Re: BREAKING NEWS : Gilchrist announces his retirement
Seems like it's coming from a very frustrated Aussie WITH A PINCH OF SALT......
**MEDIA RELEASE -
**From the International Cricket Council
For immediate release (especially in India )
The ICC have announced several changes to the playing conditions for the
forthcoming 3rd test in Perth between Australia and India . These changes
include:

*** The umpires shall be nominated by the Indian team. It will be acceptable if reserve Indian players rotate as umpires.
* During the game all appeals shall be referred to the Indian management team and the Indian media contingent prior to any decision being made. (This includes where an Indian player may appear to the naked eye to
have been bowled.)
* When the Indian team is batting the boundary rope shall be moved inwards 20 metres.
* Australian bowlers shall bowl under arm.
*** India must win.
*** Any time Ricky Ponting is on the field he shall be restrained in a full length strait jacket and muzzled.
* Any Australian spin bowler must advise the batsman in advance what type of delivery is going to be bowled.
* At any time Andrew Symons is on the field he must where a gorilla suit and accept any sledging in the light hearted manner that this is
intended.
*** India must win.
*** Harbhajan Singh will be cleared on appeal and be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
* Indian batsman may be permitted to use larger bats.
* Australian batsmen may use a bat every fifth over.
* Australian fieldsman should praise every batting attempt by the Indians by saying "Good shot chaps." Apart from this Australian players are not permitted to speak.
* During the lunch and tea break both teams shall get together and have a cup of tea.
*** India must win.**
The ICC and the BCCI hope that all Australians will understand these minor changes are intended in the best interest of the game.
The ICC would also like to announce that Steve Bucknor has been appointed as the ICC's new cricketing ambassador to Kazikstan. The ICC wishes Steve all the best in this important, newly created role.
Re: BREAKING NEWS : Gilchrist announces his retirement
Thanks Gilly for all the entertainment you provided to use over these years.
He redefined the "wicketkeeper" and also brought a shift in the strategy on how one should play Test cricket and Pakistan were the first one on receiving end
Re: BREAKING NEWS : Gilchrist announces his retirement
One of the best hitters of the game. Destructive, lethal and aggressive. Much of Australian's victory depended on him and he delievered time and time again.
Re: BREAKING NEWS : Gilchrist announces his retirement
a towering personality in cricket - a gentleman Aussie ( rare aint it?)
the respect he commands is evident from the way Indian team applauded his arrival on to the field yday...
he came on into the Aussie side for Ian Healy - nothing short of legend himself and could have easily walked into any other team when he was left out... and how Adam Gilchirst filled his gap and was much more!!
Re: BREAKING NEWS : Gilchrist announces his retirement
What a CRICKETER! An absolute thrill to watch. He took the game to new heights. I always felt a buzz of energy and nostalgia everytime he came to crease to bat. He was a master blend of tradiotional spirit of cricket and aggression through his bat. His swinging of the arms and a certain urgency and rush to his walk to the crease, what a sight! What entertainment! I will miss him more than I have missed any other cricketer in the past 20 odd years! Love you Gilly!
Re: BREAKING NEWS : Gilchrist announces his retirement
He made his test debut in 1999!
Played 96 test matches. While Tendulkar made his test debut in 1989, 10 years before him and has played 146 test matches.
Aussies sure play a lot more tests than other teams.
Then again in 9 years he has more than 400 catches and stumps, an amazing accomplaishment.
True....but 2008 has only just started! so Gilly (test debut in Nov. 1999)** actually achieved all that in only 8 years and 2 months!**
Hence the need for sub-continental teams to (cut down on one-day cricket) play more tests per year....7-9 matches in a year is not enough. The Aussies play 12-16 tests per year which allows their best players to play the maximum number of test matches during their peak years. Ponting is another example.
If Gavaskar and Miandad for instance had the luxury of playing 12-16 tests (per year) during their peak years, I am sure they would have scored in excess of 12,000 test runs. The same goes for bowlers. Even now we don't play as much test cricket as we should.
Hussey aged 32 made his (belated) test debut just over 2 years ago (Nov 2005) but if he continues his present form, he may still end his career with 7-8,000+ test runs!
