Re: Breaking news: ‘Plot to blow up planes’ foiled
Apparently Pakistan triggered the events leading up to these arrests, when Pakistan first arrested 2 Britons of Pakistani origin in Lahore and Karachi over a week ago.
Again, given such a prominent Pakistani role - it seems very unlikely that this was timed to divert attention from Lebanon because in doing so it undermined Pakistan’s foreign policy on the conflict.
Why would Pakistan make up information that would make it more difficult to realise Pakistan’s goal of an immediate cease fire in Lebanon?
Two British Muslims arrested eight to ten days ago in Lahore and Karachi gave vital information about the alleged plot to detonate chemical suicide bombs on US-bound passenger jets, officials in Pakistan claimed today.
The details that the duo revealed may have helped to trigger yesterday’s dramatic arrests of 24 young Britons in London, Buckinghamshire and Birmingham, and the massive security clampdown at airports which caused hundreds of flight cancellations and travel chaos for 400,000 people.
A senior Pakistan government official said that five Pakistani nationals had also been held on suspicion that they served as local “facilitators” for the two Britons, without being directly involved in the alleged plot.
“Both the men were British nationals of Pakistani origin and were key members of the Britain-based network of militants. The arrests in Pakistan were made prior to the action in London,” the official told AFP.
Last night US officials told reporters that substantial sums of money had been wired from Pakistan to two of the alleged ringleaders in Britain, so that they could purchase airline tickets.
One report said they were planning a “dry run” to see if the mechanics of the plot worked - and hinted that this was what decided the security services and Special Branch to move in, ending a huge surveillance operation that had lasted a year.
In Pakistan, a senior government official confirmed that seven people had been arrested in connection with the plot, including two British citizens.
The arrests were made in the eastern city of Lahore and in Karachi, Pakistan’s main port on the Arabian Sea.
The two Britons, of Pakistani origin, were arrested a week ago, the official said. The five Pakistanis were arrested on suspicion that they had served as local “facilitators” for the two Britons. It wasn’t clear when they had been detained.
Rasheed Ahmed, a member of the Pakistani government, confirmed that the country’s intelligence agencies had passed on information about the plot obtained from people - including British nationals - arrested in Pakistan.
“Mostly they were British national and Pakistani religious people who have been arrested before and from there our agencies got some clues and that was shared with the British and American agencies,” he told the BBC’s Today programme.

Re: Breaking news: 'Plot to blow up planes' foiled
Were the men arreted in their homes or during check-in???
Where is the liquid which was suppose to help them trigger the bombs off with camera flash?
They said, email came as a tip or email was "intercepted" by the british deceptive devils... what did that email contain? complete and full addresses, names and DoB of the people involved to help the British run raids?
How can you intercept an email that quickly, decode it and then find the 22 people involved and then raid their homes and then arrest them in matter of few hours or few days?
IF these men were captured from check-in line WITH the home made bombs, then the proof of that should be presented.
IF they were arrested from their homes on an assumption that they were going to take part in this plot, then everybody should take this story with some pinch of salt.
This one has holes and someone forgot to patch 'em up.
Re: Breaking news: 'Plot to blow up planes' foiled
The article said that these men were being watched for a year as part of an investigation. ISI's interrogation of 2 of them in Pakistan suggested an attack was imminent, so Britain arrested the remainder in their homes.
If they were being watched, that meant the British police already had the names, dates of birth and home addressed of them all.
Re: Breaking news: 'Plot to blow up planes' foiled
If they were being watched then they must have run down of all the events that took place leading up to the plot? Who they met, who called them, who they called, what was said, what was exchanged, the chemistry knowledged required to make liquid bombs and set them off with camera flash, etc. Who provided that?
For now its:
Airplane, Terror, plot, arrested, Muslims
Re: Breaking news: ‘Plot to blow up planes’ foiled
That’s probably why they didn’t arrest the alleged plotters a year ago when the surveillance started. The longer you watch a group of suspects, the more answers you have to questions like the ones you just asked.
When Pakistan called and said these guys were about to do an attack, and had completed their dry-run test, that’s when Britain would have felt that it was out of time to continue to find more answers.
In the weeks and months ahead we’ll probably find out more about how many of the questions Britain has answers to, and how many of them are not supported by evidence.

