Reported dressing-room spat with Mohammad Asif
Shoaib to be sent home after incident

Shoaib Akhtar’s troubled career has taken yet another twist following a decision by the Pakistan board to send him back from Pakistan’s 15-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 after a dressing-room scuffle in which he was alleged to have hit fellow fast bowler Mohammad Asif with a bat.
Nasim Ashraf, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), told Cricinfo the tour management committee had conducted an inquiry into the incident and decided to send Shoaib home.
“The committee made us aware of the incident last night and conducted an immediate inquiry into the event,” Ashraf said. “They got their facts and decided Shoaib had to be sent back for allegedly hitting Mohammad Asif with a bat. The board was informed of the decision and we have approved it.”
Further action against Shoaib has not been ruled out once he returns. The bowler was already on six weeks’ probation following a breach of discipline last month after he left a training camp in Karachi without informing officials. Two hearings were held, after which it was decided that a monetary fine would be suspended pending his behaviour. Ashraf indicated that action would be likely.
“When the team management returns [from the tournament], the board will launch a full investigation and disciplinary hearing into the matter. Further action based on that is likely,” Ashraf said.
The sorry development means that Pakistan finds itself in the spotlight at a major international tournament once again for all the wrong reasons. Shoaib and Asif were sent back on the eve of their opening match at the ICC Champions Trophy last year, after they had tested positive for banned anabolic steroids. During the World Cup in March, Pakistan’s disastrous performance took backstage to the death of Bob Woolmer.
The decision will be a blow to the team’s chances at the tournament, as Pakistan’s strength was widely considered to lie in a pace attack that included Umar Gul and Rao Iftikhar Anjum. No decision has been taken yet on a replacement though initial reports suggest Mohammad Sami may be called up. In any case, a replacement will also depend on approval from the ICC’s technical committee.
“It is a very sad situation and is a blow not only to the team, but also to the image of the nation,” Ashraf admitted.
Though it is too early to say just yet, Shoaib’s future must look extremely bleak after this latest incident. He has played one day’s Test cricket and only a handful of ODIs since January 2006, missing out through a combination of injuries and the doping scandal. This is merely the latest in a long line of controversies to have dogged his career.

Re: Breaking News: Asif Injured in dressing room spat
Another sorry state of affairs for Pakistan cricket. I guess PCB had no choice except this. You cannot let a player get away with an act like this no matter how big or important the player is. Akhtar is no different. Even though im sure we all would have loved to see him bowl in the 20/20 WC...sadly its not gonna happen :( Idiot!!

I think Pakistani Cricket Players need a pay cut
Only then will they come back to earth

Shoaib sent home after Asif row
Pakistan paceman Shoaib Akhtar has been sent home from the World Twenty 20 after a bust-up with Mohammad Asif. Shoaib, who was already on probation for a disciplinary breach last month, confronted team-mate Asif during practice in Johannesburg on Thursday.
Shoaib admitted to hitting Asif with a bat, causing bruising to his left thigh and prompting a team investigation.
“A decision has been taken to call back Shoaib after an initial inquiry,” said Pakistan chief executive Shafqat Nagmi.
"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) fully endorses this decision. Shoaib Akhtar will be returning on the first available flight.
“No one will be spared if he flouts the rules and team spirit. What has happened is something that has shocked us.”
Naghmi added that a detailed inquiry into the “unfortunate incident” would be held when the player returned to Pakistan.
Shoaib’s actions have been condemned by a number of former Pakistan stars.
“Senior players have a responsibility in the team and what Shoaib did was sad,” Aamir Sohail commented.
“Anyone behaving like this should not be in the team. His act has brought shame to the team and the nation,” said former fast bowler Waqar Younis
Rameez Raja, now a cricket commentator, said both players were “the temperamental type”.
But he added: "This behaviour is not acceptable. I don’t see him playing in the immediate future for Pakistan.
“I don’t think he will get much support from the fans as well - people seem to be tired of his tantrums.”
National Aacdemy coach Aaqib Javed said Shoaib should never be picked for Pakistan again.
“There must be a life ban imposed on him because this is anincident that has embarrassed all of us and is a black mark for our cricket community,” he commented.
The incident occurred just five days before Pakistan play their opening World Twenty20 fixture against Scotland.
Media manager Dr Ehsan Malik insisted Asif would be fit to start that game, saying: “Asif has a bruise on his left thigh but he has had X-rays and has been cleared. He is fine as far as I know.”
But Shoaib’s future as an international cricketer could now be in doubt.
The 32-year-old was looking to relaunch his career after 16 months in which he has played just one Test and four one-dayers, mainly due to fitness problems.
He has been dogged by controversy for much of his career, and was banned for two years after failing a drugs test last October before having the suspension lifted on appeal.
Asif was also handed a reprieve after receiving a one-year ban for a similar offence.
Last month he was fined for leaving a training camp in Karachi without asking permission, though the penalty was suspended for two months and the bowler placed on a six-week probationary period, again on appeal.
Shoaib also courted controversy on Thursday when he hit out at cricket’s administrators, claiming rule changes and pitch conditions in the modern game favour batsmen over fast bowlers.
“Cricket should be about fast bowlers, not batsmen,” he said. "Spectators like to see fast bowlers running in, hurting people, and pitches that make batsmen struggle for runs.
“But now we play on good batting tracks all the time, they’ve made laws about bouncers and free hits for a no-ball.”
Re: Breaking News: Asif Injured in dressing room spat
I am at loss of words. I met Shoaib Akhtar a few days back and talked to him for ten minutes or so. He seemed like a person who is now beginning to be a mellow person. ugh!
I am sure Asif was no angel in this whole case but I guess PCB couldnt afford to rule both out. However, the bat went against Shoaib.
Re: Breaking News: Asif Injured in dressing room spat
Shoaib is a simpleton! Foolish but horny!
Re: Breaking News: Asif Injured in dressing room spat
Shoaib is more famous for his off-field antics than his on-field ones.every now and than i keep on listening about his antics.like drg scandal, problem with former coach woolmer, then with many players in teams and former captain Inzy.
Why is it that PCB is unable to take stern action against him?
Is he the blue-eyed boy of PCB,that they bear all his tantrums.
OR is it like his father uncle or any other relative heads PCB.
sometime back i heard that he got Pak president Mushraff to intervene on his behalf in his fight against PCB.IS he some how related to top Pakistani politicians in Pak,that PcB is afraid to take strong action against him.

