boycotting these beauty brands

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

Bella Behn ji, schools are suffering but education is still provided for free and kids are still going to school. Palestine k kitnay bachay school jaatay hain? Wahan k bachay parh nahi rahay, woh mar rahay hain. How does our healthcare situation compare to theirs? I understand the importance of focusing on issues on our home-front as well, but they are faring far worse. So, what do you suggest Bella? A strike or protest? And how effective do you truly think that will that be? And you're usually so against the persecution of all peoples and hopefully that includes the Palestinians as well. Your sympathy for the issues (poor education/healthcare, etc) that Americans are facing is commendable, but surely you've concern for the Palestinians as they've been stripped far worse than we have.

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

did you not understand my post?? im not comparing our situation to gaza, i simply stated how US can spend billions on Israel but not on things that we need here. and for one millionth time, im all for boycotting israeli products.

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

good job.

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

Who are we, the inhabitants and citizens of the US, compared to the mighty, Uncle Sam? Did you not see that I asked you (despite your complaint about the Us govnt and its people's passivity) what you feel we should do? How effective do you think a protest would be? I don't think it would make a dent's worth of a difference.

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

are you just trying to argue with me for the sake of it and purposely twisting my posts around so you can then argue more?? I don't understand why you are always trying to do this, you really need to calm down and actually read what others post before jumping on them. I simply mentioned that no matter what, israel will get the money it needs. thats all. i never mentioned that you shouldn't boycott.

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

Exactly. So your question as to why people in the US aren't doing anything about their tax dollars funding Israel....would accomplish little to nothing...as you have now admitted yourself that no matter what Israel will get it's money. So to think that "why don't tax payers show the SAME rebellion for Israel that they show for illegal immigrants"....is pointless when you have admitted that nothing will come out of it.

No, I'm not twisting your words, Bella behn. I'm trying to make sense of the purpose of your post. See, if let's say....and this is just a guess of mine which could be wrong....you were thinking to yourself in an annoyed way "Gosh, is boycotting products the only thing Muslims can do. I mean, as tax payers, how come they don't go out in the street and protest as people did when their tax dollars were used to support illegal immigrants? Why don't we see that same kind of fire or passion from people about their money being used to support violence toward kids?".....what's the purpose of the annoyance (assuming it was annoyance) when even you know it will most likely not produce a positive difference.

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

If I’m not mistaken, @bella88 was referring to the tax issue SEPARATELY and INDEPENDENTLY of boycotting Israeli goods, rather as an aside. (Perhaps that topic deserves its own separate thread General? :hmmm:)

Regarding boycotting goods that have ties to Israeli holdings, I don’t think it is an all or nothing matter. While people may not be able to avoid paying taxes, they can definitely control what they purchase. As far as NARS and other brands, if one feels strongly about a cause/issue and feels that certain brands support causes that contradict one’s principles, one is quite free to boycott those as well. No one is stopping anyone from doing so.

boycotting these beauty brands

According to the Buycott app, the following cosmetic brands are conflict free (meaning they have no ties to Israeli holdings):

Dior
NARS
Urban Decay
Stila
Benefit

The above products I had barcodes for on hand. I will keep updating as I find out about more.

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

yes, im wondering why are Americans not bothered by our taxes funding Israel. Americans do care where the taxes go, they go on streets and demand all the illegal unaccompanied children be returned to their countries because we cannot afford to keep them here. they returned the bus load of undocumented children because of the protestors. if americans start protesting on this, there might be enough pressure on the govt to stop giving away our money to Israel. i just mentioned one thing, i didn't say you should or shouldn't boycott. maybe my post was a bit offtopic for this thread. but there was no need for to twist it in a completely different way

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

I'm not twisting your words. I even commended you for your concern, so calm down. When those in power uphold a belief system (can it even be called a religion?) that supports Israel at any cost ...then I am doubtful about the efficacy of a protest. The issue of the illegal immigrants didn't challenge a belief system, Bella, so maybe that's why it had a better chance.

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

I never bought MAC because I always knew about it. can someone tell me about olay and loreal?

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

[note]As much as I'm enjoying reading the different views, please keep in mind that this is the Fashion & Beauty Forum. Its fine if anyone wants to post brands supporting Israel or what not. But if you ladies want to have full-blown discussion on the merits of boycotts, government spending our tax dollars etc………GS has plenty of other forums for it.

Thank you. :D[/note]

Olay and Loreal are on the boycott list

Olay is a Proctor & Gamble product. P&G has a major research facility in Israel P&G has also signed on bilateral agreement with Israeli Chief Scientist providing Israeli start ups that collaborate with P&G favorable access to governmental funding.

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

I returned a Tom Ford perfume today that I was going to get as a gift for myself for Eid. Got the Tocca Cleopatra instead. I've been boycotting Estee Lauder and its sister companies since the last intfiada.

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

to not purposely and intentionally give money to killing mankind? boycotting shows resistance, a dip in sales and hits big corps hard. passivity on the other hand, has no point.

also, there are other alternatives to beautify oneself without getting products that have a negative impact on humanity (barring evironment)

Re: boycotting these beauty brands

The list of brands to avoid keeps getting longer! Maybe we could could start compiling a list of things that we don't need to boycott instead? How about dupes of items as alternatives?
