LAHORE: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) president and party leader Javed Hashmi late on Tuesday reached his hometown of Multan and said he would address media representatives in relation to the ‘Azadi’ march on Wednesday evening.
Hashmi had told reporters upon reaching his Multan residence that he was in the party and would remain a part of it.
“Whenever there is a difficult situation, I come to my constituency to sort it out with consensus,” said Hashmi on his arrival in Multan at a time when his party is close to launching its long march on the federal capital.
Responding to a question, Hashmi said no differences prevailed between him and other party members, adding that he was a democrat through and through and had endured seven years in a prison cell for the sake of democracy.
The PTI leader also reportedly fears the imposition of martial law in the country and has said that he would do everything in his power to stop one.
“It (imposition of martial law) would have to be over my dead body,” Hashmi told reporters.
Senior PTI leaders Shireen Mazari and Aijaz Chaudhry have dismissed rumours of differences emerging within party ranks.
**Chaudhry said Hashmi was a senior party leader and any rumours relating to differences were 100 per cent incorrect.

The developments come hours after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s address to the nation last night in which he called for formation a judicial commission to investigate allegations of rigging in the 2013 general elections.
The prime minister’s speech was met with a tepid response from PTI chief Imran Khan who in his press conference spurned Nawaz’s overture and asserted that no probe was acceptable without the premier’s resignation.

****LAHORE / ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman’s year-long accusations against the government for rigging last year’s elections gained momentum this month, with Imran Khan calling for an ‘Azadi’ march on August 14 from Lahore to Islamabad.
On the other hand, Canada-based cleric Dr Tahirul Qadri returned to the country in June this year, promising to bring revolution against the Pakistan Muslim League government.
Political temperatures have risen drastically over the last few weeks, with the government urging the PTI to call off its protest rally and other political forces attempting to broker an understanding between the two.
On its part, the government also implemented Article 245 — thereby calling in the Pakistan Army for its support in securing Islamabad, where as Section 144 was also declared in the capital.
However, the PTI and PAT have remained adamant that the march will happen.
