Someone points a bat and gets banned for 4 ODI's another one swears at a whole nation and gets banned for one test and 2 ODI's. Justice at its best. Pathetic ICC.

Before anyone jumps on me, I don't think that what afridi did was right but those monkey's at ICC need to get their perspective right. Idiots.

So he is banned for two ODI's against SA and 2 opening matches of the world cup. That is OK.

Well said. I dont like wht Afridi did but in comparison to his punishment, Gibbs got just a slap on his wrists.

Its a good news for Pak, since his bowling form is good, he will be an asset for the team. He can contain during the middle overs very well and is always quick in the field.

Why didn't they ban for two tests matches instead of ODI? Do they look at the fixture of a team and ban players for matches in immediate future? or it is the discretion of the judge? If this is the case then GORA conspiracy.... first they ignored the case for so long since he didn't perform in the first game, but as soon as Malcom Asss saw him tearing away SA side in second match, they all of a sudden thought it is a level 3 offense.

IS there any chance of reducing the ban if Pakistan appeal? if there is a chance then Pakistan should appeal, in that way Afridi could play one more ODI against SA, and if ban is reduced, then he may miss same number of WC games. Otherwise, he is going to miss:

Ban Match 1: 4th ODI against SA.
Ban Match 2: 5th ODI against SA.
Ban Match 3: WC match against WI.
Ban Match 4: WC match against Ireland.

but i thought that if none of the match officials took up the case in 18 hours of the incident, then the case is dropped....

Not that bad, now I think Rehman will get a chance. However I think the punishment should be less, comparing with Gibbs, was his offense level 3? or Level 2?

Kudo's to M. Speed who has just showed how pathetic he was, why didn't he motion the case against Gibbs, or is he soley keeping his eyes on Pakistan?

Malcom Speed brought this charge on Afridi. Not the Match Refree, not the opposition team, but the head of ICC brought the charge. He has the right to do so within 5 days of the incident.

They should appeal and so he would be able to play Sunday.

No Afridi should n't as that would run the risk of him missing the first 4 WC matches. We should all know ICC's game by now

Step 1: Referee bans a player/Speed charges a player
Step 2: Player appeals and is eligible to play until the appeal is heard
Step 3: Ban upheld

^ Although I agree with you if they uphold the ban, but normally the appeal hearing is held soon enough. And if it is atleaset reduced to 3 ODIs or 2 ODIs then Shahid would be in a net positive from the appeal.

The question is what are the chances of the ban being reduced?

I either case Afridi and the Team should learn the politics of the game now. They need to become more shrewd in how they complain about sledging in time and not even look at spectators.

That said, I think it has become fashionable these days to accuse ICC of racism. Indian/Pak/SL boards are more racist than ICC can ever be because they support each other on disciplinary issues and project a regional bloc which is totally against the spirit of an International Game. One reason why I think Darrel Hair's suit has some merit.

Why does the Western World have to be more politically correct than the Asian Countries.

It is like if a Black guy does not like a White Guy it is Okay, but if a White Guy does not like a Black Guy - the White Guy is a racist.

Afridi’s behaviour was dangerous and irresponsible and he deserves to pay the price. But at the same time he also deserves to play in Pakistan’s World Cup campaign, which luckily begins with two official World Cup warm-up matches. This means that Afridi could well be available for the opening encounter of this year’s World Cup, the match against West Indies, if the warm-up matches count. At worst, Afridi will miss only one crucial World Cup match, the other being against Ireland.

Some1: those of us who don't post too often, have always held the opinion is that Afridi is our Pinch Hitter. He is best suited for the lower order spot he fired from recently. Then again, that is what he is : A pinch hitter who can bowl pretty decent spin. He will click on occasions and on others gets out 2nd ball.

So its not being fickle. He needs to be in the team according to the situation and be sent in at the right place in the order like No. 6 or 7.
