BREAKING NEWS : Firing on Sri Lankan players in Lahore

The news anchor. With a grin on his face.

And who could really blame him..

Trevor Bayliss (Sri Lankan Coach)
“As it stands, I’d be pretty happy to continue with it, so long as we didn’t have to come back here in the near future.”

Listen

Things like these dont happen on a daily basis anywhere else in the world.

Mumbai attacks have been tracked to pakistan (whether its true or not is still to be found out), Now these attacks have happened IN pakistan.

Oh, and if you didnt subscribe to my opinion, Here's what Dhoni and Vettori have to say.

Both Dhoni and Vettori thought the chances of cricket being played in Pakistan in the near future were bleak. "You have got to ask ICC for that [future of cricket in Pakistan]," Dhoni said. "One thing is for sure, I don't think cricket will happen there in the next few years maybe."
"I suppose it's tough for Pakistan cricket to come back from this, for no fault of their own," Vettori said. "It's difficult to see teams turning up there in the near future."

You know what I have to say for you.

Grow up!

This is all sick, I really didn't want to click on Cricketnama today, I don't want to see any news at all. In fact I've long abandoned watching/seeing news as I used to do it regularly, it makes my stomach sick... now I'll have to stay away from news even further.

I salute the policemen/driver who did as much as possible to save the SL players/officials. Government should announced immediate award (medals??) to the police jawans families who lost lives in this carnage

Maddie, why do you think rickshaw driver will not give a ride? When someone comes with a gun towards you and ask for something would you refuse?

More likely, how can a rickshaw driver REFUSE to give ride to men with AK-47s?

Re: BREAKING NEWS : Firing on Sri Lankan players in Lahore

Actually, come to think of it, if you have an AK-47 then you don't need a ride from a Rockshaw driver. You can just make him give you his rickshaw.

Or it's even easier to just kill the rickshaw driver and take his rickshaw. Doesn't leave any messy loose ends such as an angry rickshaw driver who would tell the police what you look like.

Re: BREAKING NEWS : Firing on Sri Lankan players in Lahore

The police investigation is absolutely shameful!!! Why is the police letting members of public wander across the crime scene touching evidence!

The police operation in Lahore appeared shambolic. Members of the public wandered about unhindered, joining police officers and journalists in the search for answers. A young boy gleefully pulled a bullet casing out of the pond in the centre of the roundabout and showed it to the TV cameras and the Guardian came across another bullet casing on the ground that had been missed by police.

Despite promises to hunt down the attackers, dead or alive, the apparent casualness of the police investigation and the failure to apprehend any of the culprits at the time of the attack have fuelled suspicion in a country where the public are suspicious of the security services and the politicians who control them.

Re: BREAKING NEWS : Firing on Sri Lankan players in Lahore

^ Lets forget why/how rickshaw driver gave in to demands of a ride... I saw post by ehsan bhai saying that few of terrorists were caught, but one of the article says that all terrorists fled the scene, any confirmation?

I think if anyone was caught red-handed at the scene it would have been announced immediately.

My belief right now is that they are arresting suspects.

Inna Lillahay wa inna Ilyehay Raj'eoon..

May these killers rot in hell.

This is very very sad. I am lost for words.

Re: BREAKING NEWS : Firing on Sri Lankan players in Lahore

This is definitely the end. Test cricket was already dead in Pakistan, this was the final nail in the coffin.

This horrible news is now the top headline on CNN, MSNBC, BBC, New York Time, Washington Post.

This is a very sad day indeed. Not just for Sri Lankan nation, Cricket players and Cricket fans, but for all of humanity. This is an attack on civilization. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the SL team and the people injured and killed by this heinous crime. Younis Khan asked the whole Pakistan team to go to the airport to meet the SL team there and console and apologise to them. That was a great gesture, considering PK team was also probably worried about their safety following the attacks.

I saw all the discussions about RAW and India behind it, But one question we must ask is who benefits the most from this attack? Surely, not Pakistan. Pakistani's, no matter how radical, dont have any issues with the Sri Lankans. And within hours BCCI already started talking about Pakistan doubtful for co-hosting the World Cup. Why not wait for the dust to settle from this wicked attack before stirring up such talks and summoning the World Cup 2010 committee to meet next week? Look at the facts, and you be the judge!

Re: BREAKING NEWS : Firing on Sri Lankan players in Lahore

If the argument is that Pakistanis have no issue with Sri Lankans, therefore Pakistanis could not have done this - then how come in Pakistan there have been abductions of chinese, polish, and iranian people?

Pakistan's people do not have an issue with these three countries. Yet their nationals have been attacked in Pakistan.

Re: BREAKING NEWS : Firing on Sri Lankan players in Lahore

Let's establish one fact - No amount of security can fully guarantee that 'suicidal terrorists' will not be able to take a shot at their target - certainly not 'targets' like 'cricketers' who due to the nature of their work cannot be 100% shielded from the public. The objective of the security team can only be to protect the 'potential target' from being harmed. To that extent - the Pak policemen did a great job in giving their lives to protect the Sri Lankan team.

It is great outcome that no SL player was seriously harmed. The incident would have had much more dire consequences for Pakistan had that been the case.

Re: BREAKING NEWS : Firing on Sri Lankan players in Lahore

Imran Khan says the security provided to Sri Lankans was one-tenth of what is given to Interior Minister Sherry Rehman. If true, it is truly shameful.

Re: BREAKING NEWS : Firing on Sri Lankan players in Lahore

Also, I always thought there were two basic fallacies in Imran Khan's assertion that terrorists will never risk losing people's goodwill by targeting cricketers.

(1) Was Imran Khan saying that terrorists enjoyed the goodwill of average Pakistanis ?
(2) Did the terrorists - by attacking Marriot Hotel or killing Benazir Bhutto or by orchestrating several attacks that killed or maimed civilians - enhance their goodwill among average Pakistanis ?

To make a statement like Imran did is not only callous but also gives too much credit to the terrorists who are nothing but stupid brainless butchers.

True. The Times reported that after the Mumbai attacks the Indian government put troops all over the entrace to the hotel where the England team was staying.... but that you could still get in through an unguarded door in an adjacent coffee shop.

I agree with those fallacies too. If anything, targeting cricketers give the terrorrists instant headlines that they crave for. If their intent is to cause carnage, mayhem, chaos, and damage to Pakistan, then cricket is the easiest and most high-profile target.

Re: BREAKING NEWS : Firing on Sri Lankan players in Lahore

Kudos to Police they fight like men, all the Sri Lankan Players are alive, Allah ka shukar hai. President & Prime Minister call Sri Lankan President regarding the incident.

People stop blaming government on everything, no body can stop this kind a attacks, these are gureilla attacks, hit and run.
