was just wondering if any1 would like to have a say in mentioning the names of Pakistani cricketers for whom stadiums fill up. who are the cricketers that please the crowd and are enjoyable to watch? my knowledge is very limited in the history of cricket so i can only mention recent names like:-
imran khan
wasim akram
waqar younis
shahid afridi
main khan
shoaib akhtar
abdul razzaq
imran nazir!??
some of these players might not be the greatest players, but i enjoy watching them
And that makes him a crowd entertainer? A block buster hit? Come on, what is your age dude?
Players like him are dime a dozen in Pakistan. Don’t mix him with greats like Imran, Wasim and Miandad. People used to come to see their game, unlike Nazir.
Shahid Afridi would be one offcoarse along with Imran Khan, Javed Miandad and Saeed Anwar. Also the man everyone loves to hate... Shoaib Akhter would fit in the category too.
well… that’s a 20/20 match and it requires big-hits… his record in ODIs is does not offer a lot of big feats to warrant him being listed in the all-time box office greats. Over the past couple of years, he has only been a fringe player for Pakistan in ODIs/Tests.
Thats one thing I would agree with you on. He certainly is a crowd puller but half of his fame is his self created with controversial statements that he spits out every now and then. Wasim Akram has very interesting things to share with us. Go check today’s Jang news.
Looks like there can be no cricket thread without having St. Akhtar’s name in it. OK thats some achievement he can be proud of :elmo:
Afridi’s record in ODI’s is pretty much the same as Nazir, or probably worst, but look at him. Imran Nazir was given a run in 2002 and played some valuable match winning innings, then he was dropped after one bad series.
Then again he was brought back in the Natwest Challenge against England, and again was dropped after playing one bad inning. And again he was brought back into the side in the Asia Cup and dropped once again after couple games.
He is pretty much following the same path as Afridi, there isn’t a difference between them.
There is no doubt Imran Nazir is an extremly explosive batsmen...but he has the same problem as many other Pakistani openers...Consistancy. But there is no doubt...Imran is probably the most talented opener in domestic cricket right now but he will only suceed if he works on his game and get rid of his weaknesses. His 50 of 35 balls against NZ was a treat to watch. This is the same game where Afridi scored 108 not out. Afridi was on 4 from 21 balls when Nazir reached his 50...and his cover drives are a treat to watch. I hope one day he'll be able to make it to the ODI squad...a very explosive and talented player.
The difference is that Afridi is a bowling allrounder while Imran Nazir is a “specialist batsman” and its a shame that his average is worse than Afridi.
I was getting sick of Imran Nazir getting out by pulling balls that were pitched too far up. Until he gets some patience, he shouldn't be seen anywhere near the team.
