I think YoYo has boinked for the last time. PCB will hammer him out of the ODI side along with MoYo. I just hope they don't do it prematurely.

Malik is the best choice.
If any player, like Yonis or Yousuf, have a problem with him being captain then they can be benched for a while.
It will be interesting to see if, and how, Inzi plays under Malik.

Well if the selection committee selects Inzi in the Test match 15, then Malik will surely put him in the 11. And then I am doubtful whether Malik will change anything from No 3. to No. 5 given that both YoYo and Yousuf are also in the playing 11. Hence Inzi should have no excuse of not playing.

It will be interesting to see if, and how, Inzi plays under Malik.
Inzi shud not have a problem to play under him but I am not sure if Inzimam will ever return to Test side, I seriously have doubts.
The new selection party will definately try to keep him out on the grounds of injecting young blood.

We can't just kick all seniors out. I think Inzi should play in tests for another year or so. Yousuf and Younis (although knowing Younis he might just lose interest in everything and announce retirement from all international cricket esp. if he does well in county cricket and is given strong assurances of continuation by his club) could still go on playing test cricket for a good 4 and 5 years respectively. And it won't just depend on their form and fitness but also their continued desire and passion for the game.

GREAT move. I think this is an excellent step towards truly rebuilding a side that has promised much and delivered little since 2002. Shoaib Malik is a young and confident player and he has made it clear that he isent the kind of person who a) runs away from a challenge or b) publicly seeks the captaincy. He is the right man for the future of Pakistan cricket.
Now, if the PCB can appoint Salman Butt as the Vice Captain, and hire an Australian as the next Coach, then I will truly have a smile on my face!
But for now - congrats to Malik. Great move for Pakistan cricket.

at last some good news for Pakistan Cricket after 2 months of horror ! :k:
only downside is that he has been appointed on “series to series” basis and that will not give much room to Malik to prove his authority. He should have been announced captain for at least 2-3 years. Appointing him on “per series basis” will also keep open the back door for politics. I am not much worried about Yousuf and younus but Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhter and Razzaq are biggest CHIRANDS and should be told…as they say in AUS team … FIT IN or FK OFF!!!
Now only if we can make Asif vice captain … we will be all set ! Yousuf should not be made VC and he should keep on winning matches for Pakistan by his fine batting.

If I am not mistaken, Inzi was also appointed initially on a series to series basis before Shahryar decided to give him an extended run as captain.
I think the cautious approach is fully justified on the grounds that Inzi was a world class batsman and always commanded a place in the team (captain or no captain). The same can’t be said about Malik yet. What if he started failing with the bat like Vaughan? So I see it as a wise move

^ That is true. The chance always exists.
However, I doubt Malik will ever be like Vaughan. Vaughan captained the team that won the ashes and that went to his head.
Same for flintoff.
Lets hope Malik can stay grounded on earth if he gets success.

Finally a true leadership material is placed on the right chair. This is no secret on KK that I have been rooting for Malik's captaincy for last three years. He is the real choice (no matter how low his averages are), but as far as leadership is concerned he is the sharpest of all. He will be a 'on his toe' type of captain when in field, very active like always.

I kinda liked the way Osman Samiuddin characterized it - "blind date".
We have little idea how he will captain the team.
Malik is young. Relatively inexperienced. Practically has little captaincy experience even in domestic cricket (his only claim to fame is throwing a game).
Despite all that, there is hope and there is excitement. He is young. He is energetic. And to be very honest, I think he is a heck of a batsman too. We'll find in month to come how he shapes up as our national captain.
One thing I can say for sure. If PCB had appointed Yousaf or Razzak, there won't be much hope of a change. We'd still be stuck in second gear, like Inzi's captaincy. The only other person that would have lighted a fire in our national imagination would be Afridi as captain. Reckless but hugely entertaining. None of the qualities we'd prefer to see in our captain, of course.

A captain can be fired any time. So even if you appoint him series to series or for indefinite period, in reality its the same thing. Deliver results or you are kicked out. Temporary (series by series) appointments only give more *sheh *to other pretenders (captain hopefuls) in the team.
In any case, practically its all the same. So I don't think its a big issue.
