He is not forcing anybody to westernize. Its their own choice. People should be more tolerent, its as simple as that.
You are right. Unlike Zia, Musharraf (or his government) is not forcing anyone to change or follow any ideology or way of life. What he is doing is that he is trying to stop others who have made themselves self-appointed guardian of Islam to force their beliefs or way of life on others. Only those that want to change others in Pakistan by force are getting affected by Musharraf government, and peaceful citizens are becoming victim of their resistance to this change in government policy of tolerating them and letting them do their Shaitanic dance.
As for Zia, he forced way of life and ideology (his own personal beliefs, his likes and dislikes) on Pakistanis not by only patronizing but by making laws to do that. (Bhutto did same in some other respect and that is one reason many do not like him). Zia ideology enforced on Pakistan brought intolerance, force in religious matters, and wrong type of religious zombies in Pakistan.
*Some think that what Zia brought was not wrong but many think that it was wrong (and unislamic). Implementing something by force is Shaitanic ways, as force can change hands from one group of people to another. *
Example: If A drinks and B being stronger than A, forces A not to drink, than what B is doing is making A to stop drinking not for Allah but for his own satisfaction. On the other hand, B cannot guarantee that he would be stronger forever, and thus when A would become stronger, he would force B to drink with justification. It means, whoever is strong make others do what that stronger entity likes. [This use of force is nothing Islamic, but is Shaitanic deed]
[As for Islam: A Muslim convinces others to do justice, be tolerant and follow Islam even when others have all opportunities to do injustice, be intolerant (because they have power) and do not follow Islam. In this way, whatever someone follows, they follow with convictions and if they do any good, they do that for Allah alone, not for Shaitan].
NS and BB ideology was to loot and plunder, thus they just kept the trend that Zia started in Pakistan while kept themselves busy in looting and plundering. Throughout the rule of NS and BB, slow level of terrorism was going on through out Pakistan, and these retarded Zombies kept becoming stronger (probably at lower government level, there was patronage to these terrorist too).
Musharraf is just trying to change official patronage towards any particular ideology and fighting those that spread intolerance and terrorism in Pakistan. Those that are affiliated with such terrorist zombies are fighting against Musharraf policy of stopping government patronage, as they want to keep continuing their old ways of intolerance, sectarian violence, and forcing others to follow what they like.
Corrupts and those affiliated to past corrupt political parties, or some with whatever political reasons, are tying to score political points over this turmoil that is getting created because of suppressing terrorism and intolerance in Pakistan.
If Musharraf kept quite in this matter as NS and BB did, we would have seen less turmoil at present but more turmoil latter when these retarded zombies would have spread all over Pakistan and would have started taking active step to change Pakistani setup by force, making Pakistan second Afghanistan.
I believe that dormant seed of intolerance was there in Pakistan society since ages. Bhutto started making the ground soft for seed to sprout. Zia put plenty of fertilizer and gave lot of water to make the seed grow and become a small tree (of sectarianism, intolerance, spreading of ideology by force and official patronization of such tree). BB and NS let this tree keep growing unchecked and in their 11 years the tree became a huge tree (though NS in 1997 did try to check this tree by introducing anti-terrorist court).
Now Musharraf is trying to cut this tree and make Pakistan free from this tree of sectarianism, intolerance, spreading of ideology by force and official patronization of such tree).
I have written before too. This war against terrorism was started by NS in 1997 when Laghari on 18th August 1977 promulgated anti-terrorist Act and Pakistan established ‘special courts’ to deal with such terrorism. Anti-terrorist act was further modified by NS, when Tarar on 29th April 1999 promulgated another ordinance making the act more severe and changing the name of those ‘special courts’ to ‘Anti-terrorist courts’. Thus anti-terrorist act of 1977 (promulgated by NS government) was changed to Anti-terrorist ordinance 1999 (promulgated by NS government).
*This war that Musharraf inherited in Oct 1999, Musharraf continued with vigour, but later in Sept 2001 USA took UN Security council approval, made this war worldwide and joined Pakistan. *
