Re: Breakfast dawat anyone???
Yes we had one at our place...
Its usually brunch.
Anyway we had halwa, puri, channay, aloo, parathay, dahi. then we had toast, jam, butter, milk, cereal. Since we had families with kids... And depends what ur guests like.
Re: Breakfast dawat anyone???
I had one at home today, for my inlaws, my sis in laws's inlaws were in town, so I got double inlaws dose :)
I find nashta to be the best time to entertain because then you have time to clean up and relax during the day..
I made potatos latkas, spanish omlette, qeema, and homemade bread. Pancakes for desert and kids, my SIL insisted tha she will bring something so she brought halwa, chane, pooris. So we had really good nashta ended with chai...
I have done puratha nashta too, made paneer, qeema, vegetable, aalo, etc wale purathes...
Re: Breakfast dawat anyone???

Re: Breakfast dawat anyone???
Oh my I've never been invited to a breakfast dawat. Sounds fun when you actually have breakfast which i don't but still everything sounds yummy!!
What is the time one has to give for such dawats?
Re: Breakfast dawat anyone???
Hadeel, Breakfast dawats are mostly done on weekends, normally takes an hour or two of prep before the dawat … and you should be easily done with the guests by midday ![]()
Re: Breakfast dawat anyone???
Just an hour or two for so many things? 0_0
Isn't that like impossible? Too much to make in too little time, keeping in mind that everything needs to be fresh and warm!!
The timing sounds perfect though, one can rest in the remaining part of the day.
Re: Breakfast dawat anyone???
Yup hadeel, The best bit about the nashta dawats is that most of the stuff wont need cooking !
The ones that do, like for example, halwa poori, haleem etc will not take more then an hour to prepare … andaa’s take just about 15 -20 minutes to prepare ..
The biggest and the only challenge is to keep every thing crispy and warm
… I distinctly remember running around like a headless chicken try to keep hot things hot and crispy and cool things cool :hinna:
Re: Breakfast dawat anyone???
Hmmm. I didn't know Haleem could be prepared in just an hour!?? :S
We once made Halwa poori's at home for a dawat, the poori's took good one and a half hour .. but we had like 40 people over!
Yeah the cold and warm challenge is difficult to handle otherwise all your mehnat goes to waste =(
Re: Breakfast dawat anyone???
When we were new in this city where there are limited number of desi folks whenever we wanted to have party at our home for dinner people would have already been invited somewhere else so we hosted a few nashta/brunch parities and that gave us inroads into the community.