Fast bowler says he’s apologised, vows quick comeback
‘I’m human, I made a mistake’ - Shoaib
Shoaib Akthar said he made a mistake 'in the heat of the moment" when he hit Mohammad Asif and has apologised to him and his Pakistan teammates for the dressing-room scuffle that saw him being sent home from South Africa. He vowed to make a comeback and said he was hopeful of playing in next month’s home series against South Africa.
“I’m human and made a mistake in the heat of the moment,” Shoaib told NDTV, an Indian news channel. “Asif said something to me that made me lose my temper. I apologised to him, but I was very upset.”
He asked the media not to paint him as a villain and said, “I’m feeling bad that two minutes of temper have ruined my comeback. Sometime you do things in a fit of temper. I will explain the situation to everyone and apologise. I will address a press conference and apologise for my actions. I will try and make it back for the series against South Africa next month.”
He likened the incident to the headbutt by the French footballer, Zinedine Zidane, in the final of the World Cup in Germany last year and said what happened was not intentional.

Asif’s thigh, Shoaib’s end?](http://blogs.cricinfo.com/pakspin/archives/2007/09/asifs_thigh_shoaibs_end.php) - Kamran Abbasi
**Shoaib Akhtar hit Mohammad Asif in the thigh but he shot himself in the foot. There can be no excuse for striking anybody let alone with a cricket bat. That you would attack a colleague under the glare of the international media is an extreme misjudgment, the behaviour of an individual who is incapable of self-control, unwilling to accept the bounds of common decency, and delusional about his own importance.
**
One reason why Shoaib continues to transgress, of course, is that he keeps getting away with it. He has rescued his career repeatedly. Hyperextension, unprofessional behaviour, dismal fitness, and performance enhancing drugs have failed to halt him. Whenever he returns it is with a surprising arrogance, blind to any of his weaknesses and the blame placed on others.
Shoaib has always mustered support. His extreme speed and attacking approach is an exhilarating spectacle. **Like many others I have believed his madness could be harnessed into a valuable role for Pakistan cricket. But perhaps I and many others must now accept that we got it wrong. Shoaib has become uncontrollable and there is no success in sport without discipline, not even for wild men.
**
Shoaib will grovel, apologise, make some feeble excuses for his behaviour–and there may have been some diabolical provocation–but nothing predicts behaviour like behaviour, and when it comes to Shoaib we all must have run out of patience at the ongoing damage to Pakistan cricket.
Re: Breaking News: Asif Injured in dressing room spat
And people still dare to defend him.

Oh really??? damn, hey everybody it was a mistake, lets forgive him.
Re: Breaking News: Asif Injured in dressing room spat
Well it is about time that PCB should look into future without shoaib as he is nearing his end as well 31 years of age and still living in self made illuisioin that he can get away with anything. Pakistan cricket need discipline more then anything else for team not a permanent trouble maker and someone who bring cricket and country in disrepute. I am sorry but he has not respect for anyone not even for himself.
Re: Breaking News: Asif Injured in dressing room spat
I don't think this guy deserve to play for a national team, he is only good for ICL. Even if he is good with a ball I would not select him. He is one messed up guy. People are talking about Asif that he is no angel but what ever the reason it was all verbal Shoaid should have avoided using a bat. He could have compalined to PCB but he thinks he is freakin "jaga" and he can do what ever he wants. People were complaining about national pride when Yousuf signed for ICL. Where the hell is national pride now? I think this is even worst than joining ICL.

Lets make a mistake to get rid of Shoaib for ever. This is a good chance.
Re: Breaking News: Asif Injured in dressing room spat