I am proud to be a paki .. only problem .. PK will never get the credit its owed.
it should a worked itself - solo by themselves and tell da world . PK is a peace
loving .. responsible ..nation of decent folks with no desire to rock da balance
it has created by being an ally on war on terror.. Unless its conspiracy oh well..
if it is... then .....
Check this out.......
Can any one define this term ......... SCAPEGOAT..........................
In a scapegoat scenario the credit never goes to the credible one..
Now what does that mean and where would one apply this word...
.. We often did it at home remember big brother stole the cookie and
guess who got blamed or framed .. ... Some one has to pay the price..
No matter what the crime. Some 1 has to take da blame so ..............
True or un- true... what ever is the cause da event da scenario guys/gals.
...
May be a smearing campaign a soap opera of the highest order 4 disorder
Remember some one has to be charged.. Usually da one with a least clout....
least credibility in this case the small guy looses and the big boys win ...........
why ....
cant we just get the message... and get use to the century old phenomenon.
... Let me rephrase it in other way.. .. Coz most of us dont get it... life is simply
a series of events .. come war or come natural disaster or man made calamity
...
Who ever can scream and shout da loudest not only gets heard first but also
gets to take da trophy home ... there is a message in this story a lesson 4 all
.. Now unless you folks create a system to be heard n come up with som kinda
a device to get your story out first .. you will end up reading mine first by then
folks.. sadly the trophy is on my table sitting shining n my living room & i smile.
... There is a saying .. early bird catches the worm... Isnt it time to get off your
big fat asses and get down to a screaming shouting yelling match to be heard.
.. practice practice and more practice...... but history will repeat itself u watch..
u watch... dont believe me then just wait n see .. to be continued ..................
If Pk did foil this coup and arrested the idiots then PK should get credit for it...
.. but sadly it wont.. the reverse will happen ... unless Pk is involved & guilty..
Re: Breaking news: ‘Plot to blow up planes’ foiled
Pakistan is getting credit for it
Britain remains under ‘immense threat’ from international terrorism which can only be defeated by global cooperation and solidarity among all ethnic groups in the country, Home Secretary John Reid said Friday.
Reid, speaking a day after British anti-terror police said it foiled a wave of suicide attacks on US-bound aircraft, made a point of thanking Pakistan for its ‘vital’ intelligence operation.
He said that seven people had been arrested in Pakistan in connection with the plot.
While the investigations and police operation against the suspects were ‘driven’ by Britain, Pakistan had provided vital intelligence clues, Reid told a news conference in London.
‘We are very grateful for all the help and cooperation from our international partners, including Pakistan,’ said Reid.

Re: Breaking news: ‘Plot to blow up planes’ foiled
Goverment of Pakistan says indications exist of Afghanistan-based Al-Qaeda involvement. Again, either the Pak government is undermining itself and its own foreign policy, or a genuine plot existed and was broken up by these arrests:
The Pakistani government today said there were indications of an “Afghanistan-based al-Qaida connection” in the alleged plot to blow up passenger jets flying from UK airports.
Britain remained on the highest level of terror alert today as 19 of the 24 arrested suspects arrested were named, and air travellers faced tight restrictions on hand luggage.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry named Rashid Rauf, a Briton arrested earlier this week, as a “key person” in the alleged plot and said there were indications of an al-Qaida connection. Mr Rauf was arrested near the Afghan border, the Pakistani interior minister said.
Reports on the television channel CNN, citing British and US government officials, said the two of the 24 men under arrest in Britain had met an al-Qaida ringleader who is at large in Pakistan.
Matiur Rehman, described as an explosives expert, was reported in March to be planning attacks against the US. The Pakistani government is offering a 10-million rupee (£90,000) reward for his capture. The government officials did not know whether Mr Rehman was involved in the planning of the plot, but they said it showed signs of al-Qaida involvement, CNN reported. Mr Rauf and another Briton were among seven people arrested last week in Pakistan, it emerged today. The arrests were made in the eastern city of Lahore and in Karachi, Pakistan’s main port on the Arabian Sea.
The other five people were Pakistanis, arrested on suspicion that they had served as local “facilitators” for the two Britons.

100% true… What is the definition of innocent?
However, this is a publicity stunt!

Re: Breaking news: 'Plot to blow up planes' foiled
^^
Again, that article ignores Pakistan's role in the timing of this, which undermines the theory that itis a publicity stunt. The article merely mentions that Pakistan arrested 7 people; whereas Pakistan says it provided the evidence that an attack was imminent and so triggered the arrests.
It makes no sense for Pakistan to participate so prominantly in a publicity stunt that undermines Pakistan's foreign policy goal of an immediate ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from all of Lebanon.
Given Pakistan's prominent involvement, and role in driving the the timing of the arrests, this is unlikely to be a publicity stunt.
