Marriot has seen so many bombs over the course of years, but this is the worst one to date. I have attended so many iftars there and its just sad. Last I went over there, they had a very good barracade setup, here as well as Serena, which is why this truck had very powerful explosives. Again, sad news indeed. With the predator attacks of the last 2 weeks, I had a feeling something like this was bound to happen.

It is really pathetic that it is now nearly 2 hours since the blast took place yet there is total silence from the govt. Not a word from either the PM or the president.

its simple math and physics. the 'terrorist' are engaged in war for the past 30 odd years in Afghanistan.... they know more than this.

So sad to hear this terrible news. My brother went for an iftar there only three days ago! I phoned my family today and thank god everyone is safe. Hope everyone is safe down your end. My sympathies go out to all the relatives and friends of the victims. This is indeed a national tragedy, a sad event of epic proportions

this event will not make average pakistanis turn against these terrorists
but they will probably blame america, cia, israel, jews for some elaborate conspiracy theory
thats why i have given up on pakistan
this country will never ever improve but continue to be in a downward spiral into oblivion

Alot of reputed foriegn media channels, like CNN had previously setup their cameras and reporting site centers on the top floor of Marriot.

Sentiments apart but blast of this scale and strength in such a high security zone is an indication of something else...that is, the perpetrators had done elaborate planning...one should not forget Zaradari will be visiting US in a couple of days where he would meet Bush...Robert Gates US defense secretary had said a week ago that ISI would have to be reformed...And sometimes back, there was this assasination attempt on Yousaf Gilani...

One can liken this blast to the first Benazir blast in Karachi in which 140 people were killed.

Most of the people who died I bet were the drivers waiting outside. If you ever goto Marriot, you'll see alot of drivers over there waiting along with their owners's expensive cars. Quite often they just lie down next to the car, or just sit there sipping tea and talking to other fellow drivers.

A new twist in the news... as per an eye witness, one small car came and hit the gate, and a man came out from that car started to shout and warn every one to run..... he specially shouted that you have **three minutes of time. **then there was siren and a big explosion in the truck that followed up..
surely it shows a very well master minded planned. But apparently, the attackers knew that many very poor and innocent ppl were around so they warned them to run.

On Zardari's election day, there was intelligence report in NWFP that provincial assembly or some other important govt building will be targetted...so the provincial govt was vigilant and had made foolproof security arrangement...although, it couldn't prevent the blast but it was able to divert the attack and a police post outside the city and not provincial assembly or any other building was targetted in which 30 people died...
In Marriot hotel, there were CIA operatives, world bank people, etc. staying. Dr Fahmida Mirza, the speaket, NA was also hosting an iftar in which a large number of people were participating. And the place was foolproof security ...So it seems like a deep conspiracy...
Anyhow, this is all too ugly...enough of such ugliness and it should be put to end no matter who and which structures are involved in it.
The blast created a 20ft (6m) deep crater, and destroyed the entire front section of the hotel. The hotel could collapse any minute.
It seems a well-organised suicide attack. Two vehicles were used by the terrorists. A small car rammed open the gates of the Marriott followed by an explosive-laden truck that detonated.

dont generalize that much... most of Afghans and Pushtoons them and yes msot of them are very humble, caring and hospitable ppl... the terrorist are mainly those who are brain washed...
