’s bowling coach in 2006 for a one-year period till this spring’s World Cup in the West Indies.

It is expected that Waqar, who took 373 Test wickets and 416 scalps in one-dayers might sign a contract to coach leading Australian regional team New South Wales (NSW).](“http://thenews.jang.com.pk/images/shim.gif”)

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Waqar Younis resigns as bowling coach

Are they likely to replace him with a new bowling coach or will Mushtaq Ahmed do everything i.e. assist Woolmer, become bowling coach, spin coach and obviously act as tabaleegi ambasaddor in the team.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Waqar Younis resigns as bowling coach

Althouhg I agree that Waqar had done so much for the team...it is so undeniable...you can see the effect on GUL, Rana..

But how come this stuff after someone comes back from Hajj...?
What goes on in someones mind during hajj..eg. humility if anything comes from going to hajj...when one see himself as so insignificant a creature surrendering himself to Allah SWT...
so what's up...?
:(

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Waqar Younis resigns as bowling coach

I think its all a sad episode. There was certainly an improvement with his presence.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Waqar Younis resigns as bowling coach

It is very unfortunate that Pakistan super stars are more concerned for their respect and ego than the name and respect of their country.

When Waqar is saying Woolmer didnt like since he didnt help Woolmer rather only concentrated on coaching bowlers, he should be ashamed of himself. Woolmer is doing the job for the money, and Waqar should be doing it for the sake of a country which earned him such a big name. He is famous and in demand only because he played for Pakistan from 1989-2003. He shouldnt forget that he is getting job offers from NSW and other places only because he was allowed by a country call Pakistan to get to this level.

If Inzi and Nasim are not respecting him then it is a shame on both of them but when he talks about not offering help to Woolmer, then he should be ashamed.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Waqar Younis resigns as bowling coach

I didn't say he is an idiot, but he had indulged in many chichori harkatein before settling down and getting married. No references necessary. Little of that impacts his great bowling abilities, though. It impacts when he makes statements where he tries to ride the horse of high moral ground.

In any event, with the unprecedented scathing attack on Waqar by PCB yesterday, and the lack of support he will get from Inzi and Woolmer, it seems unlikely that Waqar will make a come back to national team in near future, so we may just have to bear him in commentary boxes and mid-innings analysis on ARY or Geo.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Waqar Younis resigns as bowling coach

http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/pakistan/content/story/275712.html
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has hit back at claims by Waqar Younis, recently removed as bowling coach, that he was treated unfairly by team management and the board and has accused the former Pakistan fast bowler of behaving in an unprofessional manner.
“Waqar has behaved in an unprofessional manner and has resigned as Pakistan’s bowling coach in a burst of anger. The PCB has accepted his resignation,” Ehsan Malik, PCB’s director communications, told The News.
“Waqar went on unauthorised leave which was against the terms of the contract he had signed with the PCB. That shows his unprofessional approach towards an important job,” he added. Waqar had gone to perform Hajj late last month with Mohammad Yousuf and other cricketers. He returned to Lahore on Saturday, handing in his resignation later that evening.
The original cause of the dispute was the appointment of Waqar only for the Test series in South Africa and not the subsequent ODIs. Malik reiterated that the decision had been taken by the team management, after concluding that Waqar’s contribution to the ODI side was minimal.
“According to the contract signed by Waqar, the PCB has the right to include him in the team management whenever his services are required. The PCB prepares performance reports of all of their coaching staff and according to one of those assessments, Waqar had contributed very little as far as ODIs were concerned.”
A source close to the team also confirmed to Cricinfo that the team management was “not happy with Waqar’s performance as they felt his heart wasn’t in the coaching role. They also felt that Mushtaq Ahmed (newly reappointed assistant coach) was a harder worker and with a far greater sense of responsibility.”
Meanwhile, Waqar criticised Inzamam-ul-Haq, the Pakistan captain, for not telling him of the decision personally. Speaking to Dawn, another Karachi-based daily, Waqar said, **"Inzamam has kept regular contact with Saeed Anwar (former Test opener) who was with me during Hajj, but he never spoke to me about the decision despite knowing that I was staying with Saeed. Inzamam could have informed me about the decision and taken me into confidence but I believe they (Inzamam and Bob Woolmer) are more comfortable with Mushtaq. **
“Since I am supposed to coach the bowlers only, I solely concentrated on that area and did my best to improve their skills. All I can say is that probably **Woolmer felt a bit threatened by my presence.” **
Waqar added, scathingly, that it wasn’t the first time the PCB had disgraced ex-players. “In the past too, the PCB sacked Javed Miandad in the middle of his contract while the present chairman axed Mushtaq Ahmed barely hours before the team’s departure for the ICC Champions Trophy last November. And now his attitude has been downright insulting, leaving me no choice but to resign.”
**There has been speculation in local papers that the decision to part company with Waqar was a trade-off between Nasim Ashraf, the PCB chairman, and Inzamam over the decision to appoint Aaqib Javed as chief coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Ashraf appointed Aaqib to the post last week, a decision that allegedly upset Inzamam, apparently because of the former fast-medium bowler’s constant criticism of his leadership. In return, it is thought, the chairman acceded to Inzamam’s request that Mushtaq be reinstated. **
---------------------------------------------------------------
:what: i.e. personal likes and dislikes dictate very much who’s dropped/sacked and who’s selected/appointed. How very pathetic?

What an utter shambles our organisation (PCB) is?

And grow up Inzi. Will you?
