Breaking News ... Shoaib Malik announced New Captain of Pakistan Team

Re: Breaking News ... Shoaib Malik announced New Captain of Pakistan Team

Malik can do the entire disco dance, point fingers and move fielders but the reality will remain the same. Point is Malik can not do it alone, Pakistani team is very weak and to appoint a captain with no previous experience is a gamble. It works they are genius, if not; poor guy goes under the bus like his predecessors. One thing is for sure, PCB did not plan this through.

Re: Breaking News ... Shoaib Malik announced New Captain of Pakistan Team

I think they should have consulted with you brother, what would have been your plan? Man with plan?

Re: Breaking News ... Shoaib Malik announced New Captain of Pakistan Team

Captain is never appointed, it emerges from the team. The best PCB could have done is to arrange a domestic tournament of six teams with six possible candidates for captaincy who will choose their own team from pool of players. They will step their field and choose their vice captains. With a tournament, one can actually predict how would a captain perform both as a leader and player. It is not a thinking out of a box suggestion, captains like Ponting and Fleming came through the same system.

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has backed the appointment of Shoaib Malik as his successor and pledged his full support to him. Inzamam, though, warned Malik that due to a dismal World Cup campaign, he would need to take bold steps to prove himself at the helm.
Inzamam labelled Malik a “good allrounder” with vast international experience and the ability to gather the team on one platform. He also shrugged aside claims of jealousy amongst peers at the appointment of a young captain.
“I think there would no jealousy among the teammates after his [Malik’s] appointment as the captain because it is the decision of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and everyone should respect this decision,” he said.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had no option but to appoint Shoaib Malik as captain, said Imran Khan and Intikhab Alam, former captains, speaking before the board announced Malik’s appointment. Imran and Alam added that it would not be an easy task for the 25-year old Malik to lead the side.
“It is up to Malik now to lift his game and first cement his place as a batsman and command respect from the players,” Imran told AFP. "It will largely depend on how he performs under pressure, because captaincy pressure sometimes can bring the best out of a player but some players will simply capitulate.
Imran added that Malik seemed an intelligent and alert cricketer on the field. “He does seem to have a cricket brain,” said Imran. “He looks like a team man.”
Alam quoted the example of Graeme Smith, another young captain, who took over from Shaun Pollock as captain of South Africa following the team’s first-round exit in the previous World Cup. But he added that Smith was an altogether different player from Malik.
Alam also feared that since there were senior players in the side jealousy could be a factor that Malik would have to deal with. “Somebody may need to handle him and the senior players also so that there is harmony in the team,” he said.

I also hope that Malik won't be a reincarnation of Inzimam, & MoYo in one body.

Very good approach by Shoaib Malik ----
**
Lahore: New Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik said Friday that he wants to be an aggressive leader like his hero Wasim Akram.

All-rounder Malik, who was named on Thursday to succeed Inzamam-ul-Haq, also said his first priority was to boost the team’s confidence after their dismal World Cup exit.

“As a captain I consider myself to be in the mould of Wasim Akram. He is my ideal captain,” Malik told AFP.

“I am going to have an aggressive approach. I don’t like a defensive approach.”

Fast bowling great Wasim, who led Pakistan to the runners-up spot in the 1999 World Cup, was known for his aggressive style. He retired in 2003 with 414 Test wickets and 502 in one-day internationals.

In contrast Inzamam was sometimes criticised for being defensive.

Inzamam resigned after Pakistan lost to minnows Ireland in the Caribbean on March 17. The defeat knocked them out of the World Cup.

Malik said that his favourite current captain in world cricket was New Zealand’s Stephen Fleming “because he is also very aggressive.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board said it had chosen the 25-year-old Malik, who has played 18 Tests and 137 one-day internationals, over more established names to give the team a fresh start.

“I know that team morale is not very high, self-confidence is low and my job will be to get back the high positions for the team. It is still a very good team,” Malik said.

“I believe in playing to win. One thing that can bring the confidence back is winning.”

Re: Breaking News ... Shoaib Malik announced New Captain of Pakistan Team

This surely could be an end of Shoaib Malik's career. He hasn't really mustered himself to be a real cricketer, let alone responsibility of leading the team will have serious effect on him. Nothing against the kid, it's just that I do not agree!

Re: Breaking News ... Shoaib Malik announced New Captain of Pakistan Team

Malik's career is just starting. Just sit back and watch him do good for Pakistan.

^^ Yeah, I read that too yesterday. Good show by Yousuf! :k:

But it’s really pathetic of him to blame the toss results for the loss against Ireland. Yes, toss did make a difference, but a team that totally depends upon the toss doesn’t deserve to win matches or qualify for the next rounds of the tournament.
