ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, May 2 (UPI) – Heavy fighting in the Taliban-held areas of Pakistan’s northwest have resulted in the deaths of 55 to 60 militants, government officials said Saturday. Government troops that retook a strategic city in the Buner Valley this week were continuing to fight for the surrounding strategic high ground as Taliban fighters used a variety of powerful weapons against them, the Voice of America reported.
The militants were aiming anti-aircraft guns bolted to trucks as well as mortars and improvised explosive devices against Pakistani soldiers, Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas told the broadcaster.
“Fierce fighting took place at the northern area of Ambela Pass,” Abbas said. “The forces came across a lot of (improvised explosive devices), prepared suicide vehicles, suicide motorcycles, individual suicide bombers and a group of 70 to 80 militants occupying the heights of Ambela Pass.”
VOA said more than 100 Taliban militants have been reported killed since the Pakistani push in the North-West Frontier Province began last weekend.
That is awesome news. is this confirmed by ISPR? His surrender i mean..
i would love for them to interrogate him thoroughly and extract all information and take the fight to the source of their funding/resources, and broadcast it live for all to see.
What Musharraf failed to do, Gen. Kiyani may actually accomplish :) if the heart is in the right place, anything's possible.

ISLAMABAD: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Amir Iftikhar Khan has surrendered himself to the government in Jamrud, state TV reported on Saturday.
No one has heard of this guy and we should take this so called surrender with loads of salt.
Until and unless Baitullah Mahsud and Fazlullah or their so called spokesmen are caught and killed, every such news should be treated as fake and sham action.
This reminds me of Indian army claims in occupied Kashmir where they catch some poor farmer and claim "Famous commander of jihadi group surrenders"
Kill Fazlullah and Baitullah and only then we will know that this so called operation is real.
i thought Baitullah Mehsud was the “commander”.. who is this guy? i don’t doubt P.A.'s abilities but i hope they will verify whether he actually “commanded” anything, or just taking one for the team on behest of Baitullah and others…
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan is an umbrella organization of all the Al-Qaeda fractions in Pakistan.
Thug/Killer/Goat-Lover Baitullah Masud is the chief commander, ..then TTP divided into local fractions and the captured or surrendered Commander is local group chief in the Jamrud district.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan idealogical basics come from Al-Qaeda not from Taliban of Afghanistan !
My bet is that this guy is some joker who was picked up off the streets by the “agencies” for the pro-Taliban elements within our government to say - “Lo jee aap hum par shaq naa karein”
I have not seen a single attack where this guy was involved in or a single news report saying any such person even existed.
Again, take ISPR and government claims as not credible unless proven otherwise.
Everyone is lying when it comes to taking on the Talibans.

yeap the real goat lover roams free, but they caught some chicken lover for the time being.
I thought TTP and Taliban of Afgh. were closely related and both were detached from Al Qaeeda. Which is why the Americans did not want to drone-bomb Meshud inspite of a request from the Pak government (with a specific location)a few months ago, because to engage Taliban in Pakistan would have been outside the mandate for CIA drone attacks in Pakistan(which is only to drone-bomb al-qaeeda, that too within a specific region of fata).
Taliban of Afghanistan never endorse chopping off heads, suicide attacks on security services of Pakistan. Its the Al-Qaeda, it's their ideology of chopping off heads in front of camera's.
People of Pakistan should understand the difference, Pakistan intelligence services support Afghan Taliban, and i endorse it fully, we should. We just can't let western powers to room around in Central Asia.
Afterall Afghanistan known as graveyard of empires :)
Thats how they started off and TTP adopted the name “TT” but perhaps last year or in 2007 Afgh Taliban disassociated themselves from TTP due to their tactics as mentioned by wine.
Its not the “commander”, its the “ameer” who is arrested, very likely he is “ameer” for the Swat/Buner area.

Closet Talibanis like you should also understand that TTP like people are a natural consequence of support to Afghan Talibans.
If you try to spread a disease in your neighbour's house, sooner or later the neighbour will spread a variant of that disease in your house and you both end up losers.
Next time you complain of TTP, remember this.
Proxy games are things that superpowers play because they have the ability to do that far away from their home.
When minor powers do the same without realizing their capabilities, then they will end up where we are now.

Accepted, Al-Qaeda and their fractions in Pakistan is consequence of Strategic depth policy, but for the sake of of Pakistan & Muslim Ummah on whole it is a small price. The policy will continue and US-Led western powers have to leave the region, or it will become their graveyard. It is becoming already, isn't it ?:)

As far as TTP concerned, they will be eliminated anytime we deem fit.

Please convey this minor-power message to superpower, they can't even do shyt without the help of Pakistan on so-called War on Terror.
Last 9 years of misery for western powers shows, the time is running out for them. Consequences for Pakistan is far less then we anticipated !
