Re: Breaking News...Gen Ashfaq Kiani appointed new COAS
I have funny feeling by looking this guy's picture. He will send Mushrraf and the next govt packing...as tradition set by Zia and then by Mushrraf.
BTW, my prediction is that SC will postpone election until its done with petitions pending before the court regarding Mushrraf's candidacy.
You could be right. But the SC is in a real fix over this issue now, especially as we are so late into the Presidential process now. The most they can delay the election (by these assemblies) is less than one week (because of Eid holidays). Anything beyond that means Presidential Election will have to be held by the next assemblies, and that will be in February or March 2008. Until that time Musharraf will remain President & COAS.
So the choice before the SC is to let Musharraf get elected President by these assemblies and then take his uniform off, all within the next week. Or failing that he remains as he is for another 4-5 months. :)
Re: Breaking News...Gen Ashfaq Kiani appointed new COAS
the organisation he headed may demand a soft spoken, low key head but our experience has shown otherwise.
Khair, Fraudiay you mean to say that he'll show teeth in case Mush is not re-elected and goes back to his men to reclaim the seat of COAS?
Re: Breaking News...Gen Ashfaq Kiani appointed new COAS
Interesting, Mush doesn't want a strong COAS so he appointed a JC as well...hmm
First of all JC doent matter much. In old days people used to say k jis general ko SAZA dainee hai useey promote ker k JC bana doo just like ager kisee judge ko saza dainee hai tu usey SC main bhaij doo from PHC.
Secondly, JC is a post that has to be filled by someone. It was very odd of NS to make Mush both COAS and JC. This should not be repeated.
Re: Breaking News...Gen Ashfaq Kiani appointed new COAS
Its good that mushy has announced a successor. I just hope that Kiani was chosen for his professional abilities rather than for being a safe pair of hands for mushy.
Re: Breaking News...Gen Ashfaq Kiani appointed new COAS
I hope that Kiyani takes over and do the job what Musharraf did not do, that is gather all 'politicians, Journalists, Lawyers, and bureaucrats' who are/were involved in corruption amd nepotism, and hang them high until death, in public.
Re: Breaking News...Gen Ashfaq Kiani appointed new COAS
I don't think that the Pakistani public will be in any mood for another army takeover anytime soon.
let the current army govt go away first, then we can talk about "another" :)

as soon as he takes over, he will become Musharraf II

Does this include Musharraf's henchmen like Shujaat, Wasi, Altaf, Sheik Rasheed, Mushahid Hussain etc?
Re: Breaking News…Gen Ashfaq Kiani appointed new COAS
So by the looks of things Kiyani > Musharraf
** Kiyani for President.** All great soldiers must kiss Presidency once in their life time. From Ayub to Yahya to Zia to Musharraf. History talks so profusely about each one of them.
Charhatay Sooraj ko salam. Namastay Paranam. Mush is so last century. Kiyani sada sher hai, baqi her pher hai.
Re: Breaking News...Gen Ashfaq Kiani appointed new COAS
but kiyani will enjoy more popular support than musharraf..
kiyani can not be questioned by anti mush folks
because-he was the only one of the military folks present who** did not file an affidavit against ifti
**
because- he served as an deputy military secretary to BB
because- he has the right last name. ;)
**
because- **he brokered the US sponsored muk mula b/w BB and Musharraf
so because of his roles, pro ifti ppl cant fault him, BB trusted him, and so does musharraf.
rest of the reasons based on his crisis mgmt expertise and ISI background will be of use further on anyways.
even before this nomination he was already involved in lots of politics, dunno if that can be good for the military. will it be good for the nation is yet to be seen. depending upon when mushy actually disappears from the scene and how much this dude kiani starts interfering in pak politics, poeple will start questioning him. mind you, he is relatively unknown outside of military at the moment, but not for long.
