Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
I wonder how the team and current captain feel about this news.
If ICC lifts the ban than I am sure the team will be happy to have such talent back with them. Not too sure about the other two.

It's their nature to have a problem ..... Cricket may be a game of Glorious uncertainties but the Rona Dhona of the above mentioned Media remains a reliable constant state of affairs .... sad but true
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
He can't come back into the team any time soon. The best he can hope for is serving another 1-2 years of ban, and then being allowed back into the game by ICC. He HAS to serve another 1-2 years to be a deterrent for other wrong-doers.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
Given his youth and all that.. I'm okay to see him out of jail already.. but I'm not okay with him playing cricket already. Another 2 years of a ban I'd say and that would be punishment enough. In 2 years he will still only be 22-23 I think and will definitely have the opportunity to build a strong career.

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq says if fast bowler Mohammad Amir is cleared by the ICC to return to play international cricket then “we will see what happens.”
The 19-year-old Amir was released from jail in London on Wednesday because of good behaviour after serving half his six-month sentence for spot-fixing with two teammates during a test against England in 2010.
Amir was banned by the International Cricket Council until September 2015, but his mentor says the player will now appeal to have his suspension overturned.
Misbah said on Thursday that “as a cricketer you feel sad about such incidents” but only “once he is cleared, once he is available, only then we will see what happens” about an international comeback.

CHANGA BANGIAL, Pakistan: Disgraced Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir will announce his next move when he returns home later this month after his release from a British prison, his brother told AFP.
Mohammad Ijaz said the family was delighted that the 19-year-old had been freed after serving half a six-month sentence for spot-fixing in one of the biggest scandals to rock Pakistan cricket.
“We are all very happy, my parents especially are very happy,” Ijaz told AFP by telephone.
“He will be back home in the next two to three weeks. I talked to him yesterday. He was very happy and asked me to convey his best wishes to his parents and family members.”
“He will announce his future plans once he returns home. I don’t know when he will be able to play cricket again for Pakistan because of the five-year ban,” Ijaz added.
Amir was one of three Pakistan players jailed by a judge in London in November over their roles in a plan to bowl deliberate no-balls during a Test against England at Lord’s in August 2010.
He is also serving a five-year ban imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Amir’s father suffers chronic stomach problems and is “desperate” to see his son back in the humble family village of Changa Bangial, Ijaz said.
The family house was closed on Thursday. Neighbours told reporters that they had gone to the eastern city of Lahore, but other relatives living in the community said they did not want to talk to media. (AFP)

Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
His next mover should be to apologize to people in Pakistan and show some remorse.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
Why do Pakistanis have such short memories?
Have you guys forgotten how Amir disgraced the nation? I dont see why the criteria for Asif,Butt and Amir should be different.
All 3 cheated the nation and all 3 should not be allowed to represent Pakistan again.
Spending a few months in prison, and then saying "Sorry I was duped" does not qualify as an apology, or merit the person to be forgiven. Amir, while coming from a village, was clearly no "gaon-ka-seedha-sadha-bacha". The way he carried himself, spoke to media in english and urdu, and his clear self confidence shows that he was quite capable of knowing what is right or wrong.
At the most, after his ban is over, he can be allowed to play domestic cricket but he should never be allowed to represent Pakistan in the international arena again.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
that is exactly what I expected smart Misbah to say. He doesn’t disappoint me at all ever. If ICC then subsequently PCB clear him and actually ponder upon offering him a contract to play for Pakistan, then what will Misbah be able to do? And by that time enough discussion would have happened as well.
Great answer Misbah.

Its not about talent. Its about rocking a smooth sailing boat.

True but you cant ignore such talent.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail

sure you can, PCB has ignored talent for wasteful reasons in the past, this time, there is very good reason.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
Here is my position, since he went to juvi, he needs to shows a clean beginning with a display of highest level of ethics, discipline and "God fearing" attitude. Will PCB be able to do all that?
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
So far he has shown a lot of remorse, more than the other two who were defiant till the end

as for asif, he was a habitual offender, with bottom of the barrel character traits (look at everything about him), and butt to me came out to be a conniving cheat who actually saw captaincy has his personal lordship. No comparison at all with aamir, I agree.
However display of remorse won't fix the fault in character, he should be taken through some training and debrief therapy along with any other that were ever fined, caught, or even implicated slightly.

Agreed. My point is when he is allowed to come back he should not be ignored, not trying to make a special case for him. It has to be when ICC allows him.
Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
Agreed Aamir needs to make a top class case for his own sake first, 50% of it is made with his talent, rest of the 50% is character that he needs to show.

PCB chairman wants Amir return

PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf has said that Mohammad Amir, the Pakistan fast bowler who was released from custody in the UK on Wednesday, will be welcomed back to the national team once he has served his ICC ban. Ashraf added that Amir would be given financial support while undergoing rehabilitation.
The 19-year-old Amir was released from Portland Young Offenders Institution in Dorset after serving half of a six-month sentence for his part in a spot-fixing scam. He is currently in London where he will meet his lawyers to draw up an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the five-year ban imposed on him by the ICC for the same offence.
“Once he serves the ban, then he could come into the team,” Ashraf said. "He is a young Pakistani, he committed a mistake and it was a case of a huge talent lost.
"We will have to see how his appeal goes in the CAS. After serving the ban he can come back in the team, but the final decision will be down to the selectors who will judge his fitness.
“I want to see Amir back, but only after considering the legality of the case and only after he serves the ban. We can do the rehab programme while he is serving his ban. We can do the rehab programme and also use him in lectures to other players so that he can be financially helped.”
An ICC tribunal banned Amir for five years in February 2011. His team-mate Mohammad Asif was given a seven-year ban - with two years suspended - and the former Pakistan captain Salman Butt was banned for ten years, five suspended. Shortly after the decision Amir announced his intention to appeal the decision to the CAS, an arbitration body set up to settle legal disputes relating to sport.
Amir and his two team-mates were give custodial sentences in November 2011 after being convicted at Southwark Crown Court of conspiracy to accept corrupt payments and conspiracy to cheat at gambling. A plot to bowl deliberate no-balls in a Test against England in 2010 was uncovered in a News of the World sting operation. Amir and Butt lost an appeal against the sentence in November in the Court of Appeal in London.
The judge, Mr Justice Cooke, ruled at Southwark Crown Court that the affair was “so serious that only imprisonment will suffice”. Butt was sentenced to two-and-a-half years, Asif was jailed for one year, and Amir for six months. Mazhar Majeed, the players’ agent, received a sentence of two years eight months. Majeed had boasted to undercover reporters that he could arrange for Pakistan cricketers to rig elements of games for money and was surreptitiously filmed accepting £150,000 in cash from a journalist.
Ashraf blamed Majeed for the players’ involvement in spot-fixing and reiterated that Pakistan cricket would not give up on Amir.
“Definitely we will rehabilitate Amir through an education programme,” he said. “Whatever has happened we are sad, not only me but also most of the Pakistani people are sad for this young boy who, with the other players, was trapped by Majeed.”

Re: Breaking News: Mohammad Amir released from jail
^^ I was just reading that on cricinfo. Seems like Zaka ashraf reads mind of common people like me. Indeed if he undertakes a rehabilitation and education programme as suggested by Mr. Zaka then that is a step in the right direction. Pakistan needs to stop wasting its people and start investing in them for sure.
I support rehab for Aamir!
