Mohammad Amir, the Pakistan fast bowler, has been released from Portland Young Offenders Institution in Dorset after serving half of his six-month sentence for a spot-fixing scam.
Amir is expected to spend the next few weeks in London before returning to his native Pakistan. He will meet his lawyers to draw up an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the five-year ban imposed on him by the International Cricket Council.
Amir was sentenced along with two Pakistan team-mates, Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif, after a plot to bowl deliberate no-balls in a Test against England in 2010.
He lost an appeal against the sentence in November in the Court of Appeal in London.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
As the article says: "Under the terms of UK law, all were eligible for release after serving half their sentences."
I'm glad he was able to avail the option and was released - only because he's still young it was a first time offense. Hopefully, he's learned a lesson through this ordeal.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
does this not mean tht he and the other players wont be learning a lesson from his mistake?
If they have any sense they will. he has served his sentence. He was jailed for 6 months and was to be released after serving half his sentence. In case of Amir I think he has suffered enough as he was young and put under pressure by our chichora captain at the time. Got to give him another chance. The other two, they can rot in jail.

but why he got free after serving only half the sentence?

All three have been given the same sentence where they will only serve half their sentence. Judges decision. In case of Amir he took his age into consideration.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
Hey Ehsan bhai. I never honored Pakistani team by captaining it
PS: Did he get a free hair cut?
PS2: I wish he can talk to PCB and ICC to reduce his 5 years ban instead of taking them to court of arbitration. Once he has a bad blood with ICC/PCB, he might never be selected even if his ban is over turned. He should talk to PCB/ICC and somehow get his band reduced to 2 years or so (from the time of offence)
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
And whenever he will take a wicket some racist jerk will start mentioning spot fixing controversy, in every press conference, instead of being praised for his skills he will be asked the same question.
Its a narrow road ahead for Aamir. Lets hope he gets a chance to lead a new life after getting out of jail, that supposedly every person is ought to have.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
He made a mistake, he was punished. I hope everyone understands that and we not bring Spot fixing controversy in front every time he hear his name. I hope ICC takes off his ban now.
I had some hope when i saw future ICC chairman a bangali. However now that they r talking about reducing role and powers of chairman i dunt think it will be up to chairman to take the ban off. Seems like that cheese Aamir went after isnt just a mouse trap I think they have more plans to ruin his future.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
Why not?
aapka england mahaan....pehlay andar karkay fasad khara kiya...ab jab unkee team kee chitrol lag gayee tau is koh chor kar fasad shuru karna chahtay hain.....like rameez raja said in a recent intervie when asked if aamir could come back he replied, "would they want him back?, when the atmosphere in the dressing room is so harmoniuos then why would they want a man with a taint back there?"......so lets see. I do agree with d6c that if he really wants to come back then cas may not be the best option.
