MARIETTA, Ohio (AP) -- Two men were charged Wednesday with money laundering in support of terrorism after authorities said they found airplane passenger lists and information on airport security checkpoints in their car.
Deputies stopped Osama Sabhi Abulhassan, 20, and Ali Houssaiky, 20, both of Dearborn, Michigan, on a traffic violation Tuesday. They found the flight documents along with $11,000 cash and 12 phones in the car, said Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks.
Prosecutor Susan Vessels declined to say how the phones, cash or flight information involved terrorism.
Abulhassan and Houssaiky admitted buying about 600 phones in recent months at stores in southeast Ohio, said sheriff's Maj. John Winstanley. The men said they sold the phones to someone in Dearborn, a Detroit suburb.
Investigators going through the car after the pair were pulled over in Marietta, about 90 miles southeast of Columbus, also found a map that showed locations of Wal-Mart stores from Ohio through Kentucky, Tennessee and into North and South Carolina, Vessels said.
FBI spokesman Mike Brooks in Cincinnati said his office was notified about the arrests and an agent was investigating.
A message seeking comment was left Wednesday evening with Ray Smith, a public defender who represents Abulhassan. Houssaiky did not yet have an attorney, Vessels said.
Abulhassan and Houssaiky did not speak at a hearing Wednesday in Marietta Municipal Court in which a judge set their bond at $200,000, Vessels said. Another bond hearing was set for Thursday.
The charges allege the two laundered between $5,000 and $25,000, Vessels said. A conviction carries a maximum 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.

the media is tripping over itself trying to milk every ounce out of it.. because in a few weeks the men would have to be formally charged and be allowed lawyers etc. and then as we know we’d discover that the main planners who are now conveniently missing were actually informants and moles from MI5 and the ones caught would end up plea dealing for their credit card/tax evasion or other minor frauds they may have committed in their lifetime ..

There have been litarely hundreds of fake terror alerts and in every case it has come out even in the lamestream news that they were staged.
White House press secretary Ari Fleischer weeks before he resigned admitted to the press corp that they issued fake terror alerts for political reasons.
CBS news reporting it to be admitting it… Washington times and detail reports from Europe documenting this. What we are witnessing right now though with supposedly replay of Operation Bojinka, I believe is a major indicator that we are about to see the beginning of the World War III in the next 3 months.
We are going to see a massive attack on Iran, a huge escalation in Lebanon and off course it will all follow huge terrorist attacks in United States.
The criminals in government are basically flailing around. This flailing is there desperate attempt to maintain control. They may bring down the entire western word when they do it. This makes the Cuban missile crises look like a tea part compare to what we are facing right now.

They’ve been following this for several months, yet it was revealed only now, when the timing was just right. And even after so much intelligence and bad ass spying by these geniuses, they don’t know whether the threat is over or not.

They say the plan was 3 planes a day for 3 days bringing a grand total of 9 planes. Wow, these sophisticated mastermind terrorists must be smarter than I suspected if they thought they could use the same idea on 3 different days. :hehe:

On a side note, Israel is expanding it’s offensive. But that’s boring, more dead arabs, big deal. What’s fascinating is NEARLY dead white people. :rotfl:

LONDON/DUBAI — Britain claimed yesterday to have foiled a terrorist plot to blow up trans-Atlantic flights, and then brought Heathrow to a standstill even as there was no incident, and, strangely, no information was forthcoming about the alleged plot.

Chaos and confusion prevailed in Heathrow as also other British airports, as several flights were cancelled and the departure of large numbers of flights was delayed throughout the day, following the announcement of the alleged plot.

It had its immediate impact at airports elsewhere, mainly in the US, as flight schedules were hit.

The plot, as per a minute hint that came from the police, “involved a liquid chemical device” and the main targets were trans-Atlantic flights bound for the United States from Britain.

Scepticism was palpable in several quarters, as this is the first time that the authorities remained tight-lipped about a “plot” of such magnitude.

“It is a complete smokescreen to deflect attention from the fact that Britain is doing absolutely nothing about Lebanon”, said Peter Donnelly, a British journalist now working in Dubai.

“We’re in a high alert situation and Blair goes on holiday? I don’t think so”, he added.

“Why no details? Is this how Bush and Blair want to divert people’s attention |from the Israeli manslaughter in Lebanon?”, a concerned citizen was heard asking at a pub in London, as he watched the scenes of airport chaos, from a television set.

"We are confident we have disrupted a plan by terrorists to cause untold death and destruction, said London police’s Deputy Commissioner Paul Stephenson. “Put simply, this was intended to be mass murder on an unimaginable scale”.

British Airways cancelled all its short-haul flights due Thursday between London’s Heathrow and other British and European cities. Another airline, easyJet cancelled all its remaining flights of the day from three airports bordering London, like Gatwick, Luton and Stansted. However, later in the day, British airports operator, BBA, was given approval by air traffic control authorities to resume such flights from Heathrow.

The scare led to arrest of over 20 people in swoops in London, southeast England and Birmingham.

A British security source was quoted as saying an attack was “imminent and could have been carried out in the next couple of days”.

Those skeptical of the so-called plot had many questions to raise.

“What is unusual about it? So many such suspected or real plots have been foiled by police intervention around the world. But, life remains as usual. When you say you foiled the plot, why all this disruption of flights? Why all this noise?”, asked one.

“The first thing is to say what was the plot all about, who hatched the plot, and how was it going to be implemented. Why are the police keeping quiet?”, asked another.

“Is this another ploy to justify the war on Hezbollah in the name of anti-terrorism?”, asked yet another.

Meanwhile, President Bush said he knew of the plot by Sunday last, but didn’t elaborate.

Pakistan helps thwart plot, makes arrests

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan made some arrests in coordination with arrests made in Britain to foil a plot to blow up airliners flying to the United States from Britain, Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said on Thursday.

“The arrests in the United Kingdom have followed active intelligence cooperation between Pakistan, the United Kingdom and the United States,” Aslam said. “There were some arrests in Pakistan, which were coordinated with the arrests in the UK,” she said.

The suspects arrested in Britain were British nationals, Aslam said. But she was unable to elaborate on who had been arrested in Pakistan. “In fact Pakistan, played a very important role in uncovering and breaking this international terrorist network,” Aslam said, adding that cooperation between the various intelligence agencies had been spread over a period of time.

Meanwhile, a security official said Pakistani intelligence agencies helped British authorities foil the plot. “The actions that have been taken in London were made possible only with the close cooperation between Pakistani and British intelligence,” the official said on condition of anonymity. “Pakistani intelligence cooperated and provided vital information that led to these actions. They conducted an operation here and on the basis of that operation we provided leads to London police about the plan to bomb the airliners,” the official said but gave no details about the operation.

The scary thing is these again are crimes purported to be planned by "homegrown" Islamists fundamentalists not by immigrants like 9/11. I fear we're still in a state sponsered terrorism mindset from the cold war instead of thinking of terrorism as a different type of war. On the other hand this may be particularly a European problem with America as a co-target.
